But first he must find the right partner. Enter Daniel Woods, the young American boulderer who is one of the strongest humans but lacks mountain experience. Daniel-San travels to Japan to prove himself worthy of Hirayama's mentorship.

After Woods demonstrates his raw talent to Hirayama, the pair travel to the island of Borneo to conquer and establish new routes on Mount Kinabalu. While the brutal conditions 13,000 feet above sea level challenge both student and master, Woods and Hirayama wake up day after day to climb hard and push the limits of the human body to its farthest reaches.

Mount Everest made headlines around the world in Spring 2013 when Ueli Steck and Simone Moro, one of the strongest duos in alpinism, were attacked by a crowd of angry Sherpas at Camp 2 while attempting a cutting edge new route on the highest- and most crowded- mountain in the world. Fearing for their lives, the climbers fled the mountain.

Across the Americas and Europe, Sharma discovers and climbs the most improbably rock formations, until he finds the ultimate challenge: a massive rock arch rising out of the Mediterranean Sea that he will attempt to climb without a rope, crashing into the waves below if he fails. If he can climb the arch, it will be the most difficult rock ascent ever achieved.

After attempting the formidable Mediterranean deep-sea arch, Chris Sharma knows he must hone his skills in order to complete his dream first ascent. Sharma travels to Venezuela and to the boulders of Bishop, CA to develop the prowess needed to ascend the deep-sea arch, before returning to his ultimate nemesis for his attempt at glory. King Lines was filmed over three years, in order to document Sharma's entire journey.
