At least my inclination was right: the “Mile End Kicks” filmmaker got what I was saying. “I’m going to cry,” Levack said in her first interview for the film. “That means the world to me. That really, really does.”

It’s only fitting that Levack’s film would stir big emotions in both its maker and its audience. Much like her debut, “I Like Movies,” “Mile End Kicks” is based on her own experiences.

Toronto International Film Festival announced the lineup for its Centerpiece program on Tuesday, spotlighting 55 total films from nearly 50 countries. “Blue Moon” from director Richard Linklater, a collaboration between the U.S. and Ireland, will have its North American premiere in the largely international section of the festival.

Of the 55 films screening in the Centerpiece program, 51 represent countries outside of the U.S. Some are collaborations with the U.S., while most are entirely international productions. Likewise, only six films are sole productions of Canada, with one co-production between Canada and Hungary.

18 of the films present in the section will have their world premieres at TIFF. These include “Good Boy,” starring Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough; Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner “Carolina Caroline,” from director Adam Carter Rehmeier, who previously made “Dinner in America” and “Snack Shack”; and “Wasteman,” the debut feature from Cal McMau starring David Jonsson from “Alien: Romulus” and “Industry.

Skydance Television president Matt Thunell is set to oversee Paramount Television Studios following the closing of the two companies’ $8 billion merger. Thunell will report to newly appointed Paramount Pictures co-chair and Paramount Television chair Dana Goldberg.

The Paramount Television Studios label, which is being revived after being shuttered in August 2024, will include Skydance Television and the previously merged Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

Following its shuttering, Ptvs series and development projects — such as Prime Video’s “Cross” and Apple TV+’s “Before” and “Murderbot” — transitioned to CBS Studios. It remains unclear where oversight of CBS Studios will fall in the new organizational structure.

Taylor Sheridan, whose deal with MTV Entertainment Studios runs through 2028, is expected to be based at Paramount TV Studios going forward. Showtime/MTV Entertainment scripted content head Keith Cox is expected to transition to the new label and continue working with Sheridan.

A spokesperson for Skydance declined to comment.

With Marvel and DC's superheroes quietly stepping away from this year's recent San Diego Comic-Con, other buzzy franchises like Predator stepped right up to own the spotlight. Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg was on hand at Sdcc following the success of Killer of Killers, now streaming on Hulu, to promote his next installment, Predator: Badlands. And boy, do fans seem thrilled about what's to come, especially since the acclaimed writer-director hinted at the possibility of a crossover movie between Alien and Predator down the line. Chances are it will more than surpass the 2004 attempt and the sequels that followed.

MovieWeb also had the chance to speak with Trachtenberg directly following the release of Killer of Killers to learn more about his latest work — including his older projects that helped pave the way for his groundbreaking Predator installments. That includes helming the pilot episode of The Boys, the Emmy-nominated series on FX whose final season is coming soon.

Game Science isn’t done just yet, and plans on releasing more content for the game, in the form of two standalone DLCs and a sequel.

Actor Tracy Spiridakos has booked her first major role since leaving Chicago P.D. last year. The actor played fan-favorite character Detective Hailey Upton across the One Chicago franchise for seven years.

According to Deadline, Spiridakos has been cast as the titular lead of the new USA Network series Anna Pigeon, based on the novel series of the same name by Nevada Barr. The forthcoming crime series will follow the titular former city slicker who becomes a park ranger after a devastating loss changed the trajectory of her life forever. While Anna tries to outrun her demons, her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, no matter who or what gets in her way.

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for years. However, the neurodegenerative disorder wasn’t the worst thing that happened to him, at least according to him.

For context, Osbourne got into a quad bike accident in 2003 at his Buckinghamshire estate, breaking his collarbone and six ribs. This happened when he was fifty-five years old. However, things got worse in 2019, when he fell on his face after using the bathroom in his LA home, as per People.

This caused him to go through surgery where two metal squares were screwed into his neck, and he had to have two more procedures down the line. According to The Sun, Osbourne stated,

The release of My Oxford Year is just around the corner, and fans could not be more hyped. Since romance fans are extremely particular about the kinds of films they like, it is quite surprising for fans to be this excited about a project. Thankfully, Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest’s casting in the film helps add a lot of attention to Julia Whelan’s book of the same name, making it one of the most anticipated romance releases of the year.

Full House star Jodie Sweetin has accepted being associated with Stephanie Tanner. The famous sitcom concluded in 1995 and remains cherished by audiences. Sweetin famously portrayed Stephanie, a middle child known for her fun personality and "how rude" catchphrase. Stephanie later returned in Fuller House, the Netflix series that began in 2016, which reunited her and her sister DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) in adulthood.

During an interview with People, Sweetin revealed that she accepts being Stephanie "forever." As Sweetin explained, there was a period when she was pursuing other careers and was content with that, but enjoyed having an opportunity to portray Stephanie again in Fuller House.

Joaquin Phoenix has delivered several Oscar-worthy performances in his career, but there was one that almost wrecked it all. During an interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbertlast week, the actor talked about his decision to star in I'm Still Here, a mockumentary directed by Casey Affleck (Light of My Life) in 2010. While promoting the comedy movie, Phoenix chose to stay in character during his participation on the David Letterman show. It went terribly wrong.

During the infamous interview, Phoenix announced to a confused audience that he was "retiring from acting" to pursue a hip-hop career as a rabbi. What nobody knew at the time was that it was a hoax to promote I'm Still Here, which is a critique of fame. Takopi’s Original Sin has taken everyone by surprise. The anime premiered on June 27, 2025, and its first episode now holds the joint-highest IMDb rating of the year, sitting at 9.7 with around 2.8K votes, as of July 10.

According to Cbr, about 84 percent of viewers gave it a full 10, pushing it to the same level as Solo Leveling Season 2’s twelfth episode, which had also been at the top with a 9.7 score. Even the second episode of Takopi’s anime impressed with a solid 9.6.

Per a press release, Crunchyroll is set to release an exclusive Tokyo Ghoul screening in select U.S. theaters, showcasing specific episodes from Season 1 of the anime series on July 21. The compilation film, releasing for one day only, will consist of Episodes 1, 5, 8, 10, 11 and 12, with the movie available in both English subbed and dubbed forms. However, the project has been stuck in production for a long time, and now Vetrimaaran has reportedly moved on to another film. According to Cinejosh, his next project will be with Simbu, and this collaboration came about after Tamil actor-director Dhanush suggested that Vetrimaaran should meet Simbu.
