Happy is an unofficial remake of Tami film azhagiya theeye. While azhagiya theeye was a simple and realistic romcom, happy is its commercial version with lots of masala added.
Its the story of Bunny(Allu Arjun) and Madhumathi(Genelia). Bunny is a young boy from vizag, who came to study in Hyderabad and work parttime as a pizza delivery boy. Madhu is a medical student who is the daughter of a caste politician. Madhu's ambition is to study hard and become a doctor which was her dying mother's last wish. Both of them occasionally bump into each other and don't get well together. Things take a turn when Bunny mistakely puts a love letter meant for his friend's lover in madhu's book and her father finds that letter. Madhu's father hastily fixes madhu's wedding with DCP Arvind (Manoj Bajpai). Realising his mistake,bunny decides to cancel this marriage by meeting the DCP. But within seeing him, he frightenly says that he and Madhu are in love with each other. When Madhu too agrees to what bunny said DCP refuses the marriage. But afterwards, madhu's father comes with another alliance for her. After knowing this, DCP makes bunny and Madhu marry in register office. Bunny and Madhu mutually agree with this marriage temporarily. After marriage, DCP makes them stay in a flat together. Rest of the movie is how bunny and Madhu actually fall in love.
Happy is a clear example of a well made commercial film. All the ingredients- comedy, romance, action, songs, dance, emotions were blended well in this. The villain track of Kishore you may feel as some separate story. But in the way that track is blended in the climax is brilliant.
Allu arjun dance fights and performance(in climax) was considered his best at that time. Songs were very lovely.
I am an Allu Arjun fan from Kerala. Though happy is allu arjuns underrated film in Telugu, in Kerala it is the most loved film of allu arjun. After the success of arya Malayalam dub, happy was dubbed in malayalam. It was a smash hit in Kerala. Happy not only strengthened allu arjun's fan following in Kerala, but lead to a slew of dubbed Telugu films in Kerala.
