Upon arriving at the location for Maria's Room to start production design the day before the shoot, the team discovered that it was a drug den with needles scattered around, loud music blasting through paper thin walls, and a strong aroma in the air. The room could barely hold 3 people, let alone the cast and crew and this was all during a sweltering heatwave as well. The team moved all the equipment out of the location and found another location within the night to replace the original to ensure that the production didn't go out of schedule. Sleep was a rare commodity.
It was shot during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in London over 18 days on a shoestring budget with a skeleton crew.
Got stopped by the police 3 times during the shoot.
Rommel Bustarde (New Tito Tiago) and Claudine Bleza (New Aunt Filipa) are the actual owners of the Filipino restaurant that Maria works at in the film.
Influenced by the aesthetic of directors like Ozu and Bresson which resulted in limited camera movement throughout the whole film. The film itself is considered by the director as an exercise in transcendental cinema.
