Green Day headlined this year’s Coachella and performed a set that was all punk and extremely rock. The band may not have performed its best set at this year’s legendary music festival, but its political messaging seems to take precedence over the quality of the performance. Frontman Billy Joe Armstrong did not shy away from getting topical and picking sides.

While performing their hit rock song American Idiot, Green Day changed the lyrics to reflect the current political climate of the world and the USA. Apart from talking about the war in Gaza and the affected Palestinians, Armstrong also changed a key lyric to also reflect his opinion on the current President Donald Trump and his policies.

After nearly 40 years, Green Day is still using their music as a megaphone to protest the world’s injustices.

While headlining Saturday at Coachella, the punk band used their 2004 single ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ to call attention to the suffering of Palestinian children amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

“Runnin’ away from pain, like the kids from Palestine / Tales from another broken home,” sang frontman Billie Joe Armstrong in the lyric that was originally, “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized.”

Last month, he altered the same track, singing, “Am I retarded, or am I just J.D. Vance?” Instead of the vice president’s name, the original lyric asks “am I just overjoyed?”

The American Idiot artists are not new to making a statement with their music, using the title track from their 2004 album to call out Donald Trump during a 2023 New Year’s Eve broadcast.

While kicking off the Australian leg of their “Saviors Tour” over the weekend, Green Day took their latest swipe at the Trump administration by altering the lyrics of “Jesus of Suburbia” to mock Vice President Jd Vance.

While performing at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Saturday, March 1st, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong switched the lyrics from “Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?” to “Am I retarded or am I just Jd Vance?” Watch a fan-shot video below.

The lyric change came shortly after Armstrong once again asserted he’s “not a part of the Maga agenda” while singing “American Idiot.” He also gave a brief speech saying, “Don’t you want Elon Musk to shut the fuck up? Don’t you want Donald Trump to shut the fuck up?”

Green Day’s concert at Comerica Park in Detroit on Wednesday was briefly interrupted when the band was rushed off stage after a drone was spotted flying overhead.

Detroit police Cpl. Dan Donakowski told the Detroit News that the individual who flew the drone was located and detained.

Green Day was able to resume the concert after a 10-minute delay. In a social media post following the end of concert, the band said, “Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. ABC announces the Hollywood lineup for ‘New Year’s Rockin Eve 2024’

Bebe Rexha, Green Day, Janelle Monáe, and Ellie Goulding will perform on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024. The Hollywood lineup also includes Aqua, Doechii, Loud Luxury, Two Friends, Ludacris, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Paul Russell, Reneé Rapp, Coco Jones, and Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Emmy winner Jeannie Mai has been tapped to host the Hollywood portion of the broadcast, with Ryan Seacrest returning to host from New York for his 19th year. Rita Ora will join Seacrest live from Times Square. The broadcast kicks off on Sunday, December 31st at 8pm Et.

Last year, 13.8 million viewers tuned in to celebrate the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

Los Angeles, Aug 29 (Ians) Rock band Green Day have sold t-shirts emblazoned with former US President Donald Trump’s mug shot to raise relief funds for Maui wildfire victims.

They recreated their 1997 ‘Nimrod’ album cover, but replaced the pictures of Frederick Banting and Charles Best, who co-discovered insulin, with the former US president’s frowning face covered up with the title in a yellow circle, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Referencing their 1997 classic ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’, Billie Joe Armstrong and co captioned a picture of the design on Instagram, “Good Riddance. The ultimate Nimrod shirt is available for 72 hours only. Limited edition shirt proceeds will be donated to @greatergoodmusiccharity, which brings food to those affected by the Maui wildfires.”
