‘Alien: Earth’ Boss Noah Hawley on Making That Eyeball Alien Even Creepier in Episode 4
Image
It’s not easy to create an alien that can compete for your interest with a Xenomorph — which is arguably the greatest cinematic monster of all time.

But Alien: Earth writer-director-producer Noah Hawley hit a home run with at least one of his four original alien creations for his FX series with The Eye — an highly intelligent ever-starring eyeball with sucker-tipped tentacles that burrow’s into a victim’s head and then uses its body like a puppet.

And in the fourth episode of the show’s first season, “Observation,” Hawley managed to make the creature even more unsettling by having a scene where Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin) and Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) conduct an experiment by letting The Eye infect a sheep — which now has a highly creepy all-knowing stare.

The sheep, by the way, was partly played by an actual sheep (which, of course, was not harmed).

We asked...

28 Weeks Later (2007) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
Video link

28 Days Later was a surprise hit with critics, audiences, and the box office alike because it came out of nowhere and felt like no film ever before it. An astounding feat all on its own, but even more so when you consider it did all this as a zombie movie. Well, they aren’t zombies. But you get what I mean. When it was over, and that plane flew over Jim, Selena, Hanna, and their handmade Hell sign… nope… Help sign, everyone wanted to know what happened next. Not only to them… but to the rest of the world. Which left director Danny Boyle and company in quite a predicament. How do you follow up a one-of-a-kind hit film that feels like no other when there is no surprise element anymore, your lead actors, and even you yourself aren’t available due to scheduling issues? It’s...

Sandra Bullock Thriller with a Shocking Twist Is Now #1 on the Hulu Streaming Charts

Decades ago, Margaret Anderson (Jane Wyatt) had a premonition of her husband’s death on the seminal family sitcom Father Knows Best. The plotline was unconventional, largely because it not only validated Anderson’s paranoia surrounding the premonition but actually paid it off in the end. Suitably spooked, her husband skips his work trip. That same evening, the road he would have taken was washed away in a flood.

While Father Knows Best is a sitcom, the horror genre has maintained a longstanding fascination with premonitions of impending doom. The Final Destination franchise is built around the conceit, while Asian horror fare like Premonition and The Eye toy with clairvoyance with remarkable ease. Heck, even The Mothman Prophecies ultimately arrives at an augur of disaster our hero must somehow prevent from happening. Premonitions are ripe with possibilities for scares and tension, and one underrated offering starring a future Oscar winner...

Over 600 Blu-ray Titles No Longer Work?!
Image
Last Updated on March 17, 2025

When it comes to physical media, there always has to be a concern for degradation. We saw it with VHS, Cassette Tapes, and Laser Discs. Eventually they become unwatchable. DVD was supposed to fix that issue, giving us the same experience each time, and with a much longer shelf life than laser discs (which are currently dropping like flies). And judging on Bumbray’s article about Warner Bros titles, the issue is as present as ever. But those are DVDs. That’s two whole generations ago and there’s a reason we’ve since switched! What about Blu-rays?

Blu-rays were actually made with the intention of lasting 100 years. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t issues that spring up. Any discs that have two layers, such as Bd-50s (which have 50 Gb of storage versus 25 Gb for standard) are more likely to degrade as...

‘New Religion’ Blu-ray Review (Third Window Films)
Image
Stars: Kaho Seto, Satoshi Oka, Ryuseigun Saionji | Written and Directed by Keishi Kondo

The late nineties/early 2000s brought a new and highly successful era of Japanese horror (or J-horror as it is often known). It seemed like a new cult classic was released every few months, from Ring to The Eye to Dark Water to The Grudge and many many more. They all had a similar style and felt like nothing that anyone else in the World was making. And although Japanese horror has continued to impress since, it has never quite reached those levels again. Maybe New Religion can change that…

There’s a lot going on in New Religion that I feel I need to explain even when trying to give it a short synopsis. Miyabi has a tragic event occur in her life but tries to moving on, becoming a call girl and getting with a new partner.

