Delightful Aussie movie of two brothers on a journey

This a lovely relaxing afternoon film of two brothers on a 500 mile journey to Melbourne on foot in order to realize their dream and make their fortune, at least make a living - but things don't turn out as expected along the way. the film explores conflict guilt and brotherhood. There are no twists and the story is sort of predictable but there is nothing heavy sexually or violence wise in the movie and the whole thing is completely watchable. The director Matthew Holmes plays one of the brothers Thomas (the other one is William or Bill. The film is a couple of years old now but I hadn't heard of it and I found it to be extremely entertaining, OK slow placed but that went along with the mood of the story.

Pleasantly surprised

The debut feature film from Matthew Holmes delivers a beautiful coming of age story that leaves you thinking of the decisions you make in your own journey.

Mateship at its best

Avoided watching this movie for some time on the basis it will just be another poorly acted Australian soap. Came away thinking this is one of the best movies I have seen.

It is hard to believe that this great movie was made without external financial support and instead relied on the assistance of 300 volunteers and community organizations including vintage car clubs.

All of the actors provided believable presentations of their characters. Just came across as ordinary people living in the times of 1939.

This movie not only confronts the issues that so many Australians faced during that period (1939) of the great depression but the settings in the towns, on the sheep stations and along the dusty roads give a real picture of what Australia was like at the time.

Simple but poignant themes of mateship, young men growing up, following dreams and the truth of how significant people come in to and pass through lives often leaving the seed for further development.

A story told that people of all ages can relate to.

Another brilliant movie from Matthew Holmes

By chance I came across The Legend of Ben Hall and fell in love with Matthew Holmes work and consequently was excited to read about the digitally remastered Twin Rivers. I had never seen this movie nor heard of it but immediately contributed a small amount to help this project along the way. I was not disappointed. The authenticity of the story, the settings, the costumes, hairstyling etc of the era were first class, well and truly above most current and past local TV and films. The local dance was a highlight as everyone and everything looked so perfect for the time. The cinematography of our beautiful southern gum tree country was extremely moving. I am obviously not a film reviewer but an oldie who loves her country and films that truly show the pearls of that great country. It is a real Australian story and not a fantasy like many modern films. This is a film, as is the Legend of Ben Hall, that deserves distribution Australian wide plus!

Not good, not bad

Very good story. What lets this picture down is poor editing as some things are not explained fully, some poor acting by the female lead, the obvious rivalry of brothers taken from "A River in Though it" , along with the narration. An ok movie where you won't regret watching but can't help think you could have watched something better.

Awesome Aussie film with stunning scenery and a great story line

Was lovely to sit back and watch Twin Rivers. Another great Aussie film by Matthew Holmes.

Depression during 1939 was a terrible time for a lot of families and to see that Thomas had a dream that he wanted to pursue. Then having his brother, William, wanted to help his brother with his dream.

The struggles they both endured, plus finding love and jobs along the way.

This film captured me from the very start with amazing views of the country side, music, adventure, struggles etc.

A very emotional film which really pulls at your heart strings.

Excellent film! Can't wait to see what else Matthew Holmes produces. He has amazing talent and vision.

Pleasent surprise.

Twin rivers is a very good movie. It is a story of the road taking place in outback Australia. This film has an entrancing mood, set by stunning locations, a good story and the chemistry of two brothers. Supporting cast characters are strong and bind a mixture of impressions that linger long after the credits have rolled. Although made on a shoe string budget Twin rivers remains a thoroughly enjoyable film throughout. This movie deserves a place among some of Australia's finest.

A gentle masterpiece

I came across this movie by accident and I am so glad I did. Every thing about it was handled gently but realistically. The colours of the scenery, the locations, the costumes were restrained and gave the story much more impact and much more reality, It was heartbreaking but enlightening to learn of the actions and emotions of an era not that much in the past. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey I was taken on and think Mathew Holmes is a genius to accomplish so much with so little. I want to see what else ha has done Loved it!
