This is extremely low budget, cheesy, and comes across very much like a made-for-tv movie from the 1990s or early 2000s.
The leading lady and her man act like they cannot even tell that the woman in the painting looks exactly like her. This is not promising and I do not even want to keep watching it.
Shot in a small farming community North of Sacramento, the landscape is extraordinary. With orchards and fields as a backdrop the film provides just the right atmosphere.
The actors do a wonderful job in their roles. The soundtack features several local singers and bands adding to this delightful production.
Lastly, although this is a thriller/drama/suspense film, be ready for laughs with properly inserted comic elements!
I wasn't exactly sure what to expect as I knew it hadn't had a big budget and I don't often see films not produced by major studios. I was completely blown away! This film absolutely could rival big studio thrillers.
The acting, the story, the filming, all drew me in right from the beginning. Lyvia's House clearly written and filmed with great care and vision. It has just the right amount of suspense and mystery to keep your interest throughout. It was one of the best movies I've seen in years. I cannot wait to watch this again!

- CuriosidadesThe home that was used for Lyvia's house is the screenwriter's rural home that sits in front of a walnut grove just as in the film. In this 4000-square-foot house there are more than seventy wall outlets. The director found their gloss white finish garish and distracting, and insisted they all be painted matte shades to blend with the walls. But the light switches couldn't be disguised to his satisfaction, and that was when the screenwriter came up with the idea of masks to symbolize the truths being hidden by the characters. She herself painted all the switches and outlets, all the masks seen in the film, as well as the faux finishes on the walls and the mural of the walnut trees that are said in the film to have been painted by the artist Lyvia.

Tara Manning: Oh, my god. Why'd she do it?
Mary Ann James: Her husband left her for another woman. Guess she was one of those who couldn't handle that. But... if we're being honest, blood tells.
Tara Manning: What do you mean?
Mary Ann James: Well... you know. That whole clan was known for being a little wacky.
