Mutual Admiration Society

I had the opportunity to see this film last year at a screening at a local college. I found the writing to be both unique and interesting, which is something you don't get in a lot of low-budget features. Keith Thomas Brown shines as Lou, an intricate character that could have fallen apart in the hands of other actors, and demands presence whenever he is in frame. Although he is angry for most of the film, Brown pulls off a wide range of emotions effectively and he creates a character that the audience members will dislike, yet relate to. Another great character in this film is Troy Vank, who is simultaneously haunting and hilarious as the Punch The Clown. Well-written, well-shot (considering the miniscule budget), and well-acted, this film represents everything that is great about independent cinema. I believe we will see great things in future projects by director Satchel Underwood and the cast of this film.

Very intelligent film ....penetrating... It's rare these days that a film is both fresh and intelligent... Overall, quite enjoyable... a film that has a growing cult following.

The film has a large ensemble cast and many of the performances are well layered and developed. A couple of cast members that really stood out to me were John Joyce as the sinister drug addicted wise-ass, Richie Wexler and Thomas Olson as the alcoholic abusive dad, Hank Weaver.... Satchel Underwood has given an outstanding debut effort on all fronts which is difficult for some combination writer/director/actors... so plan to see more of him soon.

Probably a film that is even better on a second viewing. Go see it... A 10 !

I first screened this Film at a small Film Festival in Fitchburg Mass. Out of about 30 Films that were shown, this is the only one that anyone was talking about. I was told it was shot in 3 days... that's amazing!

Set in Manchester New Hampshire, it is essentially the story of a young man trying to climb out from the dark depressing shadow of his hometown and dead end friends. Most of the cast had never been in front of a camera before and they all shine. If you are from New England you'll love the authentic dialog and attitudes of the characters.

For me, the standout performance was from the director himself as the Coked-up, Ski Bum, Gun runner... terrific stuff.
