While walking in the forest one fine day, a young noblewoman named "Lady Dal-Rye" (Hye-jeong Kim) notices a beautiful flower growing on a rocky ledge that is out of her reach. Somewhat frustrated, she calls out to a Buddhist monk named "Jo-sin" (Shin Yeong-gyun), who is wandering nearby, and politely inquires if he could climb up the steep side of the mountain and pick the flower so she can give it to her sick mother. Startled by her beauty and honored that a noblewoman of her stature would speak to him with such respect, Jo-sin quickly agrees to undertake the rather hazardous climb up the mountain cliff. After accomplishing his task, the two then go their separate ways, with Jo-sin completely captivated by her beauty and charm. Not long afterward, he learns that Lady Dal-Rye will be attending a ceremony at his monastery and, having fallen deeply in love with her, begs the high priest for guidance on handling his emotional crisis. To that effect, and being quite wise in matters of this nature, the high priest leads him to a special room within the monastery and tells him to pray and meditate until he returns. However, during this time, his passion for Lady Dal-Rye overwhelms him, leading them to forsake everything and escape into a neighboring kingdom. The problem, however, is that Lady Dal-Rye was engaged to be married to a famous warrior named "Mo-Rye" (Su-Il Bang), who becomes determined to take his fiancée back and kill the sinful monk in the process. Now, from what I understand, this movie is a remake of a 1955 film of the same name. Obviously, since I haven't seen that movie, I cannot compare it to this one. What I can say, however, is that this film, although somewhat predictable in the end, was still an enjoyable movie for the most part, with both Shin Yeong-gyun and Hye-jeong Kim performing exceptionally well in their respective roles. Likewise, having an actress as beautiful as Hye-jeong Kim certainly didn't hurt either. To be clear, this movie isn't a great drama by any means, and it could have used a bit more passion and suspense here and there. Even so, I enjoyed this film and rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
