Starbucks Disney Parks Tumblers Are Now Available!
Image
Disney and Starbucks have released brand new Disney Parks tumblers. Each tumbler features a Walt Disney World or Disneyland Park and comes with two special mystery pins! They are currently available on the Disney Store.

Honestly, the mystery pins seem like a cheap way to raise the price of these to $49.99, but I digress.

Let’s take a look!

“Matching ”sticker” style graphics inspired by attractions at (insert Disney park here) decorate both the tumbler’s translucent, double-wall exterior and two companion pins, randomly selected out of eight possible designs in the series. Enjoy a Starbucks® treat while trading pins in the Disney Parks. It’s a match made of magic!”

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Starbucks Tumbler with Mystery Pin – $49.99

“Each pack contains two randomly selected pins from eight overall designs in the Starbucks® Magic Kingdom set*

You won’t know which pins you have until you open the...

Sharknado (2013)
Screamboat review – rodent IP horror sends Mickey Mouse on a ferry rampage
Sharknado (2013)
A genetically modified mouse goes on the rampage in bloody Disney pastiche that offers Sharknado-level performances and kill scenes hindered by poor lighting

Here’s another draining bout of horror opportunism, spawned in this instance by the copyright expiring on Disney’s Steamboat Willie, the 1928 landmark animation that launched Mickey Mouse into the world. Scurrying on to screens months behind the similarly motivated The Mouse Trap, Steven Lamorte’s bloody pastiche opens with a quote coyly ascribed to “Walt D” before plodding mirthlessly in the pawprints of those recent Winnie-the-Pooh carve-ups, demonstrating no greater brio, invention or wit. Its mock Mickey is a genetically modified super-violent pipsqueak, let loose from the sewers by blundering engineers; rather than the jaunty steamboat his predecessor commandeered, he wreaks murderous havoc on a grimy approximation of the Staten Island ferry, whistling while he works.

The whole never recovers from its leaden opening half-hour,...

The plans for Disney's Villains Land only highlight why a 5th gate is needed
Image
As Disney announces what the new Villains Land will be like, it just proves why a 5th gate would be better for Wdw!

D23 had a lot of big announcements for Disney World. Among them was the transformation of Frontierland into a Cars-themed area, getting rid of the Rivers of America, which has not been a popular decision.

There's also the confirmation of the long-rumored Villains Land, which does make sense. An area dedicated to Disney villains is logical, and the artwork is unique, showcasing it. We now have a bit more info courtesy of D23 Brazil as Disney Parks head Josh D'Amaro announced which villains are coming to the land:

The Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland); Jafar (Aladdin); Lady Tremaine (Cinderella); Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove); Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmatians); Captain Hook (Peter Pan); Gaston (Beauty and the Beast); Mother Gothel (Tangled); Ursula (The Little Mermaid); Hades...

‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ Trailer – Mickey Mouse Horror Movie Slashes Through the Magic Kingdom This Year
Image
Winnie the Pooh got his own (unofficial) horror movie last year with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and this year it’s Mickey Mouse’s turn to (unofficially) do a little slicing and dicing.

The Mickey Mouse character entered the public domain just yesterday and already the first teaser trailer has been unleashed for Mickey’s Mouse Trap, an upcoming low-budget horror movie that was obviously shot before the character fell into the public domain but is only being announced and previewed now that Disney can’t actually come after the filmmaking team.

How is Mickey Mouse in the public domain, you ask? Well, it’s actually the short film Steamboat Willie (1928) that entered the public domain this year, bringing Mickey along with it. A Killer Mickey video game was also announced already, which is titled Infestation 88.

In Mickey’s Mouse Trap, on the other hand…

It’s Alex’s 21st birthday,...

The Streaming Wars Are Over - Why Netflix Just Won
Image
Since it first started distributing movies and shows over the internet in 2007, Netflix has enjoyed an enormous head start over its competitors. Rival entertainment companies got sucked into an all-out arms race in 2019 and 2020 as the pandemic closed theaters and people around the globe kicked back in front of their streaming devices. But as entertainment companies struggle mightily to make their streamers profitable, they’re turning to their old rival for help. And now, Disney is letting Netflix stream some of its shows. With this retreat, Netflix now looks invincible over the long haul.

In a 2022 interview, then-former Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke of how he felt when he realized how his company’s content was making Netflix rich. “I woke up one day (in 2015) and thought we’re basically selling nuclear weapons technology to a third-world country, and now they’re using it against us,” Iger said. “So we...

The True Meaning Of Disney's Wish Is Actually Pretty Dark (And All About Disney Itself)
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Wish."

It's been 100 years since Walt Disney created The Walt Disney Company, which first produced short silent films like "Alice's Funnies." That film starred Walt Disney himself, in live-action, showing a little girl how he created his cartoons. The strange and anthropomorphic creations came alive on the screen in front of her in that ambitious early short, and after a day of behind-the-scenes magic, she dreamed herself into the cartoon world.

The events of the next century are much too voluminous to write them all down here but needless to say, Walt Disney's company underwent many changes. Original characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy helped make the studio an industry titan, and feature films like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Cinderella" cemented its box office clout. Disney's theme parks literally changed landscapes. And by the time the 100th anniversary of those original cartoons came around,...

Sasami Kicks Off SXSW 2022 With a Growl — and More Surprises and Thrills From Day One
Image
Despite staring down a two-plus-year pandemic, the very real possibility of Wwiii, and the Great State of Texas’s bullshit attempts to roll back the rights of women and the LGBTQ community to the dark ages, Rolling Stone has made it to South by Southwest.

And we’re damn glad to be here.

After the past two editions were scrapped or moved online due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the very fact that SXSW 2022 — and specifically its music-festival component — is happening in Austin, in clubs, and in person is reason to celebrate.
