Rift

My husband took me to see the teaser and when he said it was a horror I was expecting to sit through another of his kind of horror films i.e.stupid teenagers with lots of gratuitous blood, guts and violence thrown in. I was fortunately very mistaken!I am glad I saw this first as it is good not to have anything to compare it to. Taken by itself, I think it is a fantastic film. It's not everyone's cup of tea and the usual horror fans may think it slow, incomprehensible or just plain unscary. However, I loved the mystery and weirdness of it. One thing that I think really robs horror films of their ultimate "horror" value is when you come to the explanation/discovery of what's behind it all at the end. I thought the film had let itself down with a typical, rationalised ending. I was very pleasantly surprised with the horrifying twist that developed and I loved the eerie "non-ending" ending - it left me really freaked out and actually believing that the whole thing might be real after all. It is wonderful, psychologically terrifying stuff and I defy anyone to watch it and forget it - I am still thinking about it and giving myself the shivers months later! I won't give any film 10/10, as this is the ultimate and I am always challenging for there to be an even better film out there I give it a superior "must see" 9/10.

I don't have much to say except this- once all those Hollywood movies that rely on a CGI creature/monster, tons of blood, gore, and fake, sudden scares are long forgotten, this one will definitely stand out. This is a dramatic, moving, and nonetheless truly frightening psychological thriller. I enjoyed this teaser better than any other (the reason being- its beautiful score and stunning performances from Richmond Arquette and Darcy Fowers) This is not your traditional horror movie, this is what movies is all about. P.S You'll enjoy it more if you watch it on a DVD system, in the dark, by yourself, on the biggest TV set you can find =]

I couldn't believe when I saw this flick and jumped on IMDb to see the user reviews there was nothing but praise, it didn't make any sense! It does make sense if you had some kind of connection to the piece though, one reviewer mentioned it's a great movie to have friends over and scare each other, I think my friends would be skeptical of my intelligence if I invited them over to watch this rot, they certainly wouldn't be coming to another movie night at my house!

Absolutely awful movie, boring drawn out storyline, no good action, if you can handle over an hour of bad actors yelling I'm cold or where's Ricky (something like that I can't even remember any names they were that useless) then this movie is for you but if you like something that seems like there was any thought put into it at all I'd give it a miss.

why is it that the actually exceptional movies get low "scores" here, whilst the generic cliché-ridden ludicrously ineptly plotted "no-brain required" idiot-catering pap gets rated high??? i'm seriously considering basing my viewing choices on how LOW a movie is rated here or rotten tomatoes etc. This movie for example blew me away with it's plot style & integrity, as well as its camera angles, as if they'd taken the best of every recent TV & movie "style" then created their own disturbing (in the "good way" ie, applicable to the genre) take on their usage thereof. The acting was well above average, sublime even in parts, believable even in its occasional lower points (few & far between). The soundtrack fitted perfectly their twist on the "college kids in horror movie" scenario, all in all a refreshing & thought inspiring diversion from the run of the Hollywood grist mill that, again, for some reason i cannot fathom, gets generally much higher ratings than gems such as this. i wonder if IMDb would consider adding a "lowest rating movies" section or search engine parameter, it would save me heaps of time in finding worthwhile movies to actually Enjoy.

From beginning to end this movies is an amateur production. The acting is terrible with the lead female actress delivering a buffoonish performance with no spectrum of emotion or depth. Details are laughable - for instance the female lead picks a heavy padlock with a hairpin in 10 seconds. Locations seem to be the homes of cast members with cheap banners and signs identifying them as vital sites in the story. The plot itself might have served to make a fairly good horror story but the production is a disaster. The special effects are not all that special which detracts from the believability of the movie. I enjoy a campy bad film and even a generally bad film that has some good points in the plot or cast, but this film has neither. All in all the only thing I can say about Rift is that it is genuinely a BAD FILM!
