10 ‘Revenge Seeking Hero’ Anime Just as Good as Miura’s Berserk
Image
As many would say, Kentaro Miura’s Berserk is inarguably one of the most nuanced vengeful storylines ever written. However, within this lustrous anime media, there still exists a plethora of other such awesome shows one can experience. Each presents the concept of taking revenge in a new light.

Berserk might have put up a masterclass in showing the grotesque and brutal side of someone’s lust for seeking revenge, but some other anime also do it equally well, if not better. So, after much consideration, here we’ve picked 10 such shows that fans of this genre or trope would love to watch, as they are all must-sees without exaggeration.

Kouji Mori's D. Diver Is Berserk's Spiritual Successor
Image
Few manga have had the same seismic impact on dark fantasy as Berserk. The late Kentaro Miura created a brutal yet deeply human story that continues to influence countless works long after his passing. With Kouji Mori stepping in to guide the manga’s continuation, fans have seen Guts’ journey preserved, but Mori hasn’t stopped there.

In a recent interview, Mori revealed his latest project, D. Diver, a series directly inspired by conversations he once had with Miura, according to ComicBook. The revelation has quickly sparked debate among fans, questioning whether D. Diver could be the true spiritual successor to Berserk. While very different in setting and tone, its...

Vianova on Their Suprise New Album and Binge Reading Manga
Image
Every now and then a band comes along that completely blows you away because you’re not really able to describe exactly what you’re listening to. In the case of Germany’s Vianova, that same feeling washed over me with the release of every new single. From the cyberpunk tinged “Melachronic” to the just plain bonkers “Uh Yaya,” the band upped their game with every new video over the past year. In celebration of the surprise release of their debut album Hit It! , I had the opportunity to speak with vocalist Alex Kerski about the album creation process, how they developed the narrative across their music videos, and the...

New Berserk Release Reveals Unfortunate Series Update
Image
Berserk is one of the most notable dark fantasy manga franchises of all time, with the series still being produced after decades of brutal story arcs. Unfortunately, in the wake Berserk's newest official release, fans will have to be extremely patient before they can get their hands on the next volume, especially internationally.

It's now been confirmed that Volume 44 of the Berserk manga is literally years away from being released in Japan. This means that an English localization is even further away, especially since Volume 43 just touched down in Japan but likely won't receive an official English-language translation for a while. This speaks to the notoriously slow production of the story,...

Sound And Vision: Kon Satoshi
Image
In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at Hirasawa Susumu's Forces, from the Berserk soundtrack, directed by Kon Satoshi. This week it has been fifteen years since master anime director Kon Satoshi passed away. Five years ago ScreenAnarchy looked back at the legacy of the director of classics like the horror-thriller Perfect Blue, the dream-infused surrealist fantasy Paprika, the heart-warming genreblending Christmas drama Tokyo Godfathers and the epic film-ode that is Millennium Actress. Also included were miscellaneous works, like his grand opus tv-series Paranoia Agent, the short films Magnetic Rose (from anthology film Memories) and Good Morning.

Berserk Artist Reveals Future Storyline Agonized Late Series Creator as Much as the Eclipse
Image
The Berserk manga is known for its dark and sometimes disturbing content, with many of its arcs being particularly bleak. Now, the story's current trajectory is set to go even further, with the new creative team tackling elements that even the franchise's creator struggled with.

The official writer and artist of Berserk recently confirmed that what's coming next in the manga is particularly harsh, even compared to what's come before. In fact, creator Kentaro Miura apparently hadn't struggled so much with the story since another infamous part of the manga. This promises to be perhaps the darkest development for the fantasy manga yet, which is certainly saying a lot.

Is Black Myth: Wukong a Soulslike Game? Difficulty Level Explained
Image
Black Myth: Wukong is not a Soulslike game, but it does feature elements that have been prevalent throughout the genre. It’s an action-rpg with a fixed difficulty level that cannot be adjusted in any way, which is what makes it a Souls-adjacent title. However, unlike Souls games, Black Myth: Wukong puts more focus on the narrative, with its story laid out clearly through cutscenes, instead of reading item descriptions and interpreting the lore in your own way.

