This is a really bad film. I'm forced to say more because there is a minimum of ten lines in order to have my comment posted, and this movie was so bad I feel an obligation to warn the general public. It was screened at Sundance (?) and then later on Channel 13 (???) where I saw it. It is incredibly heavy handed with a topic (?) that doesn't stand up under such weight; the melodrama the characters infused into everyday situations felt much less like an interesting commentary on how the general "we" conduct our lives and much more like overwrought / indulgent whining. There was a small bit of decent acting, but it was ruined by all of the hissy fits and at times atrociously lame writing. This is one party that promises (SUNDANCE? PBS???) a lot more than it delivers.
I like indie movies, but this one was another of the kind that damages crossover appeal for this type of film. 2 hours of a party filled with people you wouldn't want to hang out with for ten minutes.

Cry Funny Happy is a film that demonstrates how an unknown director and group of actors with little more than desire can create a powerful and compelling story. The cast has magnetic chemistry that draws you deeper into this story of a circle of friends in the grips of personal crisis. The movement in Independent film production has given opportunities to talented casts and crews to demonstrate what is possible without the studio system. CFH is a obvious winner and has a cast, director, and visual style that will stay with you long after the film ends.
I have watched this film several times with different groups of friends. I'm amused how everyone has a fairly extreme point of view and seems best reviewed by people under 30 who still fight to understand their identity and personal journey.

this was a poignant film dealing with interpersonal relationships. it had great characters, superb acting and an intelligent script. it got to the heart of the intimacy (or lack there of) between people as they navigate relationships with friends and lovers. The independence of the film allowed it to be truly multicultural. it was truly a rare occasion to see a movie and have characters of all backgrounds fully integrated (not assimilated, there is a big difference). They were also included without the stereotypical b.s. most filmmakers include. Which normally depicts characters of color generally and superficially.
Great Character Study!!! Good Acting!!! Even better writing!!!!

talk, talk, talk, conflict,, more conflict, resolution with everyone full of impossible insight how many movies like this have been made? ah well... a good way for actors to learn to emote and a harmless waste of a few thousand dollars. No more painful than any of the thousand forgettable others. Has a nice, natural look, solid direction. No stand-outs among the ensemble but nothing made me cringe, either The dialogue was also very realistic so it seems Sam Neave the writer/director/ editor has loads of talent, just didn't have much of a story to wield it on.
He also had the luck or the smarts to have Daddy Redford's little girl Amy as one of his stars. Can't hurt the funding. She did a fine job, BTW.
