Great acting, great story, great indie film!
Rarely do I come across an Indie film of this quality. It makes me wonder how an Indie film breaks through to the next level.
This film is very emotional and stressful, and gave me a little bit of anxiety, but it was worth it for the cathartic end. It didn't have a ton of dialogue, and makes of you really watch and listen. It definitely does not spoon feed, so if you want a movie where you can just shut your brain off and not think, this is not the film for you.
I recommend giving this movie a shot. I know I'll be looking out for whatever this Director makes next.

I saw this movie at a festival and the rewatched it because I felt like I missed something. It was most likely due to the fact I had a few drinks at happy hour and then missed the first 5 minutes of the film. I forgot there are no previews at film festivals.
Because the movie starts right away and the director has moment of very subtle storytelling, if you blink you will miss something that might not be super important later, but will add to the layers of the film. This is what I loved most about the film.
There is a big story going on, but also many little stories at the same time. Some with characters, some with objects, some with actions. Very cool and well thought out.

This was a very ambitions film with a lot going on. Most of it is very good. The acting, the locations, the tension, the score, the surprises. I like surprises, this one had a lot of them and some very unique complex characters. There was a lot of really cool locations that made me feel in the dirtiness with the too.
One surprise for me I'm still deciding whether I liked or not was the change in genre at the halfway point. Instead of sticking to what was a very nice coming of age underdog story, it flips a bit to a revenge thriller. I applaud the writer for the bold move, but I wonder what the story would have been if it didn't switch. I guess it worked since I didn't shut with the film off and I did enjoy it.

"Bound," the feature directorial debut from Isaac Hirotsu Woofter, is a gripping indie drama that explores the resilience of the human spirit against a backdrop of abuse, trauma, and the harsh realities of life in New York City.
The film stars Alexandra Faye Sadeghian as Bella Patterson, a young woman deeply scarred by her past. Bella's life has been a relentless struggle, trying to shield her mentally unstable mother, Yeva (Pooya Mohseni), from her abusive and drug-dealing stepfather, Gordy (Bryant Carroll). When the situation becomes unbearable, Bella makes the brave decision to flee home, accompanied by her loyal pet sugar glider (aka pocket squirrel or flying squirrel). Symbolizing her fragile yet resilient heart and soul.
Sadeghian delivers a remarkable and convincing performance as Bella. Her portrayal captures the raw emotions and complexities of a young woman grappling with her traumatic past while striving to forge a new path. Her nuanced acting brings depth and authenticity to the character, making Bella's journey both compelling and relatable.
Her journey to New York City is fraught with challenges. With no money, no friends, and no shelter, Bella's pride prevents her from turning back. She briefly joins a group of goths and punks but soon finds herself on the run again. Her fortunes begin to change when she meets Owais (Ramin Karimloo), a Muslim American war hero who has lost everything after returning from the war. He offers her a job at his coffee shop, providing a glimmer of stability in her chaotic life.
As Bella starts to rebuild her life, she forms meaningful connections with Standrick, a gay black clothing designer, and Marta (Jessica Pimentel), an immigrant bar owner. These relationships help her to rediscover her passion for art and begin the process of healing. However, Gordy is determined not to let her go easily, adding a layer of tension to her newfound sense of hope.
"Bound" is a testament to Bella's toughness and determination. Sadeghian's powerful portrayal of Bella anchors the film, capturing the complexity of a young woman navigating the hard edges of New York City while clinging to her inner strength. The supporting cast, including Karimloo, Pimentel, and Mohseni, provide depth to the narrative, each portraying characters who are themselves dealing with profound personal struggles.
Woofter's direction brings a raw and authentic feel to the film, immersing the audience in Bella's journey. The pocket squirrel, an unusual but effective symbol, underscores the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience.
"Bound" is a poignant and compelling story of survival, friendship, and self-discovery. It reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is always a way forward. Alexandra Faye Sadeghian's performance as Bella Patterson is nothing short of outstanding, making "Bound" a must-watch for its emotional depth and exceptional character portrayal.

I got a chance to see this amazing film at The Newport Film Festival and have not been able to stop thinking about and can't wait to see it again. This guy is a triple threat directing, writing & producing this film, Isaac Hirot Woofter, his amazing storytelling & direction brings these compelling characters to life. I saw this movie way before I saw the Academy Award winning "Anora" directed by Sean Baker (just learning his style) and now I think back about "Bound" and I am like wow what a incredible talent Isaac Hirot Woofter is and looking foward to his future projects. I can't for everyone to see this film!!

