Intense and observational, this feature debut is a mesmerizing character study. A lonely teen seeks freedom and independence as he fears losing his mother's affection and care when she brings home a new mate. Disturbed and intimidated by the man's presence, the kid becomes increasingly rebellious and out of control, expanding his reaction over the melancholic world of his own. His intimate and attachable relationship to his mom deteriorates as his behavior make things impossible. A sensation in Sundance this coming of age tale is heart moving and inclusive. Beautifully shot, humanistic, delicate and thoughtful. Very easy to relate if one has ever lived in between parents, and never found the right balance of parental love.

A Mexican drama. It is about a 13-year-old teenager who lives with his divorced mother and the brutal shock he has when she has a new boyfriend, unleashing the war between him and him, while fighting with himself. It does not look for stereotypes despite being a movie with a story that we have seen hundreds of times. It masterfully shows the journey of being a teenager with Oedipus syndrome, wonderfully posed. The few well-worn nudes. Characters that show everyday life as it is. Baffling. Amazing. Explorative. Dry Slightly parsimonious. The performance-introduction of Adrián Ross is spectacular. The soundtrack, the camera game, the direction well done. The interpretive ending and some situations will leave you wondering. If you like movies that offer more than just entertainment or you are a psychology student, this movie is for you.
