During the game against St. Francis, when Richmond is making their comeback, one play they get a steal and make a lay-up. During the play Timo Cruz is seen on the court in the game. The camera then switches to the bench and clearly shows Timo sitting down clapping.

In the championship game, late in the 4th quarter the score is shown St. Francis 68-67 over Richmond. Richmond scores to take the lead presumably. However, when the buzzer beater is made by St. Francis in the closing seconds, the scoreboard shows a final score of 70-68. It should have read 70-69 as a final score.

During the scene just after the first training session with Carter, the boys go to a café and Worm is talking about the '2 for 1 offer' with Kyra's friends. Kyra starts off holding a drink in her right hand, but between shots it switches to her holding a paper bag, then back to the drink, before Kyra and Kenyon walk off together.

No doubt for poetic license, a physical padlock has been put on the gym door by Kenny Carter to "lock out" his players from practice. In real life, Carter, as depicted a part-time walk-on coach, would not have the power to lock out Richmond High School's girls basketball team, wrestling team, badminton team and PE classes. The "lockout" was symbolic, not physical.

At the end when Richmond play against Saint Francais, Coach Carter's son passes to "Worm" a fellow teammate. Worm is behind the half court line while Carter's son is in front of the half court line. In basketball this would count as a half court violation and it would be a turnover to the other team. In the movie however the game plays on.

When receiving his test back from the teacher, Junior Battle received credit for answering the question regarding Gerard Manley Hopkins' religious order as the Mormon religion. Father Gerard Manley Hopkins was a Roman Catholic convert and a Jesuit priest.

One of Coach Carter's techniques to instill discipline is to say that practice starts at 3:00 and at 2:55 they'd be late. This makes no sense for the very straightforward reason that 2:55 is not 3:00. so how could they already be late if practice doesn't start for another five minutes?

The movie is set in 1999, yet when the reporter calls over Ty Crane, he asks him what it is like to be seen as the "next LeBron James". LeBron James was not drafted into the NBA until 2003.

At the high school dance when Kenyon is walking out with girlfriend a student is shown wearing a Ron Artest Indiana Pacers jersey. The movie takes place during the 1999 high school basketball season. Ron Artest was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in summer of 1999 and did not play for the Pacers until 2002.

The movie is set in 1999, but in the school dance scene the song "Get Low" by Lil Jon plays in the background. The song was released in 2002.

When Coach White is introducing Coach Carter to the team, he says Carter attended George Mason University. Carter attended George Fox University.

During the state game, Carter tells Cruz to go in for Kenyon. But, when the game starts, both Kenyon and Cruz are playing in the game.

When Coach Carter initiates the lockout, he hangs a sign on the door of the gym that reads "Practice Cancelled Report To The Library." The word 'Cancelled' in American English is spelled 'Canceled.' The British spell it 'Cancelled.' Coach Carter is an American made film, based on an American team. It is ironic that Coach Carter misspelled a word on his sign, when he was suspending his players from playing basketball because of academic failure.
