Exclusive: Jada Pinkett Smith (The Matrix Resurrections) has signed on to star in Redd Zone, a new Netflix drama from Emmy-nominated screenwriter Kristin Layne Tucker (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Oscar-winning director Matthew A. Cherry (Hair Love) and Westbrook Studios.

Based on a true story, Redd Zone follows Tia Magee (Smith), a single mother who steps forward to help her sons and their high school football teammates, “The Bros,” heal after the murder of their best friend, Dominic Redd. One by one, The Bros start moving into her house, and soon 17 are living under her roof. Eventually, all The Bros go to college, with four making it to the NFL. The film is dedicated to Redd’s memory, and to the powerful impact he had on his community.

Exclusive: CAA has inked Girls Trip and The Matrix franchise star Jada Pinkett Smith for representation in all areas.

Currently, Pinkett Smith is the host and executive producer of Red Table Talk, Facebook Watch’s #1 show, with more than 300M views. She hosts the series alongside her daughter, Willow Smith, and mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris. Pinkett Smith recently attended the Sundance Film Festival to talk about the show.

Pinkett Smith’s film credits, which also include Magic Mike Xxl, The Nutty Professor, and Set It Off, count $4.4 billion at the global box office. She will next star in Millennium Films’ Angel Has Fallen, the third installment of the Olympus Has Fallen series which opens in August via Lionsgate/Summit.

She has also starred in multiple TV shows, including Hawthorne and Fox’s Gotham as crime boss Fish Mooney.

T. J. Thyne, best known for his role as Dr. Jack Hodgins in Fox’s long-running series, Bones, has signed with The Green Room management company. Formally at Industry Entertainment, Thyne appeared in over 200 episodes alongside Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz from the shows premiere in 2005 to its finale last year.

Before landing Bones, Thyne recurred in the Showtime series Huff, My Wife and Kids, and WB’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off Angel. On the film front, he has appeared in indies like Jada Pinkett Smith’s The Human Contract and The Pardon opposite Jaime King.

Daniel Escobar, who was best known for playing a teacher on Lizzie McGuire, died last Friday in Los Angeles from diabetes complications. He was 49.

In addition to his recurring role on the Disney Channel series, Escobar reprised his character alongside Hilary Duff in the 2003 Lizzie McGuire movie. Escobar also had a recurring role on the ABC comedy Dharma & Greg as a waiter named Lorenzo.

Adam Lamberg and Jake Thomas, who costarred with Escobar in Lizzie McGuire, both took to Twitter to express their sadness at learning of his passing.

CSI actors are doing a little shuffle, and actor Ted Danson will benefit. No stranger to television, Danson has been promoted to the head of the crime lab in Las Vegas.

It wasn’t so long ago The Matrix actor Lawrence Fishburn found himself starring on the long running crime drama. This fan thought Fishburn would replace the character of Grissom to lead the team, but it was veteran actress Marg Helgenberger who stepped up as Grissom’s replacement. Helgenberger was in recent casting news, too, as her contract is ending and this may change her to only part-time status on the show. As for Fishburn, he is saying good-bye to the series altogether.

So, season twelve was looking pretty slender, but, cheer up, there is a pretty new CSI coming aboard and Ted Danson comes to CBS as a transplant from Portland.

Ted Danson and Vinessa Shaw have joined the cast of "Everybody Loves Whales," a Working Title project that Ken Kwapis is directing for Universal.

Set in Cold War-era 1988, "Whales" tells the true story of a small-town reporter (John Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who enlist the help of rival superpowers to save three majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle.

The pic is based on Tom Rose's nonfiction book "Freeing the Whales: How the Media Created the World's Greatest Non-Event."

Danson is one of Hollywood best-known environmentalists, but in this pic, he plays a win-at-all-costs oilman who has no interest in saving the mammals. Shaw plays a White House staffer who wants the government to help the whales.

Kristen Bell and Tim Blake Nelson already have been cast.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have filed legal papers in Los Angeles in an effort to avoid a cash plea from a former business partner. The Smiths claim the man who financed a movie Jada wrote and starred in is threatening to sue them over what he claims was a "guaranteed" return for his investment - and they're not to blame for the failure of the film, called "The Human Contract".

The project, which went straight to DVD, made no money. The Smiths insist they never promised to pay back investors, and, according to TMZ.com, they want a judge to declare they're not liable for the investor's lost cash.

Although they find failure in "The Human Contract", Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have scored their fame in some big movies. However, Jada recently revealed that her husband seriously considers to leave the spotlight by moving into politics.

The Matrix Reloaded star admits the Hollywood couple is looking for the perfect project for them to tackle together - with Pinkett Smith behind the camera calling the shots.

And she reveals Hancock actor Smith was keen to take the lead role in 2008 drama The Human Contract - which Pinkett Smith wrote, directed and starred in herself.

But they decided against working together on the project to prevent marital arguments.

She says, "Will wanted to do The Human Contract. He loved the male character but it.s so outside anything he.s ever done and we decided it would be best if he didn.t so that we would stay married!

"(But) that would be one of my dreams - to direct Will, but I don.t know if it would be in a big blockbuster. That.s not my style."...

Jada Pinkett Smith is returning to television as the star and executive producer of TNT's drama pilot "Time Heals."

The project, penned by Emmy winner John Masius, centers on Nancy Hawthorne (Pinkett Smith), a strong but caring director of nursing at Charlotte Mercy Hospital in North Carolina, a single mother who always puts the pain of others first.

In addition to starring, Pinkett Smith will exec produce "Time Heals" with Masius and Jamie Tarses. Sony TV is producing in association with Pinkett Smith's 100% Womon. As a procedural with a strong female character at the center played by an A-list actress, "Time" fits nicely with TNT's crime dramas "The Closer," starring Kyra Sedgwick, and "Saving Grace," starring Holly Hunter.

Pinkett Smith co-starred on the NBC comedy "A Different World" for two years before segueing to features.
