    Great Romantic Comedy Movie

A wonderful romantic commedy starring the ever lovely Sammi Cheng. It combines romance and comedy beautifully in a simple but yet fulfilling story, with ghost element involved. Think of it as Hong Kong version of Hollywood's heat movie "Ghost" only that this one has more Chinese taste and is definitely better. The music is beautifully but yet not intrusive.

Without giving too much away, the movie has a slight twist at the end, though the observant audience would probably recognize it early on. The twist helps to tie the movie logically together.

Sammi gave a great performance as a newly-wed widow who transforms herself... She has trully become a magnificient performer and can hold a movie on her own shoulder.

    A 9/10.

Don't let the silly title fool you

Honestly didn't expect much when watching it the first time, but it turned out to be an emotional roller coaster, rewatching after so many years and knowing the plot twist actually made me cried even more...

It is by far my favourite romantic comedy with a heartfelt message for those who have lost their loved ones and is going through grieving...

Just want to do it a little of justice here, since the movie was made for local Cantonese audience, it's likely that some jokes are lost in translations and need a little background knowledge of Chinese mythology to truly grasp some bizarre moments that is meant to make you laugh

Hope Hong Kong film industries can bring these type of movie back!!!

Smile-- nothing to be scared about

Having seen a number of Asian horror films and Asian horror-sillies I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this. Much to my surprise, silly as it is at times, I got hooked.

I've never quite known what to make of Sammi Cheng. But I liked this film even if her character isn't exactly the most likable when you first meet her most unexpectedly at her husband's funeral. In fact, learning that she is the sudden mystery widow of a wealthy man whom you never really see is just one of a number surprises here. And it's also one of the biggest surprises to the dead man's family and former girlfriend who are not just beside themselves with grief, but also horror at the thought of her and her seemingly appalling ways. And that is probably the only real "horror" here-- and that is how it should be.

But, as the title says, there is more here than meets the eye-- like a left eye which inexplicably starts seeing ghosts. This is NOT the great Cantonese flick "The EYE" nor is it meant to be. ANd it isn't a would-be knock off. It is, at its heart, a supernatural romantic comedy-- but if Sammi's vision allows her to see ghosts, love makes her blind.

The primary ghost in question has a distinctly juvenile charm and is at times obnoxious, but the mother-in-law and, most notably, ex-girlfriend may just be the most delightfully scary critters around and always the ones who want to scream. In fact, they are a scream.

This is a light and breezy tale but a surprisingly nice diversion. Like its central character-- Sammi (May) this quirky little film has an equally quirky redeeming quality in the end.

    A really nice surprise

I have to say that this movie caught me by surprise. I thought it was going to be a horror movie, along the lines of The Eye and it was not. It is a fresh comedy with a romantic twist. It is character-driven, very real characters that you can relate to. Sammi Cheng who plays May and Chi-Sing Lam who plays Sam put in great performances, both very funny.

The movie begins in a graveyard with the burial of Daniel, his family and ex-girlfriend sobbing over his grave. That's when the ex-girlfriend who helped Daniel and his family build a very successful purse business learns of Daniel's quickie marriage of 7 days to May. She now gets his inheritance, and she turns out to be a smoking, drinking and lazy gold digger.

One night while drinking and driving, she smashes Daniel's car and meets Ken, a ghost, who scares her soul back into her body to continue living. After an operation, she realizes that she can now see ghosts with her left eye and Ken will not leave her alone.

I recommend this movie as light-hearted fun, and it will definitely suck you into it.

Not a good effort but worth your penny with Sammi Cheng around.

Lately the horror-movie bug has hit the Hong Kong film industry. As recent as now there was The Eye and before that there were Visible Secret II, Inner Senses, Horror Hotline...Big Head Monster and the continuation series of Troublesome Nights to name a few. However My Left Eye Sees Ghosts is a fresh attempt by the in-separable duo of Johnnie To and Wai Ka Fai and here they combined a mix-genre of a black comedy with a little touch of romance. Don't be fool by the title, as you will NOT see any eerie ghoulish scene in this movie even with BOTH your eyes. It is, as though these days Hong Kong songbird Sammi Cheng has been categorized as a comic actress as she has not played a serious role in a movie for a long time now. Sammi is in her usual acting self once again here but Lau Ching Wan's talent is totally wasted in this movie although he did managed to show his comic side in his character role.

In this movie Sammi is again playing a jovial and happy go lucky lady very much alike the role she played in her previous film, Marry a rich Man but this time she has a much meaner personality. The movie plot starts to develop after Sammi survived a suicide attempt in a car crash. Later she finds herself being able to see spirits with her left eye, a gift she then uses to help a deceased man (Lau Ching Wan) who also acts as her guardian angel, to fulfill his final wish. Get ready for a very unexpected ending in the movie.

My Left Eye Sees Ghosts is indeed a black comedy. In fact almost all the ghosts that appear in the movie are funny looking (like the fat hungry ghost) and non-ghoulish. This film would be a fresh change as lately we have been getting loads and loads of horror stuffs from Hong Kong and it's absolutely fantastic to have a different movie theme although still tagging on with the ‘ghost' theme.

Not really a good effort but worth a laugh or two.

Mrs. Tsui: You're a strong girl, Cathy. I didn't expect you to hold up.

May Ho: Grandma, my real name is May.

Susan: Daniel said your name was Cathy.

May Ho: Who knew if he was for real? I made it up.

Mrs. Tsui: Why isn't your father here? Busy in meetings?

May Ho: He could've come, but his sentence just got extended.

Mrs. Tsui: Sentence? Your father's in jail?

May Ho: Yes. For smuggling pigs.

Susan: Isn't he a diamond tycoon?

May Ho: I lied to Daniel.

      Mrs. Tsui: Why?

May Ho: Because he made up stories.

Mrs. Tsui: What did he say?

May Ho: He bragged about himself. Said he represented top fashion labels, went to Stanford, came from a good family, started his own business, and won many honors.

      Mrs. Tsui: That's all true.

May Ho: I didn't know, so I made up stories.

Mrs. Tsui: Did Daniel know the truth before he died?

May Ho: Yes and no. I didn't tell him everything.
