Director Chad Stahelski confirmed the movie will be using Queen's soundtrack from the original but quote, "Probably in a different way than you think, but hardcore yes."
In a 2013 interview, when asked about his thoughts of a "Highlander" remake, Christopher Lambert gave his blessing to whoever would make the remake saying, "Why not redo 'Highlander'? But don't try to copy what the first one was; try to reinvent 'Highlander,' and- most difficult- try to find a new QUEEN! I don't know where they are, ya know? That makes this possible remake extremely difficult to do." When asked if he would take part in the remake if given a chance, Lambert replied, "Depends. If it's a wink to the audience, yeah- for the fun of it. If it's a real part, no I don't think so."
David Abramowitz the script supervisor of the original television series was brought on to re- write the script.
Dave Bautista was considered to play the Kurgan in the reboot, but dropped out for Blade Runner 2049 (2017).