Just watched Bound and I was so in love with it! It's one of those beautiful, intimate movies that are kinetic, but also quiet. Got to meet Director Isaac Hirotsu Woofter on the festival circuit and was so glad I finally got to see his film! I felt like I really got to know Bella through her silence. When she eventually finds her voice later in the film, it's a testament to Alexandra Faye Sadeghian's performance and Isaac that I felt like I already knew her, because you ARE her when you watch. Really beautiful subjective storytelling! The film also does a great job of letting the intimate moments breathe, but then also propelling the plot forward at the perfect points. Love, LOVE the characters, and performances all around!

Saw this film at Dances with Films in Los Angeles. I like this festival because it advocates for indie film makers and doesn't showcase studio and big budget films. Many of the films tend to be young filmmakers. For this film it is their first feature. These filmmakers were ambitious and did pretty good. It has a few flaws, but I overlooked them because the overall experience was good, especially since this is their first film. Great acting overall and the editing takes a second to get use with all the fast cuts, but once I gave into the style I enjoyed it. I'm curious as to what these filmmakers come up with next.

I've seen this film twice now, on the festival circuit and in its new theatrical release, and both times it was deeply engaging. The ensemble cast is universally strong, and each character evokes profound levels of compassion. The story is a valuable guide for any of us who feel like we've struggled to survive something. The lead actress gives a powerful performance as a character striving for independence as she learns to accept help from her found family. And the antagonist is equal parts frightening and shockingly sympathetic. It's very impressive how the filmmakers infused so much tenderness and warmth into such a fast-paced intense story. This kind of daring, boot-straps indie filmmaking deserves a lot more attention. Don't miss it!

I was very surprised when I came across this film, and even more impressed when I heard it was a first time director.
The editing is quick, but the narrative remains grounded in the complex characters. I could see they were all messy, which I like. I hate when movies have one note characters. I like when the good guys/girls are a little bad and the bad guys/girls are a little good. It's real life!
The acting was top notch and the story and performances had me holding my breath in multiple moments and I never knew what was going to happen next. Looking forward to seeing what this director does next. Surprising.

Wow! This was a visually striking and emotionally grounded film that lingered with me long after the credits rolled. The cinematography was a standout, capturing both the quiet tension and raw beauty of each scene with purpose and care. What truly stands out, though, are the deeply personal performances-every gesture and glance feels lived-in, honest, and vulnerable. Woofter brings out something quietly powerful in his cast, making Bound not just a film you watch, but one you feel.
And yes-there's a flying squirrel, and it's not just a quirky detail. It's a surprisingly poignant presence that adds both levity and symbolic depth to the story, quietly becoming one of the film's standout elements.
Bound is a unique, tender film that stays with you, reminding us that even the smallest, most unexpected moments can carry great meaning.

I participated in this movie not even knowing what the entire movie was about. I didn't see the entire script nor did I have a huge part, but I feel I did because I've been just as exposed as even the big stars and made friends I'll never forget. This was one of the best premieres I've been too and prob the best movie I've been in to date! Congratulations to the entire cast especially Alexandra and without a doubt, Director Isaac Woofter! I'm grateful for being a part of this thrilling psychological mischief and was absolutely proud to see the final result. I mean WE SOLD OUT TWO VIEWINGS AND WE COULD HAVE SOLD OUT A THIRD! Why this isn't on a bigger platform yet is beyond my comprehension. I just hope this helps advance my career because I will always look back and be proud at my first cinematic debut! Thank you all!

This heartfelt, emotional, fast-paced, exciting, dark, and beautiful film is truly a cinematic gem. It masterfully combines powerful storytelling with breathtaking visuals, delivering an experience that resonates on so many levels. The acting is nothing short of exceptional-each performance feels authentic and deeply moving, drawing viewers into the complex emotional worlds of the characters. The story itself is both gripping and poignant, skillfully blending moments of intensity with heartfelt, intimate scenes that linger long after the credits roll.
From start to finish, the film is an exhilarating ride. The nail-biting sequences keep you on the edge of your seat, while the lighter, more whimsical moments provide a much-needed balance. Its pacing is brilliantly executed, maintaining a rhythm that keeps the audience fully engaged without ever feeling rushed. As the narrative unfolds, the layers of depth and complexity become more apparent, making it an emotionally rewarding journey.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the film is its ability to make you care deeply about the main character. Their struggles, triumphs, and vulnerabilities feel so real that it's impossible not to become invested in their journey. In fact, by the end of the film, you may find yourself wishing it didn't have to end, as the connection forged between the audience and the protagonist is that strong. This movie is not just a story-it's an experience, one that will leave a lasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to watch it.

