Kudos to the filmmakers for putting out a fun, feel-good movie that's appropriate for the whole family. It was a sensitive, funny, and heart-warming film. It had a great story and was well written. The cast was fun and very talented. Ty Hodges character was hysterical. The score was great as well. It was fun to hear the music by Gene loves Jezebel (popular 80's band). I even went out after the movie and bought the soundtrack and was pleasantly surprised. I believe this may be the best movie Halestorm has put out. I hope people support this film so there will be more good family entertainment to follow. Keep up the good work. Thanks
I found this movie to be wonderful family movie that is a pure delight. It was nice to see an LDS movie that can be funny without trying to capitalize on the eccentricities of the minority of LDS people. It was also refreshing to see a film with a good story that has humor as opposed to other films that try to tie their humor together with a weak story. Aside from the "real" missionaries, there was nothing stereotypical about the characters, LDS religion, or story. Even though the outcome is generally predictable, I didn't mind. The journey was worth it because the characters are so well developed and played. There is nothing offensive to young or old and I believe it would be enjoyed by people of all faiths; although some humor may be lost on those not somewhat familiar with the LDS faith.
From my grandparents to my 12 year old, all were entertained buy this film. We all had a good time,I saw people tapping their toes and saw some clapping and a lot laughing. The quality of film and sound was great, much better that any of the other Mormon films that have been released locally. My son wanted the sound track and we bought it and have been listening to it since we saw the movie. We will buy the DVD when it is released. We're not critics and don't know all the details for dissecting a film. We don't give critics much attention any more when we choose film to spend our money on. Seems a lot of critics lately have embraced films that we would not take our family to. Go and see it for yourself.
As a pioneer-descended, Utah-raised Mormon bishop, I'm obliged to agree with some of the negative reviews. Perhaps I'm demanding, but when I see a comedy, I expect there to be a laugh or two somewhere in it. The actors are fine - very good, in fact. The film editing is fine. The script and direction are abysmal. Forget the plot holes and loose ends: The gratuitous swipes at other faiths and pro-LDS smugness are unbecoming and embarrassing. And I agree with one reviewer: enough with the paint ball obsession, Halestorm. This film wants to be funny and heart-warming and faith-promoting, but it comes out 0 for 3. The scriptwriters write as though they've no idea how to speak to a non-BYU audience. This film won't appeal to anyone but Mormons, and only the most undemanding at that. More's the pity.
I was very surprised to see a Halestorm movie that wasn't all slapstick and actually had a good storyline. Not sure what the lady in the plane was all about. I thought the actors were great! There were a few scenes that were a little bit silly and I thought the ending was a little weak but over all, I really enjoyed the movie. I walked away feeling good and happy about the time I had spent. It was fun to laugh at good humor. I hope the director/producer/writer keeps putting them out. There is a need for good clean movies that you can take your kids to and laugh together. Thanks to all who made this movie possible. Keep it up!
