Would like to say that it's a slow burner, but it never really got hotter than lukewarm. The movie was too long and had too many dialog pauses, not much pace at all. If you are totally bored then I'd recommend it, just don't expect Boon (Neal McDonough) to save it, he was supposed to be a A dangerous hitman - I must have missed it.

Seems like they are trying to be camp but it comes across slow and dumb. If you like pure violence... you will be happy. If you are looking for action... the overall story here is lacking.

This was probably one of the worst directed films I've seen in a long time. Novice writer and director Derek Presley also failed miserably in directing his cast, as everyone - except McDonough, seemed lost, bored, and didn't know how to act. He kept filming scenes that should've been ended, with the cast just standing around waiting for him to say "cut". Then you have a convoluted story with random unexplained scenes. What was the entire first 5-10 mins about? Drive up to a bridge, see a car, look around, a phone rings and you leave. Total amateur hour filmmaking. Never mind the ridiculous and easily avoidable plot and technical issues. Then you add the slow as molasses pacing, and the unnecessarily long - and what seemed unedited 97 min runtime, and you'll be pulling your hair out wanting it all to end. Presley should've at least had a seasoned writer fix his screenplay, because with such little substance and too much filler, this may have worked as a short or made-for-TV 1 hour film. Low budget B film or not, inexperienced filmmaker or not, there was no excuse to leave so many easily fixable flaws. I wouldn't even expect such a mess from a 5th grade drama class. The score started off loud and annoying, but either I got used to it, or it simmered down towards the end. This film did have some hope and promise to allow overlooking some flaws, but it just had too many of them, and knowing even a decent editor could've fixed most of them, is inexcusable. It's a very generous 3/10 from me, all going to McDonough who was the only one that did anything to hold up this mess while it was drowning.

OK, the good points:
1) great camera work 2) good music 3) some great actors
the bad points:
A) shockingly poor story B) totally unbelievable characters C) WAY too slow D) simply nothing to get invested in.
How on earth did something this bad every raise the budget to get made?

Who makes this stuff?!
Low budget amateur hour effort from people who should have known better.
I just can't believe it.
These people should stick to whatever they were doing before they decided to make movies because they sure don't seem to have the talent for this field.
An absolute embarrassment.

So found this one along and thought it looked like a modern western and it has one of my favorite actors in Michael Cudlitz - Shout out to Gross Point Blank-
McDonough is always fun as a baddie.
POSITIVES; The cinematography was awesome. It was gritty and had a weird red vibe. It was old school with long shots and let the actors act. The sparse action scenes were cool and the f/x were solid and old school. This was definitely a love letter to old gangster films. The acting for the most part was great. Loved the Hutch role. Billy Blare was awesome.
NEGATIVES; It was billed as an action film. An article I saw said it was a western film too. It is not either. There is action in it and it was made in Texas, I think. But it's not a western. It's closer to a dixie mafia type film. Or like Justified without the action.
I didn't like the music. I appreciate what they were doing but it wasn't my favorite.
The film moves slow and that's okay for some people. But I think the way the movie preview made it look, some will think it's more action.
Overall really cool little gangster film. Some gritty moments too.

They don't make good movies and they are jealous of the ones who do. Not good and obviously stacked with fake ratings just like the rest. Give it a pass and thank me later.

Your wife might even like this one, too, because it has Neal McDonough in it! Something about him really flips their love muscle!
Sure, the plot has been done - it's the quintessential story about a burnout hitman who grows a conscience and simply cannot kill for hire anymore. In this case, his target is a young man, Dash Melrose as Motley Adams, who does an excellent job in this role - he reminds of a young Patrick Dempsey ("Run"). Michael Cudlitz menaces as Jed Haywood - the boss - while Billy Blair menaces all as Hutch, the loyal psychopath tasked with managing Boon, who is clearly having a "bad day on the job".
I know you won't see this one at the Oscars, but I bet you watch it all the way through once you start it. My advice? Pack a lunch and plan to stay a while - this is a fun ride!
PS - also checkout the sequel, "Boon" - it's even better.

