Tim Burton
Tim Burton Set For Live-Action Dumbo
Tim Burton
Given how successful Tim Burton’s last retrofit of a Disney animated film into a live-action adventure fared with Alice In Wonderland, it’s entirely unsurprising to learn that the Mouse House has now handed him another gig. This time, his assignment is Dumbo. Talking with the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, Disney president of production Sean Bailey says that the studio is in development for a new take on the flying elephant tale, and that Burton is the man to wrangle it on to screens. There’s no release date yet, and Bailey said nothing else about the film other than “it’s a big world” (off-brand for Disney, surely, given it let loose one of the most dangerous earworms known to man or beast), which leads us to think that the story will expand beyond the basics. The 1941 film saw the young circus elephant ridiculed for his enormous ears,...

Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in Garota Exemplar (2014)
‘Gone Girl’ Star Carrie Coon on Why the Film Adaptation Is ‘Icky’
Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in Garota Exemplar (2014)
There’s a lot to love about David Fincher’s film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel “Gone Girl.” But one of the best performances comes from relative newcomer Carrie Coon, who also stars in HBO’s “The Leftovers.” In “Gone Girl,” Coon plays Margo Dunne, the twin-sister to Ben Affleck’s Nick Dunne. They co-own a bar and are very close – so close, at one point it’s suggested that they’re involved in “twincest.” Coon’s performance...

Confirmed: Zack Snyder To Direct Justice League Movie After Batman Vs. Superman
Though its been longtime speculated and hinted at, Greg Silverman, the president of production at Warner Bros. has confirmed today via The Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy that a Justice League movie is definitely in the pipeline and it will follow Zack Snyder's still untitled Man of Steel sequel. “It will be a further expansion of this universe,” he said. “’Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’” That's not all. Silverman says that the script for Justice League is still in development and there is no release date set (likely after 2018), but Zack Snyder will return to direct the superero ensemble film with Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot among others expected to reprise their Batman vs. Superman roles. Greg Silverman kept mum on exactly which heroes will join the trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, but the recent casting of Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and rumors of the Flash,...

Interview: Actress Lake Bell Writes, Directs ‘In a World...’
Chicago – Lake Bell is a recognizable and successful character actress, having prominence in television (“Boston Legal”) and films (“It’s Complicated”). For her latest film, she wrote, directed and starred in a gentle parody of the voiceover profession, especially the intoned voices that narrate movie trailers, “In a World…”

Bell was born in New York City, and attended Saratoga College and Rose Bruford College in London, where she got bit with the acting bug and did several high level theater productions, including “The Seagull” and “Six Degrees of Separation.” She began her professional career in 2002 with the film “Speakeasy” and two episodes of TV’s popular “ER.” After a stint on the sitcom “Miss Match” the next year, she landed on “The Practice,” and became a regular on its spinoff, “Boston Legal.” She had a high profile film role as Alec Baldwin’s second wife in “It’s Complicated” (2009), and...

If you want to get ahead in the entertainment industry, you need to be willing to flout some rules. That was the key takeaway of last evening’s Tribeca Talks, which featured Alec Baldwin interviewing a surprisingly candid Doug Liman about his not-quite-legal cinematic exploits. Move over, Colin Farrell?*

Baldwin began the conversation by asking Liman, the director of “Fair Game” and “The Bourne Identity” and the producer of “The O.C.” and “Covert Affairs,...
