We Want Filmmaker Chandler Levack to Be Our New Best Friend — Her ‘Mile End Kicks’ Shows Why
Image
I imagined it as a fun icebreaker. “Hey, Chandler, are you perhaps in the market for a new best friend?” was the vision. What came out to filmmaker Chandler Levack during a recent interview was more like, “Do you need a new friend? Because I loved your film, I felt so seen by it,” almost immediately followed by my throat closing up and my eyes welling in a way that was undeniably obvious, even in a tiny Zoom window.

At least my inclination was right: the “Mile End Kicks” filmmaker got what I was saying. “I’m going to cry,” Levack said in her first interview for the film. “That means the world to me. That really, really does.”

It’s only fitting that Levack’s film would stir big emotions in both its maker and its audience. Much like her debut, “I Like Movies,” “Mile End Kicks” is based on her own experiences.

Sydney Sweeney & Amanda Seyfried’s ‘The Housemaid’ From Paul Feig Now Bowing Before Christmas
Image
Exclusive: Lionsgate’s feature take of Freida McFadden novel The Housemaid will now be released on December 19 instead of Christmas Day.

The studio is so over the moon about the Paul Feig-directed thriller starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar that the plan is to get the age 18-24 bunch who are off from college, who’ll then spread the word of mouth on the pic heading into Christmas.

The Housemaid will now open against 20th Century Studios’ James Cameron event title Avatar: Fire & Ash. Note, The Housemaid in its young, heavy-female skew is counterprogramming to that family event title. The Housemaid will also be sharing the marquee with wide entries in Paramount/Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob Movie: The Search for Squarepants and Angel Studios’ Zero A.D.

Sweeney’s previous romantic comedy with Glenn Powell, Anyone But You, bowed on the Friday before Christmas in 2023 to $6 million...

Charlie Hunnam at an event for Filhos da Anarquia (2008)
The internet is buzzing—and not just horror fans—after Netflix revealed the first glimpse of Charlie Hunnam in “Monster: The Ed Gein Story.” Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, known for its true-crime deep dives into infamous figures like Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, now spotlights America’s most notorious “real-life boogeyman” with Hunnam shouldering the lead. The poster shows the “Sons of Anarchy” star nearly unrecognizable: a cold stare, a haunting half-mask, and muted 1950s tones that drip unease.

Set to premiere globally on Netflix on October 3, the show reimagines the macabre life and crimes of Ed Gein—a farm-dwelling recluse in 1950s Wisconsin whose twisted acts inspired...

Image
The Ryan Murphy anthology series Monster gets a first look at the upcoming season in new images. The divisive show has dramatized the stories of real-life killers, including Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers. Monster season 3 will go back further in time and star Charlie Hunnam as infamous serial killer, Ed Gein.

Gein's crimes were committed between 1947-1957. It is confirmed that the Butcher of Plainfield killed two women, but he is suspected of additional murders. Gein was also a grave robber who would use body parts to make disturbing objects like masks made of human skin and a belt crafted from female nipples.

Now, Netflix has released three...

7 Years Ago Today, One Piece Foreshadowed One of the Most Crushing Sacrifices in Shonen History
Image
The fact that it’s been 7 years since One Piece foreshadowed one of the most crushing sacrifices in Shonen is unbelievable. That’s right, people. 7 years ago, in 2018, One Piece Episode 849, “Before the Dawn! Pedro, the Captain of the Guardians!” foreshadowed one of Shonen’s most devastating sacrifices with Pedro.

This episode is a masterpiece and fully establishes Pedro’s past as a mink warrior and his ties to the mighty Gol D. Roger. We also get to see his commitment to the Straw Hats and understand that Pedro is not just a mere supporting character, but a symbol of selfless resolve.

Ah, the tears won’t stop. Anyways, the reason why we’re hyping up One Piece Episode 849 is because it is the textbook example of how you craft a heart-wrenching sacrifice.

Alien: Earth Star Timothy Olyphant Explains Why He’s Not Into the Modern TV Landscape

Timothy Olyphant confessed he doesn’t subscribe to the latest trends or even pay attention to the modern TV landscape. The actor known for his works in FX’s Justified and the ongoing Alien: Earth series, admitted he doesn’t get his daily dose of screen dramas despite starring in several franchises (via Vanity Fair):

I’m going to say something pretentious. I really don’t watch a lot of television. It drives me crazy.

