This film is included on a DVD entitled "Shorts: Volume Three". Oddly, I have seen volume One already and Three is definitely much better--though both are worth finding for lovers of short films like myself.

This film shows a boy named Daniel going about his daily life. He seemed like he's depressed, as he doesn't join the other kids in sports and his emotions are very flat. The next day, he pretends to be sick so he can stay home from school. However, after his mother leaves, he sneaks off on a cross-country adventure.

This film really sneaks up on you, as it starts off very slowly and quietly--plus, you really aren't sure what's happening because the context for what you are seeing isn't revealed. However, the film makers did a great job in establishing a mood--with an excellent but stark piano score and excellent film work. Instead of worrying about what's happening, just sit back and watch--the film ultimately packs a very emotional wallop.

Exceptional in every way.

I found this film while voting for the Cloud 9 Short Film Festival, and for that I am glad. This independent film by Johann Brisinger is one of the most poignant and heart-tugging short films I have ever seen. The story is beautifully written and shot, capturing the emotion and mood of the film. There is minimal dialogue, but that is perfect for a film like this, where the expression says everything. It starts out with the boy going through the everyday motions, but escalates to something so much deeper: the justification of life. You will be intrigued and touched by this story of a boy's journey to meet two strangers and their self-discovery. 10 stars.

The only reason I'm not giving "Passing Hearts" a 10 is because I don't believe there is such a thing as a perfect film. But this one came pretty darn close. A short film with brilliantly crafted nuances and effectively directed subtle performances that rang true from the opening shot. "Passing Hearts" is an inspiration to film lovers and filmmakers alike. If I were a voting Academy member, I would have given it an Oscar nomination without hesitation. The color palettes were extraordinary, as was the restraint in shot selection to tell a simple story. As a filmmaker myself, I can only hope to one day make half the film that "Passing Hearts" is.

touching is the first word for define it. but , maybe, its basic virtue is the simplicity, the only right way to tell a story about a boy, a visit and a hug.and, about life, in fact, like a kind of poem. important is the state after the final credits. a mix of joy and tenderness. and this does special this short film. the looks, the hug, the words, the way, the room and the touch of objects. and the sound of beating heart .