The combat and progression are different from your Souls bread and butter, yet the bosses are tough, and the difficulty cannot be changed, which makes it a narrative-driven action-rpg that borrows heavily from the genre. There’s a reason why Game Science refers to it as an action-rpg rather than a Soulslike title, unlike Lies of P.

How Does Black Myth: Wukong’s Difficulty Work?

While it may be more approachable than your typical Soulslike title,...

“A Soul-Seared Tale of Brutality, Intimacy, and the Unforgiving Path to Revenge” — Exclusive Reveal of Ferocious, a New Comic Book Series from Luke Piotrowski, Emanuele Ercolani, and Mad Cave Studios
Image
"What happens when the only person who can teach you how to kill… is the one who destroyed everything you loved?"

Daily Dead readers know screenwriter Luke Piotrowski from his recent work on Hellraiser and The Night House (which is a particular favorite of mine), so I was really delighted to learn that he's bringing his character-driven horror sensibility to comic books for the first time in Ferocious, "a brutal new fantasy series that doesn’t flinch from blood, or heart!" From Mad Cave Studios, Piotrowski teams up with artist Emanuele Ercolani, colorist Paolo Raiteri, and letterer Carlos M. Mangual on Ferocious, and we have all the details, along with an exclusive look at cover art from the first issue:

Series Synopsis: "A tavern boy’s sheltered life is overturned by the arrival of a towering, draconic woman, a wayward soldier from a distant war who single-handedly lays waste to his entire village.

Psycho-frame on how Anime Provides That Creative Spark
Image
If you are ever in the need for some super slamming deathcore, look no further than Psycho-frame. The supergroup has been releasing killer merch, incredible snare blasts (shout-out interview alumnus Hunter Young for dialing that in) and all-time classic EPs for the past few years, culminating in the release of their first full-length record, Salvation Laughs In The Face Of A Grieving Mother . Astute readers will probably have noticed by now that their name is a Gundam reference, and it will shock no one that the entire band is filled with anime fans. Upon the release of their new record ad right after the band visited Crunchyroll HQ, I chatted with vocalist Colter Cuthbertson about how anime permeates all facets of the band. Was anime on or around while you were writing or recording the new album? Colter Cuthbertson : Yes! I was just finishing Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 around the...

A compelling redemption arc with some of the most relevant societal messages is what makes Vinland Saga great, right? So, after finishing the masterpiece of a series that it truly is, if you wish to experience something, you’d better try these recommended ones. Both Vinland Saga and Vagabond provide a rich historical setting with much accuracy. Even the protagonists are quite similar in terms of their motivations, but their goals might just be starkly different.

This Fighting Game Based on an IMDb 9-Rated Anime Was July’s Biggest Steam Flop
Image
The fighting game genre is full of top-tier hits like Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and even Street Fighter. Aside from these classics, we anime fans have gotten our fair share of titles like Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections.

However, there’s one more anime-based fighting game that was released this year which might go under your radar. If you’re already guessing, I’ll answer straight away. It’s Hunter×Hunter Nen×Impact.

Despite being a favorite anime among many and even published by Arc System Works, it isn’t performing great. As of now, it only peaked at 277 players and is gradually dropping over time.

Even though Hunter×Hunter is one of the most popular anime of all time, these results are shameful. Naruto and Dbz-based games, on the contrary, perform a lot better. So, what exactly went wrong for the fighting game based on Hunter×Hunter?...

The Most Underrated Anime of 2025 Is in the Same League as ‘Berserk’ and ‘One Piece’
Image
2025 has been one of the best years for anime. From Solo Leveling season 2, Dandadan season 2 to The Apothecary Diaries, some of the best series have been airing this year, with plenty more to come. However, there is one anime that rivals Berserk and One Piece, yet is being ignored by most viewers.

