I am old enough to have seen the original 2 Christopher Reeve Superman movies, and the idea of combining them is great. Henry Cavill is a better Superman, Amy Adams is a better Lois Lane, the script is far stronger, the baddies are more believable, I honestly can't understand the negatives; with the exception of the first 20 minutes, which just didn't work. A great attempt, far better than most DC movies, except the Nolan ones.
Feeling like a breath of fresh air, 'Man of Steel' is a noble and sublime effort by director Zack Snyder. With a detailed and well structured first act, the underlying knowledge behind the history and reasoning for the main protagonist is fully defined and understood.
Henry Cavill plays the role perfectly, seeming content in the character. Amy Adams is okay but the film doesn't devote enough attention for us to care about her. Michael Shannon is a fine overactor but is not given good enough dialogue.
The CGI for the most part is some of the best I've ever seen. It's top tier mastery of visual effects and it is incredibly beautiful.
Some minor nitpicks here and there, largely in dialogue, but it is a strong contender for my favourite superhero movie.

It's a great solo film for such an iconic character. And the backstory was revealed and enough time was devoted to the destruction of the native planet, and the conflict with new and old roommates was revealed. And all this in a little more than 2 hours of time.
Excellent visual components, starting from a rather gray color scheme for the sake of realism and ending with camera work and editing. The sharp camera approaches in action scenes are just wow.
And Zimmer's music, which sounds almost throughout the film? The title theme alone is worth it.
It's a shame that we couldn't raise enough money with this start and had to move too fast in subsequent films, which, as we know, didn't benefit the universe right now.

So we are looking at essentially a remake of Superman (nothing wrong with that).
So how does it compare? Favourably.
The original is perhaps a little softer, more romantic and more idyllic whereas the remake is darker, richer and a little more interesting.
2 changes that worked for me, the origin part of the story on Krypton which is much more expansive (creating more of a universe feel, literally) and the extended character of Superman Senior. Brando was the quintessential sci-fi 'head in a bottle' character using him to explain Supe's back story in the original, Crowe's character came full combat ready and I think it added well to the overall story.
Really enjoyable effort that sits well as a representative of the DC universe :)

I was really happy with the origin story aspect of this movie... although I would have liked to see more of Kevin Costner's character. I didn't see this until New Year's Eve 2020 and had heard a lot of comments about the movie... positive land negative. Exceeded my expectations.

- CuriosidadesHenry Cavill refused to take steroids to muscle up for the role. He also refused any digital touch-ups or enhancement to his body in his shirtless scenes. He said it would have been dishonest of him to use trickery while playing Superman, and he wanted to push his body to the limits, to develop his physique into one that was worthy of the character.
- Erros de gravação(at around 1h 3 mins) When the ships arrive and broadcast the message to the world, multiple cities across the planet are shown, but it is nighttime in all of them.
- Cenas durante ou pós-créditosThe Warner Brothers, Legendary Pictures, DC Comics and Syncopy Inc logos are shaded steel gray and appear in swirls and bends of Kryptonian metal.
If you look closely, the Warner Brothers, Legendary Pictures and DC Comics logos have Kryptonian writing.
