Nick Jonas
Nick Jonas is closing the deal to star as Paul Stanley in the Kiss biopic, Shout It Out Loud
Nick Jonas
Nick Jonas will be rock and rolling all night, and partying every day, as Kiss singer Paul Stanley in the music biopic, Shout It Out Loud. Shout It Out Loud is set to be produced by STX Entertainment and it was reported months ago the studio is talking with Lionsgate to co-finance the project and distribute it worldwide. Darren Lemke (Shazam!) penned the most recent draft of the script. Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation director McG will be helming this biopic. McG has also shown his dramatic prowess with the film We Are Marshall.

Deadline is reporting that Jonas brother, Nick Jonas, is looking to be putting on the face paint as Kiss frontman Paul Stanley for the film. The project was initially going to be set up at Netflix with Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale) directing, but the project turned around to be put back on the market.

Kiss Biopic Just Tapped This Jonas Brother To Play the 70’s Rock Band’s Lead Singer
Image
Another iconic rock band is getting the biopic treatment. Nick Jonas is set to star as KISSlead singer Paul Stanley in Shout It Out Loud. The project will be directed by action maven McG, in what will be the director's first biographical film since the 2006 sports drama We Are Marshall. Deadline reports that the film is expected to begin production in late 2025 or early 2026.

Jonas will reportedly do his own singing in the film, which will dramatize the formation and early years of the band before they became arena-rock legends. Jonas certainly has the experience to do so, having risen to fame with the Jonas Brothers band, and later performed solo, with his own band, Nick Jonas & the Administration, and on stage. However, he will apparently need some time to practice replicating Stanley's unique vocalizations. That will give McG time to cast bassist Gene Simmons, who will be the film's other lead character,...

Matthew McConaughey’s 37% Rotten Tomatoes Desert Adventure With a ‘Silo’ Star Mines Gold on Streaming Charts
Image
Matthew McConaughey’s first movie in over five years recently debuted at SXSW to a stunning score of 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but one of his older films has been stealing the spotlight lately. McConaughey stars alongside Silo Season 2 veteran Steve Zahn in Sahara, the 2005 desert adventure following a master explorer who hunts for a lost Civil War battleship in the deserts of West Africa. Sahara has been streaming on Paramount+ for a while now, but the film recently surged into the streamer’s top 10, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. In addition to McConaughey and Zahn, Sahara also stars Penélope Cruz, and it earned a low score of 37% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 53% rating from audiences on the Popcornmeter.

Sahara came at an interesting time in Matthew McConaughey’s career. He was still nearly 10 years removed from earning his first Academy Award nomination,...

The drama might’ve ended, but we’re still obsessed with where everyone ended up. If you ever wondered what Peggy, Roger, or even little Sally Draper are doing in 2025, you’re in the right place. Warning, this may spark a sudden urge to rewatch all seven seasons. Martini not included.

The 10 Best Female Actors In Hallmark Christmas Movies, Ranked
Image
If you watch a lot of Hallmark holiday movies, you'll notice faces that reappear over and over again. Hallmark is nothing if not reliant on safe, predictable storytelling, and this tendency extends to the people they hire to act in their made-for-tv films -- once you've proven that you can provide a stable, likable presence in a lead role, they'll keep on booking you.

But while Hallmark male stars need to personify whatever romantic fantasy Hallmark is selling -- whether that's sensitive, or caring, or supporting, or rugged, or good at fighting fires -- their actresses have an altogether different responsibility. Since a large portion of the Hallmark viewership is made up of women, these actresses need to be aspirational and, above all else, relatable. We need to be able to see ourselves in them, which isn't as easy a task as it sounds. So when they find a performer who can do it well,...

The 10 Best Male Actors In Hallmark Christmas Movies, Ranked
Image
Thanks to the sheer number of holiday films Hallmark releases every year, the network has built up quite a stable of artists. Some of these actors appear in just a few Christmas movies between other projects, while others have essentially built a career around their work with Hallmark. And while it's easy to look at the ads for Hallmark holiday movies and see a variety of plug-and-play, generic brunettes, each of the channel's leading men has their own niche and strengths that they bring to their performances.

Some are best known for playing the reluctant prince of an unknown European principality who ends up romancing a small-town American girl, while others are better suited to play ruggedly handsome Christmas tree farmers or small business owners who woo career-oriented gals from the big city with their rural charms. Just like snowflakes, no two male Hallmark stars are quite alike -- and...

John Mayer and McG to Buy Historic Jim Henson Company Lot
Image
The historic Jim Henson Company lot, which started life as Charlie Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles, has found a new buyer: John Mayer.

Yes, the singer-songwriter behind “Daughters” and “Waiting on the World to Change” has partnered with filmmaker McG to purchase the sprawling lot, located in the heart of Hollywood at 1416 N. La Brea Ave. The contract is in final negotiations as of Monday night, TheWrap has learned.

Mayer recorded his excellent 2021 album “Sob Rock” at Henson Recording Studios, part of the same lot, and filmed a performance video for “Last Train Home” (from the “Sob Rock”) album there.