The anime in question is Grand Blue Dreaming, which has returned with its second season after seven long years of break. It is an A-Lister in the comedy department, yet it has been overshadowed and almost forgotten, and season 2 isn’t nearly getting the same attention as it deserves.

Summer 2025 Anime Season Has Overshadowed a Comedy Masterpiece

Summer 2025 has turned out to be not only one of the best seasons but also one of the most crowded ones. Plenty of well-known anime like Dandadan, My Dress-Up Darling, Kaiju No. 8, Sakamoto Days, Call of the Night, and Dr.

Kentaro Miura Didn’t Think Too Much About ‘Berserk’s Most Gruesome Theme
Image
The brutality is an integral aspect of Berserk, as it conveys the grimness and gravity of its fantasy world. It also gives meaning to Guts’ anger and his revenge in the series. During an interview, which was translated by mangabrog, Kentaro Miura shared how the friendship among Griffith, Guts, and the Band of the Hawk was a simple idea initially. One that was rooted in reality.

As he began to question the motivations of Guts, the idea evolved into its more gruesome and final form. Their friendship in Berserk evolved for the worse, and the readers weren’t prepared for it.

Kentaro Miura on the Beginning of Guts’ Anger in Berserk Griffith, Casca, and the others | Credits: Hakusensha

The idea of the Band of the Hawk was based on Kentaro Miura’s own boys’ group back in school. This friendship was very simple, and so was the initial form of the mercenary group in Berserk.

Kentaro Miura Wanted ‘Berserk’ to Be About One of the Most Complex Emotions
Image
As the title itself implies, Berserk is about rage, and not just a specific kind of rage. In an interview, published in September 2000, author Kentaro Miura shared that he always wanted to highlight rage in his series, and it was the central focus. Guts, the protagonist of Berserk, is full of anger because of the endless torture that he goes through.

Born out of a corpse, he was se*ually assaulted by Donovan at a young age. He does take his revenge, but that type of scar remains throughout life. It was his adoptive father who had sold him to Donovan. Years later, when he was finally able to fall in love, he was forced to watch his best friend violate his lover. Every bad thing that can happen to a human has happened to Guts. How can such a character not contain rage?

Koji Mori Made One Promise to Kentaro Miura When Reviving ‘Berserk’
Image
Kentaro Miura‘s Berserk has stood at the top of the dark fantasy world of the anime industry for almost 40 years. Even though the series never received a decent anime adaptation, it still managed to make a name for itself. But the world of Berserk shattered completely when its creator sadly passed away in 2021.

After Miura’s passing, Koji Mori, another popular manga artist who was also the best friend of the Berserk mangaka, took over the responsibility of his masterpiece. Mori is now handling Guts’ journey of revenge within the series along with the staff of Studio Gaga. However, the intriguing aspect is that Mori has not added or modified the story in any way.

In fact, he once revealed in an interview with Asahi that he would never bring any change to the Berserk universe and solely follow the story that Miura had originally planned for Guts, the protagonist.

'Cry Harder': Netflix Showrunner Calls Out Petition Against New Berserk Anime
Image
Film producer and screenwriter Adi Shankar, known among anime fans for his work on Netflix's Castlevania and Devil May Cry series, has sparked intense backlash from fans of Berserk after declaring the iconic manga series his own and teasing drastic changes, which included inserting himself into the story.

In a previous post on X (formerly Twitter), Adi Shankar said that he would helm a new Berserk adaptation, changing the lore and making Guts an "Adi Shankar self-insert." Although he later clarified that the post was intended as a troll one, a petition was still launched on Change.org with the stated goal to "protect Berserk from falling into the same pitfall as other franchises under Shankar's production." Shankar, however, appeared unfazed by the backlash, posting a screenshot of the petition with the simple two-word caption: "Cry Harder."