Nothing positive to say about this. Slow, terrible acting, annoying unnecessary music, unoriginal plot. Such a shame the ratings on IMDB seem to be untrustworthy these days, this was showing up as 5.6 the day I decided to watch it, barely got halfway through.

I was surprised to watch BOON and then this one to discover that the same actor played the very same character, what a coincidence. This is an agreeable action flick with an ambivalent lead hero, as the same character will be in the sequel BOON. But the ending of this one seems to be the actual sequel and not the sequel which on the contrary seems to be the prequel...Follow me? Good directing, and as I said for the other film, don't be too hard with this kind of production, it s smooth and not without a certain charm, a B rural western thriller, action thriller. I will get tired of this kind of stuff.

I guess all those folks complaint about the slow pace of the movie are that kind of moronic audience that expect running car chases and gun fight all over the place, some slow budget version of Die Hard or The Dukes of Hazard, so they don't look and ask for what happens in the film. Is good to see an American film that escapes of that cinematic non-sense violencewich all the time presents on every film.
The film is on the surface a film of criminal chasing a witness. I guess that explains that negative reaction of some morons. Well, thewy have to deal with that, and move on to the next chasing-cars-and-shooting-firearms piece of crap film.
At the bottom, the film is about crisis and redemption. Crisis of the legal sistem and corrupt officials, familiar crisis of the several characters involved: Boon (Neil McDonough) has lost his mother and nevertheless he has to pursue a witness, Motley Adams (Dash Melrose), who not only saw how a mafia lord, Jay Haywood (Michael Cudlitz), kill his brother, Danny Adams (Dominic Scott Kay), but how local Sheriff Quincy (Jason Douglas) is coluded with Haywood, who also has to deal with his new born grandson, and so on.
Yes, is not Road to Perdition, but is a good one flick, and the story has to be the way is told, slow and away from today mainstream violence films of American cinema. If you aren't a moron, you will enjoy this film by what it is, instead of waiting for spectacular car chases and all that ridiculous and unbelievable stuff Hollywood give to the audiences everytime.

I can't stress enough how bored I was watching this film. This wannabe John Wick picture fails in every part of the process of movie-making and that is why I mostly blame the director Derek Presley for the disappointment this film is. Except for Neal McDnough (who is doing what he can to save this picture) every character/actor seems bored, confused and actually bad at acting. Than you have the story itself with many random unexplained scenes and long slow camera shots, which I believe were an attempt at some more "refined" camera work, but felt like the director forgot to say "cut!" instead. Maybe with some editing it could have been salvageable, but as it is I cannot recommend it.

I love Neal as an actor. As a producer, he should have demanded more from the cast & writer/director. Feels like it was rushed to be made & released. Real studios take time to let a project finish properly. Various plot points left my head itching. Most referenced in other reviews.
The one that did me in, right near the end, was when Mot was stuck in the back of the Sheriff's SUV. The sheriff went in to talk with Jeb, leaving Motley alone in the back of the car. Mot tried to escape out the rear doors, but the Sheriff had locked them. There was NO cage in the car. All he had to do was climb over the seats and open a front door. They kept calling Motley "smart" throughout the movie, but couldn't climb over the seats. Dumb kid.
Anyway, if you're a McDonough fan, it's worth a watch. If not, PLEASE watch something else!

Poor story line
Poor acting
Poor directing
Basically a nothing film, no real story line. Low budget film with an even lower budget cast.
Not one actor will make it big time.

Loved everything about this. Loved McDonough
Was it slow paced? Yes.
But that's what i like. It was remeniscent of old crime films that took their time to build. Really cool look. The kid who played the main character was good.
Cudlitz rocked it as a baddie and i wish he did more films.
The cast was solid and I personally loved the cinematography and the music.
If I had one complaint it would be that I thought there would be more action but again, I didn't really care. The story was great and I was definitely on the edge of my seat.
Not bad at all for an indie!

