Hopes were not high when deciding to watch 'Redemption'. The premise intrigued a little, though it did sound silly at the same time so it was clear to me that it was not a film to be taken too seriously. What made me hear of it and decide to watch it in the first place was when it appeared in the more like this section for another film (cannot remember which one, have seen and reviewed too many films recently and have had a lot going on).
Despite watching without any prejudice and without wanting or aiming to dislike it go from the get go, 'Redemption' badly failed on every level. Really did try to take it for what it was and what it was trying to be, but 'Redemption' just executed all its components poorly and completely detracted from getting anything from it. If enough of the components were executed halfway competently, this reviewer would have been more forgiving towards the film and would have found it easier to judge it on whether it succeeded or not in what it was trying to do. Couldn't do either.
'Redemption' is poorly made visually. With every aspect of the production values being drab to the point of dreariness and very poorly focused to the point of chaos. The sound is intrusive and obvious, which are two of the last things audio should be like really. The script completely lacks tautness and has a lot of unintentional humour that goes so overboard it becomes exhausting rather than entertaining.
Didn't detect much directing here, stylistically and visually 'Redemption' is a complete failure on this front and in terms of making the film dramatically compelling it fares abysmally on that front, one can't call it ill at ease, out of their depth or inexperienced because it feels more like non-tryer execution. The thrills are non-existent and it's just too predictable to be suspenseful, too dreary to be tense, too ridiculous to be unsettling and too personality-void to be fun, and that is when any kind of discernible story is obvious as the story is far too thin with many dull over-stretched stretches.
None of the characters are remotely interesting and are so one-note. Although Dustin Leighton tries his best, the cast consists of actors that clearly wanted to be somewhere else.
Summing up, a complete failure. 1/10

This may actually be the worst one I've ever seen, and among the worst movies I've seen in general.
Where do I even begin? The acting was horrible (can you say overacting?), the plot was weak and the dialog sucked. And don't even get me started on the accents. I felt like I was watching a first semester community college acting class. For those who actually thought this was a really good Western, I can only assume that you don't rent a lot of good ones.
The only good thing I could find about this movie was the fact that it was so terrible, it was actually funny, although I'm sure that's not what the director was going for.

I accidentally rented this movie in the redbox tonight. What a mistake. I will definitely be more careful next time. This movie sucked so bad that you could actually hear the air leaving the room. I've seen better movies made by the av club of a local high school. The only redemption this movie got was in the period clothing. Characters were shallow, plot was non-existent, and acting...... Was there any? After watching this morning, I felt like I'd been gut shot.Too bad the Apostle couldn't have put me out of my misery like he did the star. I wish I could meet the person that put their money up to make this crapfest. If they bought into this movie, maybe they'll buy the beach front property I have in Kansas.
My husband and I just watched Redemption last night. I saw a big "goof". Did anyone else notice the two shots with the American flag? It has 50 stars on it! Last I knew from my history classes, back in the late 1800's, the United States did not have 50 states, yet! Most of the props, that I noticed, did seem like they were dated correctly. I hate to watch movies where the props are not dated right. Some of the language was modern day. My husband really liked the realism of this movie, and he is somewhat of a western movie buff. He enjoyed the fact that they wore their guns where they were supposed to. At least when the guy got hurt, he stayed hurt and limped around, not like those action movies where they heal and don't feel any pain. I wish life was like that! I loved Capt. Till's hair! Great perm! It wasn't all that bad, I've seen worse. All in all, it was worth the $1.00 at Red Box. I would not pay $5.00 for it on Direct TV!
Robert Conway, bless his heart, attempts to make another western. The casting director in his westerns should be given 52 weeks of vacation.
One would think he could find one decent actor to play a bad guy that was believable in his or her role.
After watching western movies for over 65 years, know a good one from a bad one and this is a bad one. I do have to give Mr. Conway credit for his efforts and would suggest he may want to think about letting someone else handle the writing and especially the casting. The actor that played the Captain is not and never will be a convincing actor, especially in a western.
I will give him credit for scenery and beautiful landscaping shots.