Alba, playing Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, alongside Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd, and Michael Chiklis, was part of one of Marvel’s early box office hits, even if the film received mixed reviews.

However, her time on set wasn’t as rewarding as one might expect. She later recalled being told by film director Tim Story that her crying was too...

Skeleton Crew's Andor Reference Is A Curious Star Wars Mystery
Image
The following contains mild spoilers for "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew."

The "Star Wars" Easter Egg Industrial Complex is alive and well in "Skeleton Crew," the franchise's latest TV outing on Disney+. Whether it's old Republic "dataries," Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) pouring blue milk into his morning cereal, or the pirates of Port Borgo having Hutt clan tattoos, if you're the kind of fan who has all the galactic encyclopedias on your bookshelf, there's a lot here to keep your eyes and ears peeled for, including allusions to certain planets from previous "Star Wars" stories.

In "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" episode 2, "Way, Way Out Past the Barrier," while the kids are trying to get Sm-33 (Nick Frost) to navigate them back to their home planet of At Attin, we get a particularly curious Easter egg. 10 Terrifying American Horror FIlms Inspired By Japanese Cinema
Image
The Japanese media landscape is flush with inspired content. With swathes of entertainment mediums to be heralded, one genre stands out in terms of variety. Japanese horror is unlike any other horror genre in the world of cinema. Many movies pose surrealist concepts and existential crises, offering distinctive experiences for all audiences. Though Japanese cinema has proved to be a standout among all other forms of media, it's no surprise that a variety of American films host inspiration from such otherworldly tales.

American horror can be somewhat flavorless in some regards. These days, there is a formula that works at the box office, and producers will typically lean towards tried and true narratives to ensure maximum profit. Whether it is a slasher, otherworldly horror or a plain over-the-top monster, stateside horror rarely leaves room for interpretation. WIth that being said, there are a number of American films that have borrowed or even re-imagined Japanese concepts.

Celeborn Can't Catch A Break Why He's Missing From Lord Of The Rings & Rings Of Power
Image
The high Elf king Celeborn is a notable figure in J. R. R. Tolkien's Legendarium; but despite his stature, he only appeared briefly in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and has yet to appear at all in Amazon's The Rings of Power. One of the wisest Elves to have ever lived, the Lord of the Wood Elf kingdom of Lothlrien, and husband to Galadriel, Celeborn is one of the most powerful figures in Tolkien's universe. He's been present at nearly all the major events to take place in Arda, or the Earth, as it is known in Tolkien's stories.

In the premiere of The Rings of Power, the shadow of Morgoth is briefly seen as the Valar descends upon the Two Trees, one of the few times the First Age of the Legendarium is referenced in the TV show. Celeborn was a grown Elf all the way...

Why you should journey through The Wheel of Time books, starting with The Eye of the World
Image
The Wheel of Time series, created by Robert Jordan, is one of the most ambitious fantasy series ever written. The first book in the series, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990. Jordan wrote the first 11 books and a prequel, and Brandon Sanderson finished the series by writing the last three books after Jordan's untimely death in 2007.

In my humble opinion, The Wheel of Time is the greatest epic fantasy series of all time. There are plenty of incredible fantasy series by some fantastic authors, but none compare in the breadth of vision, depth of plotlines, and character development and advancement.

It may not be as important to the genre as The Lord of the Rings or have the gravitas of the incomplete Song of Fire and Ice, but The Wheel of Tiime tells a story on a scope that may never be matched.

