The idea reminds me of "Revolution" by Eric Kripke and Jon Favreau and Sci-fy legend J. J. Abrams. Ofcourse since its a german production it can't meet the high standards of a hollywood production.
But since "Revolution" is not so well known outside the channels of the Pro 7 media group and the topic "Blackout" is around in heavy rotation since the last months the idea meets the "Zeitgeist".
What "Blackout" does better is focussing more about the main topic and its effects. And ofcourse a big difference is: While the Kripke-serie "need to get the power back on" is more about civil war and american perspective this serie is mainly about effects in Europe. Something that wasnt covered by the us series atall. And I think its a good idea but could have needed improvement. Especially since this here is a bit to political in IMO. But still not bad for german production.

--- Those who read the book will be very disappointed. Many interestting facts and story parts were discared and new parts were created just to fill there voids with no connection to the original. I couldn't get myself to watch more then two episodes. The book was sadly put in a bad light. Too bad, the book had such high potential! Maybe one day we will get a hollywood great movie version of the book or one of Mark Elsberg's other books.

'The most surprising thing about Blackout is that Germany would turn in to a post apocalyptic nightmare in less than 4 days.'
Hell yes! That's what studies expect to happen actually after 72hrs.
The effects are researched quite well and embedded well into the story. But of course it doesn't make everything right.
Pretty good for a German production and binge-worthy.
It's a gripping take on what a large-scale power outage could do to modern society, and it makes you think: how prepared are we, really? And it is also a chilling reminder of how fragile our infrastructure is... surprisingly good.

I really liked the book, but the show made many things that are well explained in the book look very unlogical. If you can handle this, the show is still a good production with interesting characters. It is a good show for two or three boring evenings during a lockdown. Nothing special, but good entertainment.
Started well but then it tracked out. I really hope politicians and the police in Germany are smarter in reality.
Otherwise some good acting contributions.