6 Best Anti-Heroes in Anime
Image
For years and years, anime has celebrated traditional heroes, who are noble, righteous, and have unwavering determination to fend against evil. But in reality, some of these influential characters aren’t heroes at all. These characters dwell in the grey zone where their choices don’t follow any rules, blurring the line between right and wrong. These are the unique anti-heroes of anime, whose characteristics, complex morals, and tragic pasts make them unforgettable.

While the classic protagonists are bound with goodwill and duty to serve, anti-heroes carry emotional scars and are driven by emotions of vengeance, justice, or personal loss. Whether you love them or hate them, these characters write a new definition of what it means to be a hero in their stories.

That said, here are the 6 best anime anti-heroes that have impacted the viewers in their own unforgettable, dark, and complex ways

The Anime That Inspired ‘Berserk’ and ‘Dragon Ball’ Is Finally Getting a Remake

Dragon Ball and Berserk are the two biggest names in the anime and manga community that have carried the industry for decades. However, the two series have a mutual inspiration that helped them reach the pedestal they are on today. This series is none other than Fist of the North Star, the greatest piece of art from the 80s.

The series was written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, and it first started serialization in 1983, with the anime adaptation by Toei Animation being released in 1984. The series was announced for a remake a few years ago, and it has finally received some major updates.

The updates have come in the form of a release window and key visual art depicting the upcoming anime adaptation of Fist of the North Star. These updates have appeared as a ray of light for fans who lost hope for the series getting a...

One Piece seems to be going on the Berserk route with Loki’s backstory. Spoilers of the manga’s Chapter 1153 show the image of an infant Loki attempting to scale the Adam Tree while being surrounded by the corpses of all the beasts he had slain. Gone is One Piece’s vibrant tone. We’re getting visceral now.

The scene’s grim imagery has caused several One Piece fans to compare it to the tragic birth of Guts from Berserk, and we can’t help but agree. If the story continues its tone, then Loki might become its darkest character yet, and push the series towards a darker and grittier tone.

5 underrated anime soundtracks fans need to listen to
Pokémon (1997)
Unlike the majority of Western, English-language shows — with the exception of certain cartoons — an anime's opening theme song is still a major aspect of the viewing experience. Thanks to anime production being largely based around 13-episode cours, most anime will regularly get updated opening and ending themes. On top of that, plenty of anime have been lucky enough to get talented composers who genuinely care about creating quality background music for the episodes themselves.

Although several anime on this last are iconic classics of the medium, the fact that they have such strong soundtracks may often by overlooked thanks to the other reasons for their popularity.

The original English Pokémon theme set the tone for the next three decades

Thanks to the mind-boggling popularity of the Pokémon anime, right from the very beginning, the words "I want to be the very best" got burned into a generation of young minds.

A New Berserk Anime Is Being Eyed by Netflix's Castlevania Creator: "Berserk = Mine"
Image
In a tweet that sent shockwaves through the anime and gaming community, Adi Shankar, producer behind Netflix’s Castlevania and the Devil May Cry series, declared, “Berserk = Mine. Lore = Changed. Guts = Adi Shankar Self-insert.” For fans of Kentaro Miura’s legendary dark fantasy manga, this statement has raised both eyebrows and hopes. Berserk is a revered and notoriously difficult story to adapt well, and many believe it deserves new, faithful treatment. But Shankar’s bold declaration has sparked as much caution as curiosity.

Shankar’s reputation as a passionate yet polarizing figure in geek media only complicates matters, according to fans like u/KvotheG on Reddit. Known for injecting stylized violence and emotional grit into his adaptations, his work on Castlevania season 1 was largely praised for its atmosphere, pacing, and surprisingly heartfelt story. However, the direction of later seasons, after his reduced involvement, left some fans disappointed. Now, with his sights set on Berserk,...

This Small Detail in Marvel Rivals Has Berserk Fans Losing Their Minds

It’s not unknown that the developers at NetEase are very in tune with the community when it comes to Marvel Rivals, and they don’t shy away from slipping in references from Marvel movies and comics, sometimes even going out of their way to reference non-Marvel media.

