Hello Stranger review – interactive thriller puts remote worker in trial-by-internet
Paul Raschid
A lonely man is forced into a series of deadly games by a masked online sadist in this choose your own adventure – but bouts of paper-scissor-stones fail to engage

Interactive cinema cheerleader Paul Raschid’s last work The Gallery in 2022, cannily used the format to compare and contrast two fraught eras: Thatcher’s and post-Brexit Britain. So it’s a disappointment to see his latest outing, Hello Stranger, narrow its scope to a cheesy trial-by-internet that lacks the social commentary of Squid Game, from which it nabs its masked, filtered-voice tormentor.

Cam (George Blagden) is a shut-in working on assorted remote assignments from a hermetically sealed, computer-controlled London apartment. His main companion is Sasha, the digital assistant that runs his life (voiced by either Derek Jacobi or Yasmin Finney). Depending on whether you opt for being in a couple or single at the appropriate fork, hypothetical American girlfriend Mimi (Christina Wolfe...

Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Into the Deep clip previews a cage attack sequence in shark thriller
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Last year, we learned that, forty-nine years after playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (and fourteen years after making an appearance in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D), Richard Dreyfuss had been cast in another film that promises to be packed with aquatic thrills, Vigilante Diaries director Christian Sesma’s Into the Deep. The film received a digital, On Demand, and limited theatrical release last Friday, and will be getting a DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK on February 3rd. To promote these releases, a clip from the film has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above. Dreyfuss got attacked while in a cage in Jaws, and this clip shows Into the Deep‘s version of a cage attack.

Scripted by Chad Law and Josh Ridgway – who have previously collaborated on the alligator movie The Flood, the Dolph Lundgren action thriller Section 8 (which...

‘Agatha All Along’ Soundtrack: All The Songs You’ll Hear Along The Witches’ Road
Image
If you still haven’t heard the earworm that is the “Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” from Marvel’s Agatha All Along count yourself lucky, because it is catchy. There are even multiple versions of the song, an original masterpiece by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez with various lyrics, which are fun to decipher. For example, Lorna Wu’s version of the ballad contains different verses than the original one sung by Agatha’s ragtag coven. Japanese Breakfast even covered a new pop version of the ballad, produced by Jack Antonoff.

Florence + the Machine’s song “Seven Devils” was used in a teaser trailer for the show. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer even made a musical nod to Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene,” hinting that Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha was the inspiration for that song in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For all the needledrops in the witchy Marvel series — from...

All the Songs in ‘Agatha All Along’
Image
Spooky season has arrived early, and it flew in on the broomstick of Agatha Harkness. Ok fine, technically the Marvel witch doesn’t need a broom to fly, but “Agatha All Along” does bring the witchiest of witch vibes with its playlist.

Thanks to the cast’s performance at the D23 Expo this year, we knew that Marvel’s latest series would feature another new original song, in the form of “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road.” Unfortunately, we only hear the faint melody of it in the season premiere, as Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) unwittingly hums it in her car.

It comes in full in episode two, and on top of that, we already have a solid spooky season playlist building up in the episodes.

Here’s a rundown of all the songs in “Agatha All Along” (so far):

Episode 1 “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” by Kathryn Hahn...

Interactive horror-thriller film in the works from Five Dates creator Paul Rasch
Image
British filmmaker Paul Raschid is developing a new interactive film. Deadline reports Raschid's latest project, The Run, is an "interactive horror-thriller" that puts the fate of its protagonists into the viewer's hands. Ouch, poor them. If you watched Black Mirror's Bandersnatch or enjoy visual novels, you'll have an idea of what to expect.

Raschid is no stranger to this hybrid genre, having previously worked on interactive titles like the hostage-thriller The Gallery, the romantic comedy Five Dates, and its sequel, Ten Dates. Both rom-coms function like visual novels and are available on platforms like Steam, Apple's App Store, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

So, so, so proud I can finally announce this...

Into the Deep brings Jaws star Richard Dreyfuss back to the world of shark thrillers
Image
Forty-nine years after playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (and fourteen years after making an appearance in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D), Richard Dreyfuss has been cast in another film that promises to be packed with aquatic thrills, Vigilante Diaries director Christian Sesma’s Into the Deep. This one managed to get all the way into post-production before catching the attention of the folks at The Daily Jaws.

Scripted by Chad Law and Josh Ridgway – who have previously collaborated on the alligator movie The Flood, the Dolph Lundgren action thriller Section 8, the biker werewolf movie Howlers, and the mystery Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop – Into the Deep has the following synopsis: A group of divers searching for sunken treasure witness the murder of drug dealers by modern-day pirates, but a killer great white is determined not to let any of them escape its waters.

The Gallery review – bloody interactive treatise on post-Brexit Britain
Charlie Brooker
Viewers can choose the outcome of the characters in this cleverly assembled art-world thriller available on PC, console and your local screen

Interactive cinema has existed since the 1967 Czech film Kinoautomat, but remains niche, despite a brief flare-up of interest around Charlie Brooker’s choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch. British director Paul Raschid – ambitiously for a 30-year-old – specialises in tending these mind-boggling gardens of forking paths. His latest The Gallery is a trenchant and thoughtful post-Brexit treatise that can be played on PCs and consoles, but it’s also doing the rounds in cinemas, where the group experience – including voting by glowstick – could work something like a referendum on modern Britain, given the film’s state-of-the-nation bent.

The Gallery has two separate but symmetrical timelines in 1981 and 2021. Plus ça change: both spotlight a reeling and fractured Britain in which the Argyle Manor gallery, about to put on a portrait exhibition,...
