Teaser Time: Tiger Shroff And Nathan Jones Square Off In A Flying Jatt
Fresh off of the high profile legal battle over striking similarities with The Raid: Redemption that nearly stalled his last film, Baaghi, up and coming action star Tiger Shroff is back with a new project and it looks pretty ridiculous. A Flying Jatt is India's latest attempt at creating its own superhero franchise with Shroff in the titular role, a hero from the traditional farming community of Punjab who is God's divine protector. The film, directed by Abcd's Remo D'Souza, also stars international action film heavy Nathan Jones (Muay Thai Giant, The Protector, Mad Max: Fury Road) as a supervillain in a goofy costume. There's not much to see in this thirty second teaser, but Shroff is clearly making a niche for himself as India's...

Trailer: Bhooloham, Nathan Jones & The Worst On-Screen Boxing Ever
Australian giant, and TwitchFilm favorite, Nathan Jones (Tom Yum Goong, Fearless, Muay Thai Giant, Troy, Mad Max: Fury Road) continues his conquest of every Asian regional cinema industry with his latest appearance in upcoming Tamil language boxing action/drama Bhooloham. While Nathan Jones obviously plays a bit part in the film, he's one of the most recognizable faces in this trailer. Directed by N. Kalyanakrishnan and starring Jayam Ravi and Trisha Krishnan, Bhooloham is described as "power packed". As a fan of Tamil cinema, I have never ever heard of anyone listed above apart from Jayam Ravi, and even he hasn't done much of note. Strangely, not listed among the starring credits but also features in the trailer is Prakash Raj, one of South India's most reliable...

Netflix Nuggets: Picasso Versus Darwin in a Muay Thai Death Match for Fast Ca$h
Netflix has revolutionized the home movie experience for fans of film with its instant streaming technology. Netflix Nuggets is my way of spreading the word about independent, classic and foreign films being made available by Netflix for instant streaming. Important Note: There may be some films that do not become available on the specified dates. This is merely a report of the most accurate release dates I can find, but is not directly confirmed by Netflix themselves.

Picasso & Braque Goes To The Movies (2008)

Streaming Available: 05/24/2011

Synopsis: Director Arne Glimcher (The Mambo Kings) and narrator-producer Martin Scorsese present this art-filled documentary that explores the connection between cinema and the Cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Extraordinary film clips from Georges Méliès and others offer a cinephile’s delight, as interviews with filmmakers, artists and historians, including Scorsese, Chuck Close, and Julian Schnabel, give insightful commentary.

Average Netflix rating: 3 The Darwin Awards...

Muay Thai Giant Blu-ray Review
Hmm.  Muay Thai Giant. This is a weird one. Thai action cinema has become very well respected around the world over the last 8 years, ever since Tony Jaa and Ong Bak burst on the scene.  In its wake, we've seen things like The Bodyguard, Born To Fight, Chocolate, Tom Yum Goong, and many others get a fair amount of press among genre fans around the world.  However, for every Ong Bak, there is an Ong Bak 3.  Not every action film can be a winner, and it seems like some really bad ideas are getting green lit, I think Muay Thai Giant, Aka Somtum, fits in that category.Seven foot gentle giant Barney Emerald (Nathan Jones) is drugged and robbed while on holiday in Pattaya. Two...

Party Favors: Boxing Kovacs
Yonkers - Ernie Kovacs is the patron saint of innovative TV comedies. His impact can be felt on everything from Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In to Monty Python’s Flying Circus to Saturday Night Live. Shout! Factory’s The Ernie Kovacs Collection gives a survey of his short yet stellar career that ended in 1962 with his death. Over the course of six DVDs, you realize this guy truly revolutionized what you could do on TV.

The boxset doesn’t have any of the episodes from his original Three to Get Ready show that aired on Philly TV. But we get a healthy helping of his other shows that allowed him to bounce between NBC, CBS, ABC and even the legendary DuMont. Along with creating comedy shows, he hosted talkshows, gameshows and even variety shows. He even contributed to Mad Magazine. His famous mustache and cigar popped up all over the dial.

The 'Muay Thai Giant' Giveaway
If you're going to make a martial arts film and you don't have the budget of a grandiose Chinese epic like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or Hero to take advantage of, there's a way to make up for it: get silly. It worked for Jackie Chan more than a few times, and it looks like it's going to work for Muay Thai Giant as well. The story of a seven foot man who goes into a Hulk-like martial arts rage when he eats the spicy Thai food "somtum", Muay Thai Fighter is too ridiculous not to enjoy. With that said, you're in luck, because we're giving away a copy to one lucky reader. Hit the jump to find out how you can win.

Here's the official synopsis:

While on holiday in Pattaya seven foot gentle giant Barney Emerald is drugged and robbed of all his personal possessions including his passport.

Magnet Blu-ray News: I Saw The Devil, Black Death 5/10, Chawz & Muay Thai Giant 4/26
I've gotten a bunch of cool news from Magnet Releasing in the last couple of weeks and I just found the time to post it.  On April 26th, Magnet will release Thai action comedy Muay Thai Giant (Aka Somtum) starring Nathan Jones (The Protector, Jet Li's Fearless) and a bunch of little kids.  This one looks like goofy fun, and it really slipped under almost everyone's radar.  We had a trailer up for it back in the day, but I don't believe we ever got a review up.  I'll try to remedy that once I get my hands on a copy. From The Producers Of Theong Bak Franchise, The Protector And Born To Fightmuay Thai Gianta New Hero Rises In The Light-Hearted Action-Comedy ArrivingOn Blu-ray And...

Somtum (2008) Movie Review
“Somtum” has all the potential in the world, but ultimately ends up as kind of a mess. Nathan Jones (“Tom-Young-Goong”, “The Condemned”) stars as Barney Emerald, a down on his luck Australian giant, who wins third place in a contest. This is one hell of a contest because third place, the bronze medal, is a trip to Thailand. That’s not a bad consolation prize. A life-long loser, Barney thinks his luck has changed. He couldn’t be more wrong. On his first night of vacation he gets drugged, robbed, and left barefoot and shirtless in a foreign country with no money and no passport. At 6’11 and 360 pounds, Jones is a towering freak of a human being. His life has been nothing if not interesting. At one time he pulled off a string of bank robberies, and was one of Australia’s most wanted men. In prison he became a power lifter,...