'MadS' Review - A Horror Auteur Returns to His Nightmarish Roots
Image
Director David Moreau returns to horror prominence after 2008s panned American remake of The Eye and 2017s young adult thriller Seuls. MadS, which premiered at this year's Fantastic Fest, is a continuous-shot nightmare, an apocalyptic adrenaline rush at blazing speeds. Moreau returns to his roots as the New French Extremity filmmaker who shocked the horror genre with 2006s Them (Ils in French), as he conquers the ungodly task of making us believe were watching an uninterrupted shoot. MadS was filmed in five takes over five days, but youd never be able to tell. Moreaus control over perpetual motion is a one-way descent into infection-spreading madness, highlighting tremendous performances as we observe the beginnings of humanitys end spread in real time.

The Rings of Power Has Yet to Feature Celeborn, and It Makes No Sense
Image
Quick Links Is Celeborn Dead in The Rings of Power? How Does Celeborn's Story Compare Between the Series and the Books? Will Celeborn Ever Appear in The Rings of Power?

When die-hard fans of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings learned that Prime Video would be creating a prequel series, The Rings of Power, detailing the events of the Second Age of Middle-earth, most were ecstatic, despite some reservations about the adaptation. While this does not necessarily impede the renewal of The Rings of Power, avid fans of Tolkien's writings are still confused regarding certain crucial events from the books.

The Rings of Power, adapted from the appendices (outlining Tolkien's imagined history) of The Lord of the Rings novel, is set thousands of years before the events of the trilogy and primarily focuses on the emergence of the rings. However, we've only seen three Elven rings in Season 1. Despite being a...

‘Emmanuelle’ Review: Audrey Diwan’s Brave Attempt To Revive A Dated Softcore Classic Leaves A Lot To Be Desired – San Sebastian Film Festival
Image
It’s a surprise to find out that director Audrey Diwan had never seen the original Emmanuelle — a gauzy soft-porn feature that got la toute France hot and bothered when it was allowed to be shown in normal cinemas in 1974 — before she was approached to do this remake, which opens the San Sebastian Film Festival in Competition. In its day, Emmanuelle spawned a string of sequels, each reputedly worse than its predecessors, while star Sylvia Kristel became so immediately famous for taking off her clothes that the expectation blighted her entire career. It also made a huge amount of money.

But what’s most surprising about the fact that Diwan — who made The Happening, which won the Golden Lion in Venice three years ago — had not seen Just Jaeckin’s then-so-scandalous film is that this one seems to be constructed as an answer to it. Both are based on Emmanuelle Arsan’s pseudonymous 1967 novel,...

‘American Love Story’ Moving Forward With John F. Kennedy Jr.-Carolyn Bessette Season: It ‘Really Resonates Right Now’
Image
The “American Story” franchise at FX is still expanding. Executive producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, who have been working with Ryan Murphy since “American Crime Story” premiered in 2016 (and served as executive producers on “Pose”), confirmed that “American Love Story,” which recounts the story of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, will be moving forward at FX.

“We’re very much intending to [tell that story],” Jacobson told Variety during a recent interview.

“We have great scripts on that. We’re trying to figure out when it’ll land,” Simpson added. “It is a story that really resonates right now. It’s amazing. A lot of younger women are looking to her as sort of a representational icon of a certain period of time that’s really fascinating, and hopefully, we’ll be able to bring that to the screen soon.”

The new series was initially announced in 2021, along with “Studio 54: American Crime Story,...

‘Survivor’ Gets Early Launch, but CBS Moves the Rest of Fall Premieres to Mid-October
Image
CBS isn’t eager for summer to end. The Eye network has opted to push its premiere week — normally held the third week of September — to mid-October, with one big exception: “Survivor.”

The landmark unscripted series is indeed CBS’ sole September “Survivor,” premiering its 47th season on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Et. CBS will also air sneak peeks of two more entertainment series during the month: Newbie “Matlock,” starring Kathy Bates, will get an special early premiere on Sunday, Sept. 22, while new competition skein “The Summit” will also get a Sunday sneak, on Sept. 29.

But for the most part, CBS will wait until the week of October 14 to take the bow off its fall 2024 primetime package. In doing so, it runs the risk of competing for attention right when the presidential campaign could be at its apex.