I haven't seen a film that took me on an emotional journey like this in a long time. I was terrified, I was laughing, I was crying, and then I did it all over and over again.
It was super suspenseful. I found myself holding my breath for long moments and gripping the edge of my seat.
Some serious incredible acting by the leads and entire ensemble. Really believable relatable characters and I found myself rooting for all of them.
Cinematography, lighting, wardrobe, editing, music, sound, really all the departments crushed it. And who doesn't love a flying squirrel? I want one now!
I'll be looking out for what this director and team do next.

In this compelling drama, the movie explores the intricate lives of fantastically broken individuals striving to navigate the complexities of existence. Set against the backdrop of the bustling cityscape, New York City emerges as a palpable character, intricately woven into the narrative. The film's visual storytelling skillfully captures the essence of the city, portraying it not merely as a location but as a living, breathing entity that mirrors the characters' struggles.
The characters themselves are the heart and soul of this cinematic journey, each dealing with their own set of challenges, flaws, and aspirations. The poignant struggle for self-discovery is a central theme, beautifully portrayed through the lens of raw, authentic performances. As the characters grapple with their demons and attempt to move forward, the audience is drawn into an emotional rollercoaster, empathizing with their highs and lows.
One notable element that adds a touch of whimsy to this intense drama is the endearing pocket squirrel, a character that steals scenes with its cuteness and charm. Serving as a subtle metaphor for the delicate balance between fragility and resilience, the pocket squirrel becomes a star in its own right, offering moments of levity amidst the characters' tumultuous journeys.
What sets this film apart is its relatability, showcasing how people confront and overcome challenges. As the characters embark on their personal odysseys, audiences can't help but see reflections of themselves in these struggles. The narrative invites viewers to introspect, encouraging a deeper connection with the characters and their quests for meaning and fulfillment.
In the end, the movie transcends its genre, delivering a multi-layered experience that blends realism with a touch of the surreal. The synergy of captivating performances, a dynamic setting, and a resonant narrative culminates in a cinematic masterpiece that leaves a lasting impact. This film is not merely a story; it's a mirror reflecting the universal journey of the human spirit, making it a must-watch for anyone seeking a profound and emotionally charged cinematic experience.

Bound is the essence of indie filmmaking. It has well-developed characters that are complex and multi-faceted and a story with heart and grit that unfolds with thrilling momentum.
It's well-crafted and executed all around. Loved the fast cuts and editing. Performances are A+ and grounded. It tugs at your heartstrings but is never sentimental. A real "pick yourself up by the bootstraps" kind of energy, which I like.
This film is a must-see if you like crime/thrillers like The Place Beyond the Pines. It feels like the real-world "dog-eat-dog" portrayal of NYC and not the Hollywood studio set version of it. Refreshing.

Across the board the acting in this film is raw, visceral, and so intense. They do not hold back! I was really wowed by the multi dimensional character Gordy, and loved the comic timing of Standrick. In a way they represent the dark themes of the story and the splashes of funny humor to cleanse the pallet.
This is a very cathartic film. I wasn't prepared to dig into something this deep, but I got sucked in quickly and I'm glad I happened upon it. It's not an easy watch, but I'll be rewatching it because I feel like there are a lot of subtle things I missed that will add even more layers to the film.

Bound captures the essence of strength and resilience in form a young woman struggling against a complicated world. With imaginative direction, powerful cinematography, and a stellar cast, Bound tells an exceptional story that is both enjoyable and relatable.
Bound unflinchingly addresses hard hitting social issues such as drug abuse, homelessness, hunger, and rape. Director Issac Woofter tells a story of realness - that feeling of being lost in a city full of people, the cost of perseverance that some must pay daily, the surprising twists both good and bad that life can throw your way, and the growth of spirit that comes with finding your true path against all odds. Bound is one of those few truly spectacular films will move your soul.

Most people experience difficulties early on in their life, and it's depicted here. I felt connected to the characters and the story. I empathized with many of the characters, since they all were three dimensional and complex.
When we are going through these hard times, we need connection with other humans to help us get through. This was beautifully depicted in this film.
This film is very emotional and not for the faint of heart because it is intense. But it is very powerful.
I've seen it at a festival and rewatched at theatrical release. Because the film is so layered, you see new things with each viewing.
We learn a lot about humanity in this film. It's a very well made film in all aspects. A must see.

