I stumbled upon the 2021 horror movie titled "Spider in the Attic" from writers Scott Jeffrey and Rhys Waterfield by sheer random chance. And I must admit that the movie's cover/poster actually seemed interesting and the movie's synopsis also sounded interesting. And being an avid horror fan and liking things with monstrously big spiders, of course I had to watch "Spider in the Attic".

Needless to say that I wasn't really harboring much of any hopes or expectations for "Spider in the Attic", given the fact that the majority of creature features out there with large spiders tend to be dubious movies at best. But still, I opted to watch this 2021 movie from director Scott Jeffrey.

First, I have to say that that the movie's cover is false advertisement, as the spiders in the movie look nothing like what is depicted here. So that was a massive disappointment. And truth be told, then the movie's cover/poster was sadly the best part about this entire movie.

The storyline told in "Spider in the Attic" was simplistic, but it was adequate in its own rights. So you are not in for a grand horror cinema experience from writers Scott Jeffrey and Rhys Waterfield. However, the characters were bland and the written dialogue was questionable.

"Spider in the Attic" has spiders, well spider-like creatures. First, as I mentioned above, they look nothing like what is shown on the cover. And the spiders in the movie were CGI animated, of course, but poorly CGI animated, I might have to add. The spider design looks extraterrestrial in appearance, which was what the storyline also hinted at, but you can't put one type of arachnid on the cover and present something else to the audience entirely.

The movie had a cast ensemble of actresses and actors all unknown to me. And that is usually something I enjoy in movies, but the performances of the ones in "Spider in the Attic" were just bland and lacking drive and energy. But of course, with the subpar script, lousy characters and dialogue, of course the actresses and actors had little to work with.

Director Scott Jeffrey delivered a disappointing movie with "Spider in the Attic", no doubt about that. And this is not a creature feature that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. Especially since the movie's cover/poster was the best thing about the ordeal, and that spider is not even in the movie.

My rating of "Spider in the Attic" lands on a three out of ten stars.

I suffer from arachnophobia and this movie gave the the willies a bit. Mostly the HUGE cobwebs that none of the actors seem to notice. LOL The FX weren't great and I don't know if that was a spider or a scorpion or a bat???

The story could have been interesting, but the writing was dull filled with STUPID character actions and the acting was horrific and the ending was beyond lame. Maybe you fans of BAD Schlocky horror will enjoy watching and laughing at this movie. But if your a serious horror fan, then just PASS on this, cause it really has no BITE! :(

Horrible cgi, horrible acting, horrible everything.

Don't do it, avoid at all costs.

Go for a walk, resort your underwear drawer, just do anything but watch this horrible, awful and incredibly boring film.

I only write reviews when absolutely compelled. My sorrow goes out to the actors because they all showed potential and were likeable/dis-likeable based on their roles. I would have given them more points but someone needed to smack the directors and scream "Seriously, Come on, please let me act, give me a real line." Unfortunately, they were directed to say the dumbest/worst lines possible throughout the movie and were not allowed to act out the scenes with any realism. Example: Lots of men and women lose their minds/wits when they see just one tiny spider. Here are half a dozen women who barely react when they see creatures which resemble giant spiders with tails and teeth. If you decide to watch, it will be painful as you will see the actors make the exact opposite decision even the most idiotic person would have handled better in every possible scenario. We are all used to seeing the one or two actors in the script required to die for a good scare or because they are the villains; however, when all of the actors repeatedly make dumb decisions, over and over, from beginning to end, it makes you realize it's not the actors fault. There was one rediculous sequencing error where one of the lead actors saw a spider the size of a 40lb dog and then never mentioned to the other actors, instead she went on as if the only spider in the house was the one in a glass aquarium which was 25% the size. One of the worst directed movies I've seen, lots of wasted potential even with the limited CGI.

I'll admit, I was scared s#%^*less in the first scene because the thought of looking at a spider of film terrified me. Once I worked up the courage and actually looked up, seeing the terrible SG spiders calmed my nerves. Bad acting and bad plot also helped ruin it. Gave it a two for the initial shock. There are better things to watch.

You know a movie like this is gonna fail when the FX are terrible.

Even all those hot girls could not save this awful movie sadly bad at everything acting script story etc.