But the network is hoping that an extra month of promotion during...

Now You See Me 3 Release Date Finally Revealed After 9-Year Wait
Image
Now You See Me 3 is set for release on November 14, 2025. The sequel will hit theaters over nine years after its predecessor. With very little competition surrounding it and the long wait for the third installment in the franchise, Now You See Me 3 seems primed for success.

With nearly a decade gone since the magical action franchise last graced the screen, Now You See Me 3's release date has finally been revealed. Primarily led by Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco and Woody Harrelson, the franchise revolves around a group of magicians known as the Four Horsemen who use their performances and skills of deception to rob corrupt billionaires and give the money to their audiences. Now You See Me 3 has languished in development hell since 2015, finally gaining steam in late 2022 with Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer being brought on to direct.

Deadline has brought word that Now You See Me 3...

Despite facing controversies and review-bombing, the series remains a global talking point, with fans eagerly anticipating each new episode. Recent developments in the series have sparked intense fan discussion, particularly moments that challenge established canon. However, Episode 5 marks a potential turning point for the series, featuring a significant Jedi massacre orchestrated by The Master. The impact of Episode 5 has led fans to draw comparisons with another popular Star Wars show, specifically “The Eye,” the sixth episode of Andor. Many online discussions highlight similarities between these two episodes, which we will explore further below.

Wheel Of Time Season 3's Story Makes Another Forsaken Member Getting Cut More Likely
Image
Evidence suggests The Wheel of Time series has cut some Forsaken characters from the show, shaping the narrative differently. Possible exclusion of Be'lal from Season 3 aligns with book adaptation choices, reducing the odds of his appearance in the show. Be'lal may be one of the easiest Forsaken characters to omit, as his early death limited impact and character development.

Details about The Wheel of Time season 3's story help in identifying which members of the Forsaken are being cut from the show. At this point in this narrative, the evidence that Prime VIdeo's series has changed the number of Forsaken in The Wheel of Time's world is overwhelming. In Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books, it's well known that the Forsaken comprise 13 powerful channelers. But in the show, all signs point to there only being eight members of the group.

The number of Forsaken statues shown in a season...

‘We Go On (Remastered)’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Clark Freeman, Annette O’ Toole, John Glover, David Bickford, Justin Carpenter, Jay Dunn, Edwin Garcia II, Laura Heisler, Terry Kaye, Logan Kishi, Peter Lucas | Written and Directed by Jesse Holland, Andy Mitton

Phobia-ridden and driven by a sense of existential dread a man places an ad in the newspaper: prove the existence of life after death, win thirty thousand dollars. Of the many replies he receives, Miles narrows the applicants down to just three – a scientist, a medium and an entrepreneur.

First and foremost, We Go On is a road movie; a mother and her son, seeking answers. Like a downbeat Mulder and Scully, the sceptic (or flat-out unbeliever) and the agnostic, scrabbling for hope in a world which often terrifies the latter. Such a concept would be nothing without a strong pair of leads, and this it has in spades with Clark Freeman and the always wonderful Annette O’ Toole.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2 Trailer Will Be Released Online Tomorrow
Image
Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.

Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."

The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).

It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

The Ruins (2008) – Wtf Happened to This Adaptation?
Image
It’s always fun to discuss horror novels that Aren’T Stephen King. No knock on the monster from Maine, he’s the master of horror novels over the last, oh I don’t know, 50 years, for a reason but its nice to not have the show be solely dedicated to his adapted works. He says knowing that he makes the schedule and decides what books to cover. See you in May, Mr. King! Funnily enough, the man actually loved today’s subject to the degree that he called it one of 2006’s best horror novels, but more on that in a little bit. The Ruins (watch it Here) was one of those hot properties by an author whose previous work was an instant success with critics, fans, and studio executives that put it to celluloid. The book came out and just two years later we were given a movie...
