This is brilliant

I can't remember the last time I was so invested in a TV show. I was hooked from the first episode, and constantly impressed with the directing, visuals, acting, and plot developments. It's like a cross between Black Mirror and 1984, but it might be better than both of those works of art. This is truly something special and I COULD NOT be more excited for season 2.

On another level!

I can't even describe the show. It's unlike anything I have ever seen.

Remember that feeling you had after watching The Truman Show or The Sixth Sense for the very first time? The feeling that you had experienced something unique? It's the exact same sensation Severance gave me. It's odd, it's smart, it's fresh and I loved every single minute of it. It's the best writing and acting I have seen in years.

Every episode makes you hungry for the next one, and the next one, and... well, you get the point. All I can say is, stop scrolling through these reviews and go watch it, because you're in for a treat.

To me it's a masterpiece

If you think about it in a deeper sense the Severance corporation is a metaphor of for how trapped workers are in their job, that's my theory. I love it all I'm surprised a few hated it something about waiting for something that's ridiculous or they know the nothing, seems to be a buildup and a lot to learn about the series regardless the show is magnificent! The thriller aspect is glorious and I'm a couple episodes in. When the show first released it had a 7.2 and jumped to 8.2 that's well deserved!

Brilliant!

I had no idea what to expect when I first starting watching Severance. It not only lives up to all the hype but surpasses it. As you can see from the reviews and ratings here, people loved this show and I'm no different. I have to warn you though that's it's addicting once you start watching this and you'll want to binge it as quickly as possible. It's just such a thoughtful, original show that will have you guessing throughout the show. Along with the acting and writing the visuals are just great here. I literally can't find one negative thing to say about this incredible show. You'll have a blast watching this.

Very Original

I loved this Apple + series very much. First of all, the subject is very original and high quality. The acting is just perfect. The script is great, the music is great. The episodes progress slowly, but they are always exciting, and the season finale was simply great. I can't find anything else to say. I'm waiting the other seasons...

Waiting for Mark...

How I would love to go home after work and not remember a damn thing! If that was the case, work attendance would be at an all time high. With no stress or anxiousness about work, you'll just show up, because that's what you are paid to do. But that's the pros, as for the cons...

Without giving away too much, the first 2 episodes achieve putting the viewer into the mind frame of the characters who take on the bizarre act of Severance for a large secretive corporation. The viewer is then given enough interest and mystery to latch onto with a drip-feed of vital information in this beauty of a slow-burner. Overall it is an Orwellian-Kafkaesque mind teaser with a hint of Beckett's Godot dialogue. The perfect ingredient for a modern trippy journey into the unknown corporate dystopian...

This could be the start of something great. **Update, from 8 to 10 by ep 9. Next big hit show if sanity still prevails these days.

Edit* Episode 9 S1 is one of the greatest TV eps I've seen from a serialised show, still telling the story but it shines so much brighter. Ben Stiller directed it personally. And deserves awards and recognition for it.

Only two episodes are out. So I'm going to keep this very short for now and update with a full review at the end of the series.

All I'll spoil, because I went into the plot blind before watching. Only going by the actors/director, stiller is still one of few unique film makers in hollyweird that can pull in great actors and decent budgets. This is series unlike anything airing and has great potential to be considered one of the greats of offbeat irreverent dark comedy series ever. Can't wait for the world building.

Just give this one a chance, so far it's not political or effected by the real world. It's a universe unto itself. And I love it so far.

Impressive

I expected a comedy because of who the lead is , the first minute in you can just feel this show has immense quality behind it there has to be a team that actually cares about what they put on the screen. The first 3-4 minutes gives you a scary idea of the world of the show and I loved it. The direction is simple but the tone , writing score and atmosphere is perfectly done .

As good as everyone says it is!

Severance is every bit as good as everyone says it is. All you have to do is read through the reviews and look the rating to see how much people think of this series. It's on every "best shows of 2022" list out there for a reason and will absolutely be nominated for a ton of awards! Adam Scott leads an amazing cast who all do a fantastic job. It's just such an original show that will keep you wanting more. The first episode may start a little slow for some but stick with it because I promise that you won't regret it. If you stay with it I guarantee it will become one of your favorite shows of the year. I'm so glad they already decided to pick it up for future seasons!

separating your mind means separating the you you are

"Severance" is one of the most disturbing shows that you'll ever see. The sad thing is that so many corporations do this sort of thing to people, turning them into mere cogs in the machine.

Definitely see it.

It's so slow. It's so boring. Season 2, what's wrong?

I was thoroughly impressed by the first season of Severance; its unique concept and suspenseful storytelling kept me eagerly anticipating each episode. However, the second season has been a letdown. The pacing has slowed to an excruciating crawl, making it difficult to stay engaged. Scenes feel unnecessarily prolonged, and the plot seems to lack direction. The once-intriguing narrative now feels diluted, overshadowed by excessive focus on atmosphere rather than meaningful progression. Unfortunately, this season fails to live up to the high standards set by its predecessor. 10 stars to 1season and 1 to second one.

