Although originally planned to be marketed as a remake, "Train (2008)" (2008) will not share the storyline of "O Trem do Terror (1980)" (1980) but will completely make up a whole new story that follows in the suit of graphic torture films such as "O Albergue (2005)" (2006), "O Albergue 2 (2007)" (2007), and "Turistas (2006)" (2006). The only thing that "Train (2008)" (2008) and "O Trem do Terror (1980)" (1980) share in common is the train setting, although the original plan was to call Thora Birch's character Alana Maxwell, the same name used for Jamie Lee Curtis' role in "O Trem do Terror (1980)".
"O Trem do Terror (1980)" told the story of a vengeful killer seeking revenge among a fraternity that played a cruel-hearted joke on him years beforehand that landed him in a mental institution. The killer attacked on New Year's Eve during a costume party being held aboard a train, where he would take the disguise of his latest victim. "O Trem do Terror (1980)" was more of a mystery horror film and had very little blood. It starred Jamie Lee Curtis, Ben Johnson, Hart Bochner, and David Copperfield.
"Train (2008)" follows a path of more recent movies, including the "O Albergue (2005)" series, where this time around American Athletes in Europe board a train that happens to be run by psychopaths who enjoy murdering and torturing people who take their train. It will star Thora Birch, Gideon Emery, and Derek Magyar and will be more of a bloody, disturbing, and brutal film.

Train was originally given an NC-17 rating by the MPAA. In order to get the financially more attractive R-Rating the film had to be censored in terms of violence. Unfortunately, this cut version was later released DVD and Blu-ray in the US (and in the UK and other countries like Japan as well) only.
Surprisingly, the French DVD and Blu-ray have a longer version and although there is no official listing for it being the uncut NC-17 version, one can be almost certain that this release contains it. As expected, the uncut version had to be censored in various gore scenes in order to get the lower MPAA-rating.