Such is the case with a small new detail discovered by the Marvel Rivals community that is entirely missable and won’t make any sense if you’re not into manga.

“Feels like a bad fever dream”: The Anime That Inspired ‘Berserk’ Still Doesn’t Let Me Sleep At Night
Image
There are plenty of anime that have served up nightmare fuel to fans for ages. Berserk is definitely one of them. But the series that it sprang from makes me almost forgive Berserk for the psychological trauma that it puts its characters through.

So if you find Berserk to be too hardcore, I would advise you to steer clear of the series that inspired it. Its world of dark fantasy with gore and dangers is nothing in front of its inspiration. The series in question is Devilman by Go Nagai.

The anime that began it all (mostly trauma)

Devilman is a manga by Go Nagai that received an anime in 1972. It is the same series that was later adapted into the Devilman Crybaby anime. In fact, the anime is actually a toned-down version by the author as demanded by Toei Animation. Instead, Nagai wrote an even darker manga to alert...

It’s Easier For ‘The Beginning After the End’ Fans to Pretend That the Anime Doesn’t Exist
Image
The Beginning After the End is, without any doubt, one of the most famous isekai works. The webnovel and webtoon (manhwa) are both extremely well-done, attracting a lot of fans. The anime, on the other hand, has been nothing but a source of profound disappointment.

When a series is bad, you hope it will improve. When it is really bad, you hope it gets a remake, but what do you do when every aspect is at the lowest standard? The animation, narrative, character development, and action? You forget it ever existed.

Some things are better left forgotten

There is a reason traumatic moments are often pushed to the bottom of your memories, not resurfacing usually. This is a method even the body uses to protect and preserve the stability of a person.

What the fans of The Beginning After the End are doing is essentially the same thing. By pretending...

'Elden Ring' Director Shares His Obssessive Levels of Research for the Live-Action Movie
Image
A24's live-action Elden Ring movie is one of the most anticipated video game adaptations currently in the works. Civil War and Warfare director, Alex Garland, is helming the adaptation of FromSoftware's bonkers and incredibly difficult video game (which was co-written by Game of Thrones' George R.R. Martin). Oftentimes, directors of video game adaptations might not have prior knowledge of the IP, and might play through the game once for research purposes. Sometimes, they don't even do that. But Garland is setting a new standard for video game movie research, and fans will be incredibly happy to hear how dedicated he is to the project.

Alex Garland recently spoke with IGN to promote the upcoming zombie horror sequel, 28 Years Later, directed by Danny Boyle, and the writer was asked about his work on the eagerly anticipated Elden Ring movie. The English writer/director bluntly noted that "I'm not...

An Anime Adaptation of the Story That Inspired Tom Cruise’s ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Is Finally Coming to Theaters
Image
Live. Die. Repeat. Over a decade ago, we became familiar with that motto when we saw Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible film series) fight for his life, only to start over after he dies multiple times in Edge of Tomorrow. What many people don't know is that the blockbuster hit is based on a light novel by Japanese author Hiroshi Sakurazaka. This year, the story is being adapted again — but this time as an anime movie. Gkids announced today that All You Need Is Kill has been acquired for distribution, and the first screening is already set up. The movie will debut at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival this weekend.

All You Need Is Killwill tell the time travel story from a different perspective than the light novel and Edge of Tomorrow. The story takes place in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, and centers around a gigantic alien plant that is...

A Dormant Fighting Game Genre Is Suddenly a Hot Commodity—and It’s About to Get Brutal
Image
Tag fighting games used to be the rockstars of arcades and living rooms alike. Then, after Dragon Ball FighterZ hit its peak in 2018, the genre basically vanished—no new hits, no hype, just silence and reruns of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on Twitch.

Now, in a twist nobody saw coming, four major tag fighters are about to drop in rapid succession. Developers are suddenly treating team-based brawling like it’s the next gold rush. If you thought tag fighting was dead, you’re about to get combo’d by reality.

