An anime that can't decide what it wants to be.

Interesting and Unusual

You know how in a lot of anime the main character is a boy somewhere around 12 to 15 years old, just hitting puberty. He's got a good heart but he's kind of a loser. He's socially clumsy. He gets bullied and he never really fights back but somehow, he always comes through in the clutch. That's how our hero is in this series in the first episode, except that he is 17. What follows is not a spoiler because it all happens in the first episode. By the way, the anime starts somewhere around the third chapter of the manga. The anime just sort of starts in the middle. There is no real explanation of what is going on other than a few hints. It's a fairly obvious plot. You've seen it plenty of times. A high school class is suddenly sucked into another world where they must fight monsters and demons. You don't really see that happen. It is sort of alluded to in flashes. The story really starts when the boy-hero falls into an abyss. There he manages to survive long enough to eat some monster meat. This gives him more powers. He then uses his newly acquired powers to kill more monsters and acquire more powers. In the meantime, he comes to believe that the world has always had it in for him and his only course of action is to become ruthless and to take what he wants without compunction. He becomes single-minded in his desire to win at any cost, and yet there remains a deeply buried sense of good. It's very unusual for an anime boy-hero to be this decisive and to put his decisions into action without hesitation, even if those actions contravene accepted norms of social behavior. The title word means mundane, ordinary. That's what the boy-hero is at the beginning but he certainly doesn't stay that way long.

My First Thoughts

Episode is good but the cgi is bad, information was skipped but besides that I hope the later on episodes don't make the same mistakes (know that the cgi will still be bad

Was really hesitant at first, but it turned out to be pretty awesome!

The first episode wasn't really that great, it was a bit too predictable and the animation was bad, particularly for the monster fight scenes. However, it got steadily better. The MC was pretty awesome and feels dark, sort of like Naofumi from Shield Hero. To be perfectly honest, Arifureta seems like the love child of Shield Hero and DanMachi, but with bad animation and some awkward but funny fanservice. However, its story was pretty good and intriguing. Can't wait for season 2!

Had great potential but turns to crap at ep6

This series had great potential, starts off really serious and dark but the tone completely changes from episode 6. They obviously tried their hand at commedy/harem but failed miserably to deliver anything funny or thrilling.

The character design is really nice, but everything else looks like grey goo with uninspired design and one of the worst animation I have ever seen.

I read that the manga is fantastic, but the anime failed to find its identity and couldn't stick to a genre. If I was to ignore the horrible animation for the first 5 episodes, it would get a very strong 8/10. The rest barely qualifies as OK time killer.

Slow rhythm

This really doesn't seem like anyone's cup of tea to be honest. But I didn't mind it so much. The animation isn't a problem for me, as it is for some. So if you're not too picky on that, then you won't be bothered by that supposed flaw.

UNIQUE IN IT'S OWN WAY.

Enjoyment wise, Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou does have an enjoyable start, which gives you a hope that Hajime Nagumo is going to become a new, interesting protagonist that has his ideals, desires. And as we all know everybody has a different opinion.Rating wise I was thinking it will turn out to be a bad anime but it still kept me entertained. As I said everybody has different opinion for some people it is good and for some people it is not.

Overall it's still worth watching ,don't let the rating fool you. It's 6.6 but still it is better than that. And the opening is full English to be honest.

Very nice all in all

Finally a straight edge main hero who displays some good judgement. As when he finds a certain someone sealed in a heavily guarded dungeon he's like: "ok, there must be a reason for this" and is cautious. So good to see this, as opposed to predictable boring anime-style: "oh no this person is locked up, we must help him/her no matter what, how or when".

Another plus is that the anime is fast paced. There is actually progress. Bang bang and they are on floor 100 already. Not like black clover for instance where you'd be stuck on 1 floor with 20 fillers and 15 flashbacks stretched over 30 episodes.

It's also nice how the main hero does actually kill monsters instead of the usual silly mumbo jumbo you can expect in other anime: "oh no we must let everyone live no matter what blah-blah".

The only major letdown is how the big monsters are drawn out and animated. Almost painful to watch. You are left wondering what on earth happened there, did they not have enough budget for that or time (or likely both). Well, you'll see for yourself

Finally they actually kiss in this anime instead of acting like children are found in cabbage all the time. This to me is a big plus, adds emotional depth to the show and is a refreshing differentiation from what we see almost everywhere else.