I only created this account so I can say. WHAT THE HELL KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT!!!! The whole moved was hyped to the big guy at the end. Then Bam, It ends!!

A spider is creepy because it's creepy. The makers did not realize that a spider is a winning team already. They have tried to make the spiders more creepy. As a result the spiders became laughable. Haha.

The actors are doing their best with what they got, and the script throw in some real world problems to make us like the characters.

However, they have no idea on how to write characters in crisis, and that make everyone behave like.

We have a situation where we have a big deadly animal in a house we are in - what to do next ?

Well, they make all stupid choices from there on and with that all sympathy for the characters goes out the window.

Then we have the CGI. Someone saw that and thought it was ok ?

We are talking 2001 PS2 CGI here.

I however liked the ending.

I would really like a sequel with bigger budget taking off from there...

Forced to enhance her ratings, the host of a failing true crime show decides to bump her fortunes by investigating a local story about a doctor supposedly manipulating genes at a remote house in the area, but when they find the house overrun by massive mutated spiders they have to get away alive.

This was a fairly solid and enjoyable effort. One of the finer features of this one is the rather strong setup that lets everything come together in a rather intriguing manner. The motivation to reach out about the story by trying to modernize her show that's besieged by the failing ratings spiel to try to throw caution to the wind and force her way into the house to tease out the truth about the rumors surrounding the area is handled well enough throughout here. This provides the impetus to believe why she would be so inclined to ignore so many obvious signs about the house's condition or arrive at the house with such a flimsy story about the need to be there as the desire to figure out the true story behind his disappearance and eventual death as her single-minded nature to get her show where it should be is well-handled throughout here. On top of this fine starting point, the action within the house is usually rather fun for the most part. With the first half here of the group wandering through the empty house arguing about the ethics of everything but generally ignoring the atmosphere of what's around them including the insert shots of the spiders going through rooms or the team being blissfully unaware of the massive cobwebs left behind, there's a far creepier and more atmospheric touch than expected in this part of the film. That goes along quite nicely with the second half where it goes into a far more obvious territory with the group struggling to escape from the house crawling with the now-ravenous spiders. This picks up the action and suspense quite a bit from the static and laid-back first half where it's all about the group trying to keep themselves alive while delivering the baby since the pregnant daughter is going into labor but must still fend off the main spider scurrying through the house trying to get at them. It's cheesy enough and goes along nicely with the goofy effects present to give the film a lot to like although there are some drawbacks to be had with this one. The biggest issue, which does come off incredibly prominently here, is the otherworldly stupidity displayed by the group as things go along. The whole excuse about not wanting to throw away a potential gold-mine discovery for her show is no excuse for the rest of the group to remain in the house where they knowingly find massive killer spiders running around, and even after catching one are completely unbothered to try contacting the authorities or even leaving. That they have a pregnant woman on the verge of going into labor when they arrive is a plot point that's going to be paid off as obviously as it should be, and that doesn't generate any kind of impact on the utterly useless Army brat daughter who's skill-set is completely ignored in favor of utterly stupid actions substituted for bravery. This holds it down incredibly well, much like the outrageously terrible CGI that looks patently fake but still holds the usual charm of these types of films so it's not nearly as detrimental as it should but still has some impact.

I admit I do suffer from arachnophobia and always get a chill whenever creepy crawlies are the main feature in a film. I got totally freaked out when I went and saw "Arachnophobia" at the theater back in 1990. That cunning and sly spider featured in that film totally horrified me. I didn't feel anything here though. I mean, how scary are spiders that are clearly CGI?! The stupidity of the characters also play a role.

A group of ladies, with one of them on the edge of pregnancy along with her boyfriend, go investigate a large remote manor in the British countryside. They want to launch an exploitation news report to gather ratings and find the juice they're looking for, but put their own lives in peril in the process. There are spiderwebs all over the place in that large manor and the discovery that a large mutant spider is on the loose on the premises. Did that stop them? No, of course not. They prowl around and look under beds and cautiously open doors to other rooms to find the beast(s).

The thought never occurred to them to leave that manor, but no, they stay put and then chaos erupts. The pregnant woman, of course, goes into labor during the tense moments and, of course, has an encounter with one of the evil arachnids. It's an anguishing and terrifying ordeal for them all with the spiders never seeming to attack. I guess it's because they're all CGI and harmless.