The only question: which of these wild new contenders will actually stick the landing?

2025: Anime power moves and a Moba invasion

Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact kicks things off in July, and it’s already stirring up controversy before launch. Eighting, the studio behind Marvel vs. Capcom 3, is charging $60 for what looks like a budget anime fighter. The visuals scream...

Elden Ring Nightreign Is the Best Homage to the Darkest Manga That Everyone Loves
Image
FromSoftware’s latest co-op title, Elden Ring Nightreign, is somewhat similar to one of the darkest manga of all time: Berserk. It’s not just about the themes and characters that seem connected. In fact, the game seemingly echoes the shades of Berserk through its various stages and lore.

The whispers about the similarity between the two titles have been long-standing in the community. Even now, you can find several posts on Reddit discussing the resemblance between Berserk and Nightreign. Thankfully, the game hasn’t copied anything that may offend the fans of the manga. Instead, it feels much like a homage to respect the creativity of Kentaro Miura’s brilliance in penning Berserk.

What makes Elden Ring Nightreign feel like Berserk

There are a bunch of factors that solidify the similarity between Elden Ring Nightreign and Berserk. For starters, the manga is particularly famous for its dark theme, ghastly monsters,...

The Edgy Anime of the Late ‘90s-2000s: Will it Make a Comeback?
Image
There was a time in anime, approximately late ’90s to early 2000s, when it wasn’t just trying to be edgy. It was bathing in it. Blood was everywhere, trauma was the default, and fan service felt both gratuitous and oddly melancholic. If you were like me growing up at this time then anime felt like it was maturing with you… just in the most unhinged way possible! But this wasn’t just an anime thing. Music had Eminem spewing raw angst and controversy. Video Games gave us Devil May Cry and Resident Evil , all style, horror, and cool-factor. Comics had CyberSix and Witchblade , dripping with violence and latex. Wrestling hit its Attitude era, swapping our favorite cartoonish heroes for rated R crotch chops and beer-soaked chaos. Anime during this era was riding that same wave, but part of a wider movement. Almost as if to ditch its reputation of...

The Studio Behind ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Brings a Wholesome New Anime to Crunchyroll in New Trailer
Image
If there's one thing that The Apothecary Diaries taught us, it's that there's a very good portion of anime fans who are willing to get lost in stories that feel wholesome while also bringing something new to the world of animated series. With that in mind, Crunchyroll is bringing to its catalog Let's Play, a new anime series that hails from the same studio as The Apothecary Diaries. The show is slated to debut soon on the platform, and a first trailer was unveiled to provide a general feel of the upcoming anime series.

The story of Let's Play mixes slice-of-life elements with a different and possibly comedic premise. It centers on Sam Young (Kana Hanazawa), a video game developer who dedicates her time and efforts to creating the best game she possibly can. However, her world is turned upside down when a massively popular streamer gives her debut game a terrible review.

Experience this iconic 2010s anime for yourself
Image
As the Bam Smack Pow team noted in our previous coverage of the 2025 Anime Awards, this year saw Crunchyroll present its first ever Global Impact Award. This historic first win went to the iconic post-apocalyptic action series Attack on Titan. The series's win of the Global Impact Award caps off the run of the immensely acclaimed and popular series, which culminated in the theatrical finale Attack on Titan: The Last Attack that debuted in theaters in November 2024 in Japan and February 2025 in North America.

Crunchyroll itself has laid out the purpose of its Global Impact Award:

"The Global Impact Award celebrates 'visionary creators and groundbreaking works that have left an indelible mark on culture, history and the hearts of audiences around the world.' The adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s epic Attack on Titan saga that kicked off in 2014 and ran until 2023—concluding with big-screen compilation film Attack on Titan:...