Somehow, this movie is both subtle and in your face at the at the same time. This is reflected in the rhythm and the pacing of the film, which ranges from super fast paced to slow drawn out sequences. Just when you think things are moving quickly, everything comes to a halt, and then ratchet right back up. Because of this, I never knew what was going to happen next, and I was on my toes.
The Actors do a great job. I cared for all of them, even the unique protagonist. I think this was because each character showed many layers, they were all a little good and a little bad. So even the "bad guy" I found a way to understand why he behaved the way he did.

Abuse, addiction, death, and life stories realistically and artfully portrayed. Every aspect of this film comes together in a harrowing, edge of your seat thriller/drama. The writing is superb and as the story progresses, each character is revealed to be much deeper and more real than most movies bother to create. The story is extremely complicated, just like real life. The actors are well cast and talented. Bryant Carroll (Gordy) and Jessica Pimantel (Marta) are real stand-outs. Someone please give Isaac Woofter funding for many more films. I will follow his career from now on.
It must be difficult to create a good movie, based on all the bad movies that are in the world. This team makes it look easy.

Got a lot more than I bargain for with this Film that my friend recommended to me. They saw it at a film festival and told me to be on the lookout.
I was on the edge of my seat, which was good because I like films that keep me on my toes. If you like romcoms or hallmark movies, I would recommend staying away from this one.
There aren't any huge name actors, but this cast Kicked ass. There was also a lot of really cool animals in the film, headlined by a flying squirrel, cutest little creator I've seen in a film in a while.
Take the time to check it out, you won't be disappointed. But you have to be ready for a film like this, it's not for everyone.
Kudos to the cast and crew and creatives.

This little gem of a film is one heck of an emotional ride. I'm so happy to have stumbled upon it at a film festival. I rarely go to festivals, but after seeing this, I might start going to more.
I don't know much about these actors or the writer/director, but they all did a very good job keeping attention very taught from start to finish. I lost a lot of my fingernails by the end of this film.
I am a sucker for underdog stories, especially when the themes involve underrepresented people that fight together and managed to overcome the stacked odds against them. By no means am I saying it has a HOLLYWOOD ending, it does not. In a way it is a tragic ending, but resolves in a truthful, realistic way.

Bound is a rare film that stares honestly at the cycles of violence and the small, hard-won triumphs of survival. Isaac Hirotsu Woofter's direction brings out a quietly devastating portrait of a young woman's fight to reclaim her life, anchoring the story in authentic emotion and moments of hope that feel both fragile and hard-earned.
Alexandra Faye Sadeghian's performance as Bella is the soul of the film-balancing fear, resilience, and a longing for something better, all with a subtlety that makes her journey resonate long after the credits. Bryant Carroll's Gordy is deeply unsettling, yet never one-note; the complexity in his portrayal speaks to the tangled realities of abuse.
What struck me most is how Bound gives weight to the quieter acts of kindness-the strangers in the city who become Bella's unlikely family, and the ways compassion can open the door to healing. The film doesn't flinch from showing darkness, but it also believes in the possibility of light. The city itself becomes a landscape for both danger and renewal, echoing Bella's own internal struggle.
Even as the story shifts into thriller territory, the emotional core remains. Woofter's script and direction keep the characters grounded, and the ensemble cast (including Ramin Karimloo, Jaye Alexander, and Jessica Pimentel) each bring humanity and depth to the world Bella inhabits.
Bound is more than a drama about escape-it's a testament to survival, the complexity of healing, and the quiet power of finding connection in the unlikeliest of places. I left the film moved and grateful, reminded of how art can witness pain while still making space for hope.

This film made me think of Denis Villeneuve's PRISONER. It had the dark gritty energy where the characters, especially the family members always seem to be on edge and ready to do something crazy at any moment. Like they are all hyper explosive and ready to blow.
There are moments of humor and cuteness (insert pocket squirrel in any scene) to help cut the heaviness of the themes and intensity. Thank god, I don't think I could have stayed with it if it didn't, and it needed it.
Acting was very good across the board, cinematography was strong, and the fast quick cuts by the editor added to the intense feeling the main character was going through.

This film has great visual storytelling that leaves little clues as to what will happen. Like little Hansel and Gretel's crumbs, it leaves a trail of clues for the audience to figure things out or keep them in suspense. It does not dumb thing down for the audience or spelling out for them.
I really loved the locations. The red room, the bar, all the dingy bathrooms. Shout out to the location, Scout and the art department for making the audience feel like they are homeless just like the main character.
The editing was unique. The fast cuts made me feel like I was having a panic attack at times, so it made me feel like we were going through what the main character was going through.