Watch that recording below:

McG is best known for directing the “Charlie’s Angels” movies starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore, along with “Terminator Salvation,” “We Are Marshall” and this year’s Netflix YA epic, “Uglies.”

Earlier this year, TheWrap exclusively reported that the lot was up for sale.

Terminator Salvation (2009) – What Happened to This Movie?
Image
After the still entertaining but undeniably sillier Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the Terminator franchise was ready for salvation. But what would be the next step? Arnold was fully engulfed in his political career; James Cameron would rather remake Piranha 2 than return; and per the usual for this franchise….no one even knows who owns the rights! This is What the F*ck Happened to Terminator Salvation.

A bit after Terminator 3’s release, both Nick Stahl and Claire Danes were recast to return as John Connor and Kate Brewster in the next installment of the franchise. Jonathan Mostow (director of Terminator 3) was also involved and helping with the script but a retread of Terminator 3 sounded dreadful. On top of that, the rights situation was once again a mess…. After months of fighting, lawsuits, and distribution hassles…. the rights to the franchise were again sold. This time,...

5 Years After Lost, Matthew Fox Headlined This Western Horror With 91% on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
It's been nearly a decade and a half since the TV phenomenon known as Lost came to its conclusion, and even though not all the show's cast members have managed to maintain that same level of brightness in the spotlight that the show had once allowed them, some have gotten extremely lucky. When fans think of the show's most successful cast members, names like Evangeline Lily and Daniel Dae Kim are sure to come to mind. However, even though Matthew Fox has taken an extended hiatus from acting, it's impossible to deny that he, too, has certainly had one of the most successful post-series finale careers. While his acquired film credits are small, they've been pretty impressive, from We Are Marshall to Speed Racer. It's Bone Tomahawk (the last major film he appeared in), however, that has become arguably his most popular one.

With the American Western having made an...

McG Reopening The Lido Theater As New Operator Ahead Of Newport Beach Film Festival
Image
With nearly a quarter of a century in Hollywood, McG is returning to his Newport Beach roots.

The Uglies director’s River Jetty Restaurant Group has been tapped as the new operator of The Lido Theater as it reopens following a restoration to its original Art Deco design, just in time to host screenings for next month’s 25th Newport Beach Film Festival.

“I grew up in Newport Beach and have a lot of great memories of The Lido,” said McG in a statement. “It’s one of the coolest things about Newport, and I love the idea of giving back to the community by bringing in eclectic new programming. I’m excited to help usher in a new era of entertainment at The Lido, especially now that it’s been restored and is more beautiful than ever.”

Born in Michigan, McG (real name Joseph McGinty Nichol) grew up in Newport Beach,...

Lionsgate Has Something to ‘Crow’ About — It’s #1 on PVOD; McG’s ‘Uglies’ Leads Netflix
Image
Lionsgate has seen a run of bad box office luck: “Borderlands,” “The Crow,” “1992,” and the just-opened “The Killer’s Game” combined have only grossed $30 million among four new films opened in the past six weeks.

“Uglies” continues the recent string of Netflix original movie successes. From director McG, the YA novel adaptation about a society where standardized personal attractiveness is compulsory was an immediate #1 this weekend on the streamer’s top movie list.

In its Sunday spin on first weekend results, Lionsgate often says that, despite weak numbers, the company is in a position to end up making money — and due to financial positioning and post-theatrical platforms.

With “The Crow” debuting on PVOD last Friday, they may have an argument.

Despite only being out for three days, the reboot of the 1994 Brandon Lee-launched film series is #1 on Fandango’s top 10 VOD chart (which covers a full week). The at-home viewing platform calculates by revenue,...

Kimberly Williams-Paisley Shares Vocal Cord Surgery Success: “I’ve Found Power In Using My Voice”

“I’ve been going through a thing,” the actress’ Instagram post caption begins. “Almost two years ago I lost my voice on stage at my Alzheimer’s event in Nashville. It was embarrassing & scary & it never quite came back. It’s been a challenging couple of years, but we finally got to the bottom of it.”

Lost Cast & Where They Are Now
Image
Lost is a popular American television series that aired on ABC from 2004 to 2010. The show follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious island, and it features a large ensemble cast of characters. The series featured many actors who are still working in TV and film. Josh Holloway, Evangeline Lily, and Dominic Monaghan have all been in some of the biggest movie franchises ever made.

Part of what made Lost an enduring popular cultural phenomenon was its talented cast of actors, many of whom went on to appear in a variety of other television series and films. As an ensemble series that aired for six seasons, Lost provided nearly every prominent character with multiple episodes that explored their lives before and after Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on the island. This narrative framing gave the actors numerous opportunities to explore their characters in-depth as the story delved into their troubled...

January Jones Slams Virtual Auditions: ‘It’s Time for Casting Directors to Come Back Into the Office Like Everyone Else’
Image
January Jones took aim at virtual auditions on Saturday, writing on her Instagram story, “Note to Hollywood: It’s time for casting directors to come back into the office like everyone else. To audition actors in person.”

