considering it's Slovenian production it's good..

This movie is quite watchable. For some Slovenian movies you must force yourself to watch them to the end, for this one that's not necessary. The story is about a couple of totally different people and we could go deeper and say it's a story of two different nations. As the main actress is hard working Slo. girl, on the other hand guy from Bosnia don't really know what work is..

Somehow the movie isn't really a comedy and not really a love story..something in the middle. I think for giving a good vote to this movie you must know the cliches in Slovenia and be indulgent to cinema in this country. Nevertheless I enjoyed the movie and would give it 7 out of 10

Passable directing debut

Branko Djuric Djuro is a renowned comedian actor with a cult following in entire Yugoslavia. Taking him seriously as a dramatic actor was difficult at first, but after "No Man's Land" it wasn't that difficult anymore. Then he starts to direct-now that's a stretch. Still, "Kajmak in marmelada" shows some premise and Djuro does better with it than fellow actor-turned-director Dejan Acimovic with his pretentious and over-dramatic "Je li jasno prijatelju?". What never before has been a trend in former Yugoslavia, that actors should try themselves at directing, has now seemingly become that.

Featuring mainly unknown names, save for three (Djuric, Bitorajac and Bjelogrlic), this film is an everyday life story which contains equal amounts of drama and humor. Basically, it's about love and the things that really matter in a relationship. The lead male protagonist Božo is a Bosnian living in Slovenia, a loser kind of type who after his woman leaves him tries to redeem himself in order to win her back. Spela is a strong and smart woman who is torn between her reason and her family who don't think highly of her boyfriend and her love for Božo.

The actress playing Spela gave quite a strong performance. Dragan Bjelogrlic was convincing in his part as Božo's seedy friend involved in illegal activities and Rene Bitorajac gave an amusing cameo performance as a Bosnian gangster. Djuro again showed that he is more than just a comedian and his performance is perhaps his most mature so far. So to sum it all up, a passable melodrama with quite a few dramatic twists and some enjoyable humor.

SLOVENIAN EYES WIDE SHUT

This time without Tom & gorgeous Nicole, but with Branko & gorgeous Tanja. Till now, everything works great, just too bad that Branko isn't Kubrick. Nevertheless Kajmak in marmelada remains one of the most popular movies made lately in Slovenia, but is this a proof, that is the best?

From my point of view.....No. Why? Firstly, the story is full of cliches and in some parts not very believable. O.k. i could live with that, if the humor were great, but sadly, there were only a scene or two where i laughed my pants off. As for the actors, well, they were allright, although far from being great. Except Dragan Bjelogrlic (main serbian star, unforgettable part in Rane) , he was just as good as always. Oh, and yes, and a big compliment for Tanja. Nude scenes are very rarely in Slovenian production (especially coming from main actors) and that's why even sexier.

All in all, the movie is still enjoyable, but although similar to the greatest Slovenian movie Outsider, can't compare to them in any aspect and that's why a mediocre

could be better

I really have to admit that I have expected more of Branko Djuric in this movie. Branko Djuric was and is a synonym for humor in the "West Balcans", as well as in Slovenia where he moved in the beginning of the War. What he did back in the 80's was a highlight of Yugoslav humor, and that is why I expected more.

Moresover, because almost half of Slovenians went to the cinema to watch this movie, so did I as well, but I was kind of disappointed. The storyline is boring and predictable, the characters are stereotypical, and it isn't all that funny at all. I know that some might say that this movie wasn't supposed to be all about comedy, and that it deals with some kind of stereotypes, but I cannot help thinking that Djuro could have made this film better.

Actually, what I liked the most was the scene in the restaurant, that one was really good, but the rest of the film was pretty uninteresting. Dragan Bjelogrlic as good as always.

I hope the next film that Djuro makes will be better! 6/10

Laugh Riot!

Cheese and jam is like this unpretentious comedy. It couldn't happen in real life for sure, but if real life is so much fun why do we have movies in the first place?

It's an out and out entertainer, every scene is comic...here life appears light and full of laughter

And the actors are brilliant.. I saw the movie as part of the European Film Festival and for this film more than any of the others, this one had people laughing and enjoying themselves scene after scene..

and most importantly it's not an empty comedy; It has meaning alright. One message could be that No one's perfect. Another beautiful thing about this film is that is shows a very tender kind of love. The man trying to please the woman, and a woman who also really loves the man. Movies that give a vision of love together with happiness I believe are rare
