During an interview, which was translated by mangabrog, Kentaro Miura shared how the friendship among Griffith, Guts, and the Band of the Hawk was a simple idea initially. One that was rooted in reality.

As he began to question the motivations of Guts, the idea evolved into its more gruesome and final form. Their friendship in Berserk evolved for the worse, and the readers weren’t prepared for it.

The idea of the Band of the Hawk was based on Kentaro Miura’s own boys’ group back in school. This friendship was very simple, and so was the initial form of the mercenary group in Berserk.

As the title itself implies, Berserk is about rage, and not just a specific kind of rage. In an interview, published in September 2000, author Kentaro Miura shared that he always wanted to highlight rage in his series, and it was the central focus. Guts, the protagonist of Berserk, is full of anger because of the endless torture that he goes through.

Born out of a corpse, he was se*ually assaulted by Donovan at a young age. He does take his revenge, but that type of scar remains throughout life. It was his adoptive father who had sold him to Donovan. Years later, when he was finally able to fall in love, he was forced to watch his best friend violate his lover. Every bad thing that can happen to a human has happened to Guts. How can such a character not contain rage?

Kentaro Miura‘s Berserk has stood at the top of the dark fantasy world of the anime industry for almost 40 years. Even though the series never received a decent anime adaptation, it still managed to make a name for itself. But the world of Berserk shattered completely when its creator sadly passed away in 2021.

After Miura’s passing, Koji Mori, another popular manga artist who was also the best friend of the Berserk mangaka, took over the responsibility of his masterpiece. Mori is now handling Guts’ journey of revenge within the series along with the staff of Studio Gaga. However, the intriguing aspect is that Mori has not added or modified the story in any way.

In fact, he once revealed in an interview with Asahi that he would never bring any change to the Berserk universe and solely follow the story that Miura had originally planned for Guts, the protagonist.

Film producer and screenwriter Adi Shankar, known among anime fans for his work on Netflix's Castlevania and Devil May Cry series, has sparked intense backlash from fans of Berserk after declaring the iconic manga series his own and teasing drastic changes, which included inserting himself into the story.

In a previous post on X (formerly Twitter), Adi Shankar said that he would helm a new Berserk adaptation, changing the lore and making Guts an "Adi Shankar self-insert." Although he later clarified that the post was intended as a troll one, a petition was still launched on Change.org with the stated goal to "protect Berserk from falling into the same pitfall as other franchises under Shankar's production." Shankar, however, appeared unfazed by the backlash, posting a screenshot of the petition with the simple two-word caption: "Cry Harder."

If there's one thing that The Apothecary Diaries taught us, it's that there's a very good portion of anime fans who are willing to get lost in stories that feel wholesome while also bringing something new to the world of animated series. With that in mind, Crunchyroll is bringing to its catalog Let's Play, a new anime series that hails from the same studio as The Apothecary Diaries. The show is slated to debut soon on the platform, and a first trailer was unveiled to provide a general feel of the upcoming anime series.

The story of Let's Play mixes slice-of-life elements with a different and possibly comedic premise. It centers on Sam Young (Kana Hanazawa), a video game developer who dedicates her time and efforts to creating the best game she possibly can. Anime adaptations of prominent manga and manhwa stories might not always feel like an upgrade, and this has been proven by anime series like Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk. These stories are some of the greatest projects in history, but they have consistently failed in getting a proper anime adaptation.

Now, another story has joined their ranks and, according to some fans, might even surpass them in terms of failing to adapt its manhwa source. The anime is none other than The Beginning After the End, which recently started streaming. When Tbate was announced, fans were excited for the series as it is one of the greatest manhwa stories in the world.

However, the anime produced by Studio A-Cat was a disappointment from the first episode. There are multiple aspects that contribute to the failure of the anime, but the biggest one is definitely the animation style of the series, which literally feels like a slideshow.

The world of manga was left in utter despair as the legendary mangaka, Kentaro Miura, passed away in 2021, at the age of 54. Because of that, he couldn’t even finish his signature work, Berserk, which is arguably the best-written piece of fiction to ever exist.