The “Mad Men” star continued, “And if anyone asks for a Fee to audition please know that this is criminal and Pathetic. I personally have had to self tape several times since the pandemic began and there is zero benefit to it for anyone involved. It’s time consuming, expensive, and a drag to whomever you have to drag in to read with you (sorry Mom), and is often done with zero direction/notes.”

Since the pandemic, self-tapes have remained a common way for actors to audition for roles, rather than auditioning live in front of casting directors.

“I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for an actor just starting out...

‘The Godfather’ 50th Anniversary: Why Gordon Willis Changed Cinematography Forever
Image
“His influence will never wane; there simply isn’t anyone who’s any good who isn’t standing on his shoulders.”

That’s what Steven Soderbergh wrote about Gordon Willis, the cinematographer who changed the American cinema forever with his work on Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather.” Though other filmmakers had used some of the same techniques as Willis — John Ford and Gregg Toland made extensive use of practically motivated light sources on “The Long Voyage Home,” and many noir films experimented with placing their characters in darkness — the revolution didn’t really take hold until he applied the approach to what became one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies of all time.

“The Godfather” celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and Willis’ work continues to inform the ways in which cinematographers approach their work; look no further than Greig Fraser’s character and psychology-driven lighting on “The Batman” for proof.

‘National Champions’: A Sports Film Tackling Compensation For Student Athletes
Image
Photo: 'National Champions' Despite being someone who isn’t a football fan, there are plenty of football-related films that I have enjoyed. From comedies such as ‘Leatherheads’ and ‘The Replacements’ to dramas such as ‘Remember The Titans’ and ‘We Are Marshall’, there are numerous films revolving in the orbit of football while remaining entertaining for someone like me. The new film directed by Ric Roman Waugh ‘National Champions’ has almost no on-field action in it. It is actually about the absence of football. HBO Max Added Over 120 New Movies Today For June
HBO Max has a major job on its hands to justify its approximately $15 a month subscription fee, especially given the strong competition out there from established names like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Disney Plus faced a similar challenge last year in arriving onto an already-saturated streaming marketplace, but at least had the advantage of major series like The Mandalorian to promote. While HBO Max will eventually be home to the Snyder cut of Justice League, and has some originals for its first week of availability, the big draw right now is its enormous back-catalogue of movies.

Given the various corporate elements that are going into HBO Max, including the Warner Bros. library, owners AT&T will be hoping that the combination of brand recognition for HBO programming, and a deep bench of movies, will convince people to add a new subscription to their list. To this end, HBO Max have added 122 films today,...

Michaela Coel in I May Destroy You (2020)
HBO Max New Releases: June 2020
Michaela Coel in I May Destroy You (2020)
Welcome to the HBO Max era! WarnerMedia’s streaming giant arrived on May 27 and is absolutely bursting with Warner movies, TV shows, and other titles. But time waits for no man or streaming service and each new month HBO Max will be expected to bring new content to the table. Things get started in June 2020 with the first batch of HBO Max new releases.

To be clear, the majority of the original series coming to HBO Max actually belongs to HBO. Shows like I May Destroy You (June 7), Perry Mason (June 21), and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (June 28) all belong to HBO…which now just happens to be a part of HBO Max. Confusing stuff, we know, but rest assured that if you have HBO Max you’ll get these shows…and if you only have HBO, you can go ahead and just get HBO Max for the same price anyway.

Netflix Is Making The Babysitter 2 With McG Returning to Direct
In a new report from Production Weekly (via Cb), we have learned that Netflix has placed the order for a sequel to their 2017 horror comedy The Babysitter. Director McG is coming back to helm the sequel, but a new writer, Dan Lagana, is said to be coming aboard, replacing the previous writer, Brian Duffield.

The first film was left open with the possibility of a sequel, as the babysitter, Bee (Samara Weaving), who is actually an immortal witch, was hit by a car driven by the kid in her charge, Cole (Judah Lewis), but when the cops showed up, Bee was nowhere to be found. So she shall live to babysit again, I guess.

I don’t remember this movie coming out, but it must have made a big enough impression to get a second one made. Did you enjoy the first film? Are you excited for a second one?...

Spotlight On The Stars: Matthew McConaughey
For the latest spotlight piece, I wanted to return to a former subject take another look at one of the most unusual A-listers that Hollywood has to offer. It’s none other than Matthew McConaughey, a unique star in the business. Up until recently known as a talented but easygoing movie star, he’s since undergone a career transformation that’s not just made him one of the most sought after actors around, but one of the most acclaimed as well. He’s entered the second phase of his career and could reach the stratosphere before long. McConaughey already has an Academy Award under his belt, and it’s not folly to think that Oscar could cite him again real soon. McConaughey got his start by stealing his scenes in Dazed and Confused. In fact, that first theatrical role gave him some instantly quotable dialogue and really established him as...

Joseph Baxter May 6, 2019

Netflix has teamed with director McG for alien invasion sci-fi adventure film Rim of the World.