Television in the present day is completely different and far more chaotic than when it was still trying to find its footing in the industry. There is persistent pressure to release new content regularly, and then there’s the unnecessary weight brought about by prestigious awarding events’ validation of people in the creative field.

The Bold and the Beautiful recap for Thursday, August 7, saw Sheila digging for answers, Li showing up at the right place at the wrong time, and Finn forcing Grace to do the right thing.

What You Missed Today On Bold and the Beautiful

Her ex ruined all their lives, and he still is. Not only did he steal Liam and Hope’s baby, but his debts continue destroying her world…and Liam’s too, since he’s become her accidental target.

Finn had very little mercy for Grace’s despicable actions. He did not care that Grace didn’t keep the money and handed it over to the loan sharks, all things considered. He made it clear that if Grace didn’t speak up,...

Skydance Television Head Matt Thunell to Oversee Paramount TV Studios
Image
Skydance Television president Matt Thunell is set to oversee Paramount Television Studios following the closing of the two companies’ $8 billion merger. Thunell will report to newly appointed Paramount Pictures co-chair and Paramount Television chair Dana Goldberg.

The Paramount Television Studios label, which is being revived after being shuttered in August 2024, will include Skydance Television and the previously merged Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

Following its shuttering, Ptvs series and development projects — such as Prime Video’s “Cross” and Apple TV+’s “Before” and “Murderbot” — transitioned to CBS Studios. It remains unclear where oversight of CBS Studios will fall in the new organizational structure.

Taylor Sheridan, whose deal with MTV Entertainment Studios runs through 2028, is expected to be based at Paramount TV Studios going forward. Showtime/MTV Entertainment scripted content head Keith Cox is expected to transition to the new label and continue working with Sheridan.

A spokesperson for Skydance declined to comment.

Dan Trachtenberg Shares How Directing 'The Boys' Paved the Way for 'Predator: Badlands'

With Marvel and DC's superheroes quietly stepping away from this year's recent San Diego Comic-Con, other buzzy franchises like Predator stepped right up to own the spotlight. Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg was on hand at Sdcc following the success of Killer of Killers, now streaming on Hulu, to promote his next installment, Predator: Badlands. And boy, do fans seem thrilled about what's to come, especially since the acclaimed writer-director hinted at the possibility of a crossover movie between Alien and Predator down the line. Chances are it will more than surpass the 2004 attempt and the sequels that followed.

MovieWeb also had the chance to speak with Trachtenberg directly following the release of Killer of Killers to learn more about his latest work — including his older projects that helped pave the way for his groundbreaking Predator installments. That includes helming the pilot episode of The Boys, the Emmy-nominated series on FX whose final season is coming soon.

This Fan-Made Black Myth: Wukong Video Is So Good, Everyone Thought It Was an Official Dlc Sneak Peek
Image
Black Myth: Wukong was one of the surprise hits from last year, and Game Science managed to cook up a rather amazing game that put Western, big-budget Aaa slop to shame. Game Science isn’t done just yet, and plans on releasing more content for the game, in the form of two standalone DLCs and a sequel.

Fans have been starved for some proper news regarding the Dlc’s release, and a recent video that surfaced on BiliBili seemed to hint at the same, until being hit by a ‘fan art’ tag, that is. This rather unbelievable snippet has managed to garner over 139,000 likes since its initial upload, and at the very least, is an amazing proof of concept.

‘Blue Moon’ Trailer: Ethan Hawke Puts on a Bald Cap and a Great Performance as Boozy Songwriter Lorenz Hart
Image
Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke are up there with Martin Scorsese and De Niro, even Alfred Hitchcock and James Stewart, as one of cinema’s iconic perennial pairings. From the “Before” films and “Waking Life” to “Boyhood” (which earned Hawke an Oscar nomination) and even the underseen motel-room-only Dv thriller “Tape,” they’re operating on an alchemy rare for onscreen director-actor collaborators.

Their latest project together is “Blue Moon,” which may distract at first for the bald cap Hawke wears to play desperate, boozing songwriter Lorenz Hart. But underneath that feat of movie makeup magic is one of Hawke’s most wistful, poignant performances, here as the great American lyricist who was one half of Rodgers and Hart before a creative split.

“Blue Moon” is set over the course of one night, in the iconic New York bar Sardi’s, at the after-party for the 1943 premiere of Richard Rodgers and...