This is a lame horror movie with barely any action. The spiders aren't menacing at all and don't leap and bite like in other films. They're just spotted while the characters wither in terror and then run to escape them. They might as well have put put cartoon spiders drawn by elementary school students into the film instead. That would've had a better impact.

As i have said before, when the writer is the Director, dont expect much and thats what we have here. There needs to be a "common sence person" position in film making. Yup, a person whos responcibility is to call out the garbage as it happens so it can be corrected, thus avoiding a cluster fk like we have here.

An aging woman needs to dial things up as her tv show is losing ratings. She decides on a road trip to interview a Doctor doing experiments on Animals. Ok, doesnt contact the guy in advance, shows up without a film crew? Serious rookie writer? Oh this is going to be a great tv show! Ok, dude is dead. Spiders all over, they decide to stay for awhile?

Ok, a fresh decent idea for a movie. Bad script leaves actors on their own. More or less unknown cast, other then Chelsea Greenwood who i have seen before & who does a great job here, as usual. The movie does have cool set location and decent camera work. The lighting isnt too good and the sound is horribile. You cant watch this late night. I had my 5.1 100 watt per channel cranked just to try and understand the whispering by folks with extreme accents. Gather 6 Cajun people from the Louisiana Bayou mix the sound so everything is twice as load as the vocals, thats about what you have here. The sound folks killed this movie. Ok, CGI on par to maybe stuff being done in the early 90s? Yeah, a good 35 years behind. Made it look like an early Full Moon movie. Its just like landscaping. If you cant afford to do it right, then make other plans. The cheesey spiders put this in the sub B movie bracket.

The ending. As thought money ran out and the credits roll. Much like many Hammer films. At home we refer to this as a "Hammer ending". You endure 90 minutes, then in the last 2 minutes everything is resolved. Just like most films of the 1930s.

Is short, the Common Sence person would have been all over this. Maybe i need to start a business? Producers Ego Deflating LLC?

Its just amazing how folks can do this and really feel that its good. Unfortunately there are many people making movies that just arent very good at it.

ITN studios has a very limited stable of actors and actresses and in this boring piece of crap they deplete their line up of bad actresses to fill the almost all female storyline of this bomb!

The story line is an old one, but it basically is used as an excuse to delve into the science fiction aspect of the plot. Without the need for a revamped "True Crime" radio show the events leading up to the story would seemingly be left undiscovered indefinitely, perhaps it would have been better had this been the case.

The show host and her two radio station bosses were played by three very shopworn and talentless actresses, their roles are pretty uninspired and the three of them lived down to the challenge more than adequately!

The two daughter characters were played by two fairly decent actress, but their stereotypical role backgrounds lessen their part in the plot. One is a soldier come home to assist her mother and the other is a pregnant unwed mother in the process of breaking up with the child's seemingly immature father (although neither seems to be a teenager.) ITN production seems to be the British version of Sci-fi schlock of the caliber of the Sy Fy productions with crappy stories, rotten actors and very bad CGI special effects. Plus it all hinges on the long dead evil science of the Nazi mad scientists, as usual!!!

"Spider In The Attic" is the sort of film that makes you think, "Wow, this could've been so good." The premise? A scientist gene-splicing killer spiders at home - the kind of mad scientist scenario that screams late-night B-movie goodness. But somewhere along the way, the execution gets tangled in its own web. The story? A meandering mess of pseudo-science and missed potential, where the only thing scarier than the spiders is the lack of coherent plot. It's a slow, painful crawl through a quagmire of lazy writing, with characters that are as engaging as a bag of flour.

The director, bless him, tries valiantly to infuse some atmosphere, with shadowy scenes and an occasional CGI spider that looks decent but could've used a little more menace. Unfortunately, the sound design is so over-the-top that when one spider scuttles up a wall, you'd swear a herd of elephants was on the loose. There's no tension to be found, only a sense of utter tedium that even a toxic spider bite couldn't cure.

Performances are fine - familiar faces from the B-movie circuit, doing their best with what they've got. But no amount of solid acting could save this sluggish, arachnid-infested snooze fest. Skip it and go watch Arachnophobia again.