Just what the doctor ordered.

I was ready to completely give up on episodic shows and then this happened, an actual diamond of a show among formulaic, recycled, regurgitated, pandering piffle. The production design and cinematography is inspiring and the cast is excellent. Narratively speaking, it's about as engaging and compelling as anything I'd consider a "best" example of any screened entertainment I've ever seen. Which means, it'll probably not be renewed for a 2nd season because it's just too original and interesting for American audiences.

Season 2 is slow

Not gonna lie, the first season was a ROLLERCOASTER of emotions. It moved at perfect speed, leaving me begging for more at the end of each episode. It is in my top 5 favorite tv shows based on season 1 alone.

Then, something happened. Season two came along and did an excellent job of story framing and gap filling in the first two episodes. After that, it feels like the last 8 episodes could have been condensed into 4 episodes. There was SO much filler and "artistic" shots that lasted far too long, in my opinion. One of the things I love about this show is that they don't hit it too on the nose with information and explanations. They use a ton of inferences and a "connect-the-dots" approach to help you gain an understanding of who we are, where we are, and why we are here in the story.

That said, a MASSIVE amount of information was either left untold, OR it went right over mine and my partner's heads. I know there are some theories online about what Cold Harbor really is and what it all means, but unless there's a season 3, we are extraordinarily disappointed in the season 2 finale. If this is the end of the series, what a colossal failure it was to end the show in the way that they did. I would have given a perfect 10 had they answered the BIGGEST detail I was dying to know. Maybe they get off on that...maybe it was intentional to play with my emotions and curiosity like that. If so, well played, BENNY STILLS!

Still, 8/10.

Season 1 and it's an instant classic

Following "Severance" for the past two months as each weekly episode drops reminds you of just how wonderful it is to witness things as they unfold for the first time. Well-cast, brilliantly-directed and edited, with one of the most spellbinding opening sequences in recent TV history, "Severance" is the perfect blend of Sci-fi, human interest, mystery, dystopia, and dark comedic undertones. "Black Mirror" is the only comparison that comes to mind but that show falls under the anthology category, therefore "Severance" is quite unlike any TV series you've ever seen before. As the mystery unfolds, you can't help but think about the layers upon layers of possibilities and various implications. While the early episodes may appear ho-hum, buzzing slowly, they are actually intricately developing each textured character if you pay close attention, positioning you for a satisfying payoff. Every actor stands out in their own right, from the trusty lead Adam Scott to veterans Patricia Arquette, John Torturo, Christopher Walken to Tramell Tillman as Milchick, my surprise favorite. This show is complex, and so for those who have not seen this yet and want to be entertained (Defiant Jazz!) and mentally stimulated at the same time, I recommend not waiting much longer to start S1E1!

Offbeat and interesting!

Very interesting show, it's always unsettling and you never feel like what's going on is normal. There's always so many things that you are questioning and it keeps you engaged and interested. There's some dark, offbeat humor mixed in as well. Great acting and music and an offbeat unsettling style, very excited for the rest of the series.

This. Is. Incredible.

There really aren't enough positive things to say about this potential masterpiece of art. I want to go on record as saying if the show manages to keep this quality up for it's entire run length, this will be the first show I have watched since Breaking Bad to be as close to perfection as possible.

Admittedly, things start off slow and drag slightly with the first episode. Fear not though, because Severance picks up with an increasing amount of drama and mystery, climaxing perfectly with a season finale that balances that fine line of leaving you wanted more, while quenching your appetite to remain satisfied until Season 2.

Every metric you can measure and judge a TV show on is on display with absolute mastery. The casting, acting, script, direction, cinematography, lighting, set decoration.. everything is perfect.

Actually I noticed a running theme for this review I've written is the word "perfect". So I'll leave you all with that, and watch the damn show already.

George Orwell's "The Office"

The office workers for a mysterious and somewhat creepy company have all had their minds split into two, with their 'work' lives and 'home' lives having no knowledge of each other.

-------------------------

Just finished watching the first season of this, and it's been a real find. Nothing life-changing or even completely original, but a very, very good show, well-written, directed and acted the whole way through, with Tramell Tillman and Patricia Arquette coming out tops at stealing most scenes they're in, but Christopher Walken and John Torturro are splendid, too. Every character is intriguing and believable, and the revelations of the parts we get to see of their other lives all make sense and successfully propel the story along in ways that never feel manipulative or cheating.

If I were to try describe the experience of watching it to someone I would probably say it's a bit of a knock-off of various Charlie Kaufmann films - particularly Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - pitched somewhere in the vicinity of The Truman Show or Westworld, if Westworld was any good and still liked the human race.