“Death would’ve been a welcome gift”: Ozzy Osbourne’s Crippling Neck Surgery and Its Aftermath
Image
Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for years. However, the neurodegenerative disorder wasn’t the worst thing that happened to him, at least according to him.

For context, Osbourne got into a quad bike accident in 2003 at his Buckinghamshire estate, breaking his collarbone and six ribs. This happened when he was fifty-five years old. However, things got worse in 2019, when he fell on his face after using the bathroom in his LA home, as per People.

This caused him to go through surgery where two metal squares were screwed into his neck, and he had to have two more procedures down the line. According to The Sun, Osbourne stated,

I fell over and I landed wrong. I went to the doctor’s and you assume everybody knows what they’re doing. My son Jack has a video of me going into surgery,...

My Oxford Year Might Be the Emotional Cousin of Emilia Clarke’s Saddest Movie
Image
The release of My Oxford Year is just around the corner, and fans could not be more hyped. Since romance fans are extremely particular about the kinds of films they like, it is quite surprising for fans to be this excited about a project. Thankfully, Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest’s casting in the film helps add a lot of attention to Julia Whelan’s book of the same name, making it one of the most anticipated romance releases of the year.

However, for those who are not convinced about the impact that this film is about to have on its viewers, one comparison will be enough to leave them wrecked. Although the film seems to be deviating from the book in certain aspects, there are some aspects that are quite similar to Emilia Clarke’s Me Before You.

Joaquin Phoenix has delivered several Oscar-worthy performances in his career, but there was one that almost wrecked it all. During an interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbertlast week, the actor talked about his decision to star in I'm Still Here, a mockumentary directed by Casey Affleck (Light of My Life) in 2010. While promoting the comedy movie, Phoenix chose to stay in character during his participation on the David Letterman show. It went terribly wrong.

During the infamous interview, Phoenix announced to a confused audience that he was "retiring from acting" to pursue a hip-hop career as a rabbi. What nobody knew at the time was that it was a hoax to promote I'm Still Here, which is a critique of fame. Looking back on it, Phoenix told Colbert that he could see that it wasn't working, but he "had to keep going" in order not to break character.

‘Before/After’ Review: A Hair Transplant Bonds Two Vulnerable Men in a Subtle, Sensitive Queer Drama
Image
To anyone who has lately travelled to Istanbul, it’s a familiar if disconcerting sight. Hordes of men strolling nonchalantly around the city’s tourist spots with their bare scalps stippled, bloodied and sometimes bandaged — survivors not of a recent zombie apocalypse but any of Turkey’s famously affordable hair transplant clinics. Jokes at their expense are easy and cheap, though each of these ruddy head wounds caps an individual story of insecurity and frail hope for more abundant days ahead. Two of those are told, with tact and care and just a little absurdist wit, in Belgian director Manoël Dupont’s delicate miniature “Before/After,” a film that treats the hair transplant industry with respectful, even journalistic interest, but not as the cure-all that the protagonists would like to believe it is.

A standout in this year’s Proxima competition at Karlovy Vary, where it received a special mention from the jury,...

Karlovy Vary Reveals 2025 Festival Winners, with Films from Iran, Czech Republic, and More
Image
Karlovy Vary International Film Festival announced its winners on July 12 during its closing ceremony. More than 128,000 tickets were sold for 465 screenings of 108 features, 23 documentaries, and 44 shorts. The festival is key in the year’s film circuit, nestled between Cannes and Venice.

The 59th outing, held from July 4-12, gave out its top honor, the Grand Prix — Crystal Globe, to director Miro Remo’s “Better Go Mad in the Wild” from Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. The filmmakers — producers included — received $25,000.

“A funny valentine to the fading art of being true to yourself, Miro Remo’s delightfully inventive documentary is a portrait of bickering twin brothers who may live a weird, off-grid life on their dilapidated farm but who, in a world as mad as ours, actually might be the sanest people on earth,” the Crystal Globe jury, which consisted of Nicolas Celis, Babak Jalali, Jessica Kiang, Jiří Mádl, and Tuva Novotny,...

Dhurandhar: Who Is Sara Arjun? Ranveer Singh’s Co-Star Has Made The Internet Curious & Here’s Why!
Image
Who Is Sara Arjun, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Co-Star? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Aditya Dhar’s next big-screen venture Dhurandhar promises to be one of the most ambitious action thrillers in recent years. Backed by a formidable ensemble including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna and Arjun Rampal, the film is being positioned as a large-scale espionage drama with global scope and stylized intensity.

