Although Fox only aired eight of the thirteen episodes produced, they released the five unaired episodes on DVD along with the aired episodes and the unaired pilot.
The real Point Pleasant, New Jersey is about a mile from the ocean. A separate town, which is on the ocean, is called Point Pleasant Beach.
The show was not actually shot in the New Jersey town. The town itself is also not as affluent as depicted in the series.
The episode "Unraveling" features a shot of a bus which Christina is on driving past a sign that reads: "Now leaving Point Pleasant. Please come again." This is a reference to the final shot of the second season of Buffy: A Caça-Vampiros (1997), a show on which Marti Noxon was a writer.
The show was said to have caused a stir of controversy with beliefs, and might be too inappropriate for television, which was thought to be part of the cause for lack of ratings & prevented them from finishing the airing of the season.