If there's any downsides, I would say it probably could have done a little more with the human ramifications of the process, showing us in greater detail what the severed characters were feeling and how the world appeared to them in this confused and diminished state. And I also think they could have told the story a little faster: I don't have great hopes that the quality will remain this high into further seasons, and I would have rather they made it a complete, standalone miniseries instead. Having said that, I'll be definitely be counting the months till it returns.

I want more

Smashed the first two episodes and look forward to more. Looks amazing and feels claustrophobic, there is a real visual separation between the work and home self. Dialogue is witty and sharp, the fact that Ben Stiller directed this blows my mind. Great TV to kick off 2022.

So close to being so good.

I wanted to like this show so bad. Every episode I was telling myself "well this is where things are really going to get interesting-"

Two seasons/19 episodes later and I'm sorry but this show simply isn't worth the hype. It could've been a captivating mini-series. But instead the writers take their one or two interesting ideas and spend the rest of the show milking suspense out of hours and hours of filler. The oddity gimmick loses it's flavor quickly, and the characters simply aren't compelling enough to make up for the sluggish pace in story progression.

Which is such a shame because there are incredible actors, amazing cinematography, and more than enough seeds of fascinating ideas that easily could've filled the time. But you spend far more time anticipating something interesting watching this show than actually watching something interesting.

As much as I wanted to love it, the potential simply isn't the reality.

Do not watch if you care about coherent plot

Seething. I am seething. The kind of fury that simmers in your veins, that claws at your throat until you have to scream into a pillow or rant into the void of the internet. How could they do this to me? How is this hollow, unraveling mess of a show rated so highly? How did it earn accolades, fan theories, and breathless praise when its foundation is built on fecal excrement? I feel cheated. Betrayed. Because there was potential here. So much of it. A concept that hooked me instantly: a bold premise ripe with existential dread and moral ambiguity. The music is haunting, atmospheric, and potentially iconic. The acting? Nuanced and committed, with performers who were committed to the material. And it was visually stunning, but none of that matters when the writing-the core, the soul of the thing-just... gives up.

The first few episodes were masterclasses in tension, with intriguing and immersive worldbuilding. The cracks start small, almost forgivable, near the end of the first season. A dropped subplot here, a missed character beat there. You brush it off, assuming the showrunners are playing the long game. But then the second season arrives, and it's like watching a slow-motion car crash. Every episode feels like a taunt, a deliberate refusal to resolve, to explain, to care. The plot doesn't just meander-it disintegrates. Mysteries pile up like dirty laundry, unanswered and reeking of laziness. They dangle these questions just out of reach, banking on your addiction to the idea of answers rather than delivering any. And you realize, with dawning horror, that they're making it up as they go. There's no grand design, no payoff brewing. Just a void dressed up as depth.

The pacing is glacial, not in a tension-building way, but in the manner of a student padding an essay to hit the word count. Scenes drag and moments that are supposed to be climactic fizzle into pointless confusion. Characters who once felt layered devolve into plot devices, merely fulfilling a role in the plot instead of being consistent with their character. Relationships and desires are pulled out of thin air instead of sparked with genuine chemistry. And all the while, the show leans on its aesthetic and soundtrack like crutches, as if mood alone can substitute for substance. It's infuriating because it could have been great, and now it's not even good. What a waste. The squandered talent. The actors deserved better material. The composer's work deserved a story worthy of its emotion. The cinematographer's haunting visuals deserved to serve a narrative that went somewhere. Instead, we're left with a beautifully shot, impeccably scored, brilliantly acted... nothing. A void. A black hole of squandered potential that sucks in your time and patience and gives back only frustration

Worst of all is how popular this show is, and it is because they drip-fed this weak plot to build hype. And when the finale arrives, a wet matchstick of resolution, they have the audacity to tease a third season. As if we haven't learned our lesson.

And yet, it's rated 8.7/10, the final two episodes 9.7 and 9.5, it's a phenomenon. And I'm left seething, screaming into the echo chamber of my own disappointment: How? Maybe that's the real horror story here-not the show, but the collective delusion that lets this remain relevant.

1984 big brother

4 episode in and just wow, every character and every scene just screams 1984. In a good way, because thats one of the best novels to ever be.

Its true, some of the scenes are uncomfortable to see, but we should see! Because this acting is a somewhat reflection to our lives and our jobs with capitalism dominating everything and destroying every meaning of live and make humans a semi robot who separates their lives from their work!

The concept of the show is kinda freaky, will you as a fully-brained human, willingly sentence a part of yourself for slavery for 8 hours a day?. To you it doesn't feel a thing like a small nap and you still have 2/3 of the day to live. But for that part of you it seems infinite, always working! The literal definition of slavery!