Another reason for the movie’s buzz is Sara Arjun, who is announced as the female lead opposite Ranveer Singh. The announcement sparked immediate conversation due to the significant age gap between her and her co-star. For some, the name triggered memories. For others, it prompted a question: who exactly is Sara Arjun? Far from being an unknown, Sara has been in the industry for over a decade, albeit mostly outside the Hindi film mainstream. With Dhurandhar, she’s now stepping into a much wider spotlight.

What House Was Hagrid In Before Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone?
Image
In the "Harry Potter" franchise, our first proper introduction to the Wizarding World comes not from Albus Dumbledore (who tends to speak in riddles during his early appearances), but through Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid (who's played by Robbie Coltrane in the "Harry Potter" movies). It's Hagrid the gentle half-giant who tracks down the Dursleys and whisks Harry away into a world of mischief and wonder.

Whereas Dumbledore's introduction is mysterious, Hagrid immediately sets to work explaining everything about the Wizarding World and being straightforward with Harry in a way that basically no other adult in this property ever is. Throughout all seven books and eight films, Hagrid stays true as the one adult Harry can rely on for emotional support. Maybe Hagrid can't fix Harry's problems in the way Dumbledore can, but at least Hagrid keeps things real.

What's especially pure about Hagrid is that he doesn't seem to care...

Image
Cillian Murphy will soon be seen in a new film titled Steve, a drama that’s set to arrive in cinemas this September before making its Netflix debut on October 3, 2025. The movie is inspired by Max Porter’s 2023 novella Shy and marks another collaboration between Murphy and the author.

Tim Mielants directed the film, and Max Porter adapted the script himself from his own book. Porter and Murphy have worked together before, both on stage and in short films. Battlefield 6’s Rumored Weapon Variety Is Exactly the Edge EA Needs to Topple Call of Duty
Image
Recently, an image began to surface on the internet, sparking rumors that Battlefield 6 will start off with an impressive roster of weapons. This is pretty unusual for a Battlefield game, as they don’t generally add too many weapons at launch. However, the sixth installment in EA’s world-renowned shooter franchise is all set to break that stereotype.

When it comes to Fps games, we automatically presume that Call of Duty has the most guns. From what it seems, though, the upcoming Battlefield 6 may beat CoD this time with its enormous list of weapons.

Battlefield 6 may have over 50 weapons at launch

Fans don’t usually believe in the weapon quality of Battlefield games, all thanks to the lack of attention paid by EA and Dice. This is mainly because the list of weapons added in Battlefield 4 was absolutely redundant.

Not all weapons added to this game were properly finished, giving them a poor look.

Aamir Khan Swims Against The Tide Again: How The Superstar Puts Storytelling Before Stardom
Image
How Aamir Khan Stands Out In The Digital Age With His Unconventional Decisions

In a career spanning nearly three decades, Aamir Khan may have catapulted to become one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, but he has always prioritized content above everything. He is known for selecting meaningful stories that can deliver powerful narratives to the masses instead of solely focusing on commercial appeal.

The Taare Zameen Par star has always taken the unconventional route, creating trends instead of following them. With every new project, Khan has proved that glory doesn’t come from glitz or gimmicks but great storytelling instead.

In another such unconventional move, the actor has reportedly turned down a staggering ₹125 crore Ott offer in favor of a big-screen release. With a firm belief in the collective power of theatrical experiences, Aamir Khan has challenged the trend of lucrative deals with streaming platforms by preferring shared audience reaction over solo streaming clicks.

Billie Piper always wanted to return to Doctor Who, and now she's the Sixteenth Doctor!
Image
The recent season 2 finale of Doctor Who ended with an absolute bombshell as Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor regenerated into none other than Billie Piper, who previously played fan-favorite Rose Tyler, the first companion of the 'New Who' era.

In the weeks leading up to the finale, fans had theorized that a regeneration was coming. Both Disney and the BBC were heavily promoting an epic finale, going as far as aligning the premiere times so fans around the world could watch it simultaneously. In addition, a number of UK cinemas held special screenings for the episode. The finale itself, titled "The Reality War," ended up being just okay. It had great moments, but was largely let down by messy pacing and underwhelming character arcs for companions Ruby Sunday and Belinda Chandra.

However, it was the Doctor's regeneration into none other than Billie Piper that had droves of fans screaming, confused,...

In the age of reboots and revivals, fans are yet to see one of their favorite shows be resuscitated.