The name of director Derek Presley didn't actually ring a single bell. After looking at what exactly he has done, it doesn't really seem at first that this is going to be a good movie. Anyway, sometimes appearances can be deceiving of course and then we give this film the chance. Starring, we see Neal McDonough, who previously starred in films like Minority Report and Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City. Incidentally, he also played in the series Band of Brothers together with Michael Cudlitz who also plays in this film. Cudlitz will be best known for his role as Abraham from The Walking Dead by the way, which he did very meritoriously at the time. The rest of the cast will probably be in some well-known films, but it doesn't immediately ring a bell and in the end that's not really important.
At the opening of the film you can immediately see from the camera work and the use of color that this is nothing more than a B- film. The story is very confused and often makes no sense at all. Jed is a locally dark figure who shoots a teenager named Danny Adams for something. We do see that there is some ruby in the game, but that's all we know about that. His young brother Motley sees the murder happen and Jed puts assassin Boon on the case that the young teenager has to find and get out of the way. Sounds exciting, but the action scenes are scarce and in my opinion the film bets too much on deepening a too simple story and too many extremely uninteresting dialogues. Boon also walks as if it were a gangster who ran out of the 30s and this does not fit into the picture of the Texan setting of the film.
Fortunately, it doesn't get really annoying. The acting is solid, but the whole setting just looks too cheap. This makes a lot of scenes feel very staged and it is difficult for you to move and empathize with the characters of the film. But also because there are hardly any bystanders to be found in the film, even if they are in the city center, it seems like a ghost town. As if the main characters from the film are the only ones living in that area. Really drowsy also characterize the film. Young Motley just steps into someone who is constantly after him who just says he is from the FBI. He doesn't show identity papers, nothing at all. But also that Boon's later criminal partner shoots someone in cool blood to death in a parking lot, takes off his mask and a grandmother is fooling him who looks full of his face. He puts on his mask when she goes in and continues his way.
Red Stone is not a annoying movie, but certainly not a good movie. You can see right at the beginning of the film that you are dealing with a B- movie and that doesn't have to be a problem, because there are plenty of B- films to list that are really good, but this film is not one of them. The setting is dull and the 30s gangster suit in which Boon does his job as a hitman through a ghost town in Texas does not fit the picture of the film at all. For the rest, the story is confused and there is almost no rope to tie. If you then think that the movie is bulge from the action, you will also be disappointed, because the action is quite scarce. As a viewer, you also have to be able to arouse sympathy for Boon, but this really doesn't work anywhere. Of course Boon gets remorse and turns against Jed in order to come to terms with himself.

Slow motion torture, dragged out for maximum excruciation so that there's no way to watch this without playing the fast forward button like a drum and you can still follow the plodding idiocy. It's all made worse by Boon's plastic deadpan mannequin-like caricature, the five minute conversations that add nothing to the plot which oh so annoyingly follows an idiot kid who is just an incredibly moronic fool frozen with fear and stupidity. He runs away and then goes and waits for the shadrools to find him in the middle of the road. The loooong takes of nothing happening with no discernable significance are truly insufferable.

A movie with no motivation whatsoever that adds nothing to the genre, being very predictable, flat, and mediocre in its entire premise.
"Red Stone" is a completely boring proposal, as it loses itself with each scene or absurd moments where credibility is not an option, a method, or an alternative. I have no doubt that the viewer loses the slightest interest in finishing this film. She herself tries to be great, but the result is unfavorable.
Director Derek Presley delivered a terrible execution, leaving many loose ends and very meager filming sequences that fail to make an impact at any moment. That constant attempt to add different approaches in each scene is negative and counterproductive.
The movie has a simple concept, but through its executions, it loses the "interest," and they don't accompany it either. Perhaps with better concepts, the experience would be "a little better," but it should be mentioned that both the cinematic execution and the performances are very weak.
Neal McDonough (Boon) has a terrible performance, and from my perspective, he is the one who does it best. The actor doesn't save the movie, nor does he deserve this. That role of personal conflicts, mental lapses, redemption, they didn't quite hit the mark. Totally wasted.
Now, Michael Cudlitz as Jed Haywood is a total madness from the negative perspective. It's incredible how much his acting level declines. It doesn't contribute anything interesting, and it's simply one of the worst things the film can have. Super debatable.
"Red Stone" has a flat script, its narrative arguments are glaringly absent, it contains a great deal of nonsense, plot holes, continuity errors, and poorly choreographed action scenes (written with kid gloves) and undoubtedly does not convey its reflective messages well. Convenience is present at all times.