Decent but could be great without such a painfully unlikable main character

This anime is really well animated and has a very good concept but the main character is so horrible. He's a nasty pos to almost everyone he meets for no reason! Fair enough give the main character a bit of an edge but this is way too much

Simply one of the Greatest Isekai, Harem, Action, Adventure, Magic, Fantasy Anime of All Time

Of all the Isekai, Harem, Action, Adventure, Magic, Fantasy Anime I have so far, Arifureta is simply the in the Greatest list for me. If you are a Isekai, Harem, Magic, Adventure Anime Fan, you must watch this anime. The protagonist is OP but his personality is different from other similar type of character. You will find him and his beloved girls interesting. I just wish there were more episodes in anime like this one. It was too short for me. I hope season 2 comes up soon.

Cold blood

The animation was among the issues. The fact that all of the creatures were created using computer graphics annoyed me since it made them appear strange and uninspiring. I will give them credit for that because I did enjoy the character designs.

The beginning is the second. Although I have read the first light novel and plan to read the others shortly, the beginning of the show was very different from that of the light novel. The anime began when they were in the new world, which is not how the light book began, therefore they didn't include any new content that wasn't already in the light novel. The light novel opens with them attending their school; anime doesn't really depict them attending classes, and I believe that was a mistake.

If you were adamantly against the first season, you won't like the second one either. Less edgelord, less awesome ass pulls, less coldblood Hajime moments... This season, all the elements that set Arifureta apart from previous harem power fantasy isekais are less noticeable. I was mostly drawn to the first season for this reason, thus I am really disappointed. It pleased me that Hajime was able to grow from his mistakes and become an OP edgelord. He is still there in the second season, although it is much less obvious.

Revenge to the best

A very good revenge story. Doesnt deserve the hate it gets, very underrated. Is on top with a few isekai's.

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest

When a class of high school children are transported to a fantasy world they all gain powerful magically powers... apart from Hajime Nagumo; a boy who is bullied because of his relationship with a popular girl. He just gets some basic alchemy powers. One day, betrayed by one of his classmates he is pushed into an abyss. He does not die. Feeding on some of the monsters in the depths he gains strength. He later meets Yue, a vampire; Shea, a buxom rabbit-girl and Tio, a perverted dragon-girl. When he learns that the god responsible for bringing him to his world is actually a despot he determines to defeat him. Along the way he'll meet his old class; this time he is more powerful.

I thought this was a decent enough isekei series. It may be fairly cliché with its protagonist gaining impressive powers and a mandatory harem but it manages to provide a decent story with characters I cared about. There is some fairly unsubtle fan service; some may find it excessive... those it is aimed at will probably enjoy it! The characters are good and the animation is fine. Overall I'd say that while this may never be considered a classic it is worth giving a go if you like the genre.

These comments are based on watching the first three seasons in Japanese with English subtitles; I assume there will be more.

disjoined story with massive pacing issues !

I found myself stopping and restarting this show because it was so mind numbing I was finding it hard to focus on what was going on.

First up it does the old "out of order" /flashback storytelling which is good when your content is compelling, here not so much it just makes it muddled and hard to follow.

It will often have an entire episode that is nothing but fluff like a bossfight that just goes on and on and on and on and on and then maybe has 30 seconds of anything meaningful to push the plot.

Show, your edgelord guy isn't compelling enough to carry the whole show on his back using fighting skills alone.

The artstyle is bad, its mostly the same copy paste gloomy dungeons filled with terrible quality 3d monsters, some of the anime characters are cute though.

Most of the characters are boring, the main character screams bellows talks to himself in a way that is cliche, not new or entertaining.

The whole show feels like it's treading water, lacking plot and mostly just boss fights, example episode 5 rehashes the first 4 episodes and one of those episodes is just a boss fight ... why ? #padding #filler

Now the elephant in the room or metal spike "in" a dragon as it were in this case, I can't believe it was part of the same show, it's super wrong but actually plays into the characters personality kinda works, is played for laughs and the only reason I gave it any stars at all.

This one is maybe watch season 1 pisode 9 otherwise Skip it.