‘One Punch Man’ Author Made Yusuke Murata Redraw Boros vs Saitama Because “He always retains his dignity”
Image
One Punch Man became an iconic manga series because of its simple yet exciting premise. You can’t help but cheer for Saitama, especially when he’s not the typical anime protagonist and superhero figure. It was a guaranteed success, but what solidified it amongst those who love the manga is Yusuke Murata’s illustrations.

One-sensei is the author of One Punch Man, while Murata brings it to life on paper. Their collaboration is regarded as one of the best in the manga industry. For how simple the series is, the illustrations are meticulous and have incredible detail. It rivals the likes of Berserk, to give you an idea.

It’s thanks to One-sensei’s mind and Murata’s hand that it comes to life. There are a few times when the author has advised him to redraw scenes, and it has enhanced the illustrations. One Punch Man wouldn’t...

From One Punch Man to Blue Lock: 10 Worst Animated Anime Ever Made
Image
Animation is the essence of anime; manga is a set of still panels that are put into motion in an anime. In a day and age where having movements and attacks look cool is the norm, there are some anime that fall too far short of the expected standard. This might have happened from the very beginning, or it might have been a rushed effort due to time constraints.

Be it the long-time legendary Berserk of Kentaro Miura, or the recent adaptation of popular webnovel The Beginning After The End, they all have had clear flaws in their animation. Whatever the case, here is a list of ten anime that have animation that is far worse than that of anime made several decades ago, hurting fans who dare watch them.

Possibly the worst adaptation in recent times is that of the legendary manga,...

Bleach: Tite Kubo Was Challenging Shonen Norms With Byakuya’s Bankai
Image
Tite Kubo’s Bleach is one of the Big 3 Shonen manga, which changed the genre’s landscape forever with its beautiful visuals, intricate characters, and well-written powers. The bankai, which is fundamental to Bleach‘s power system, is creative, and Byakuya Kuchiki’s bankai is the most breathtaking bankai of all. His bankai, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, is a serene yet deadly bankai that transcends stereotypes.

The bankai, while being beautiful to look at (especially in Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War), appealed to a wide audience and redefined a Shonen man. Here is a detailed review of how the bankai subverts Shonen expectations.

Shonen manga often characterizes its male characters as being tough-looking brutes who power through everything while ignoring a perfectly sane plan crafted by their companions. Think of Luffy from One Piece,...

Arthur’s Worst Quality Should Have Made ‘The Beginning After the End’ More Than Just an Average Isekai
Image
Arthur might be the protagonist of The Beginning After the End, but the series sure makes it hard to like him. Now, the anime series has garnered backlash after backlash due to just how terribly it failed to match the brilliance of the manhwa.

However, going to the point that fans turn against even the protagonist might be a new low. What makes the situation even more tragic is the very thing that should have made Arthur, and by extension, The Beginning After the End interesting, is the reason he has now become frankly intolerable. Fans, obviously, are not happy about it.

The Beginning After the End anime has successfully alienated Arthur from fans

The Beginning After the End anime series has been criticised to an inch of its life since it started airing. Which is quite tragic, as fans had massive hopes for the series. The reason behind that...

‘The Beginning After the End’ Fans Win Big as Season 1 to Reportedly End Sooner Than Expected
Image
One of the most controversial anime releases of 2025 was certainly TutleMe’s The Beginning After the End. The series carried a lot of expectations because of the fame and recognition that the original manhwa series received at the time of its release. However, the anime adaptation couldn’t fulfill these expectations and thus was subjected to heavy criticism online.

The criticism reached a point where The Beginning After the End fans started an online petition to cancel the ongoing anime and redo it completely. This might feel a little harsh, but it looks like Studio A-Cat has come across the petition and the backlash that fans had started for The Beginning After the End.

This is why they have reportedly decided to end The Beginning After the End anime series sooner than expected. This will most likely mark the end of the first season of the series, and the reports...

Manga Review: Isekai Samurai Vol. 1 (2023) by Keigo Saito
Image
With the manga scene overflowing with period pieces about Japan’s feudal past and alternate-reality fictions, Keigo Saito‘s “Isekai Samurai” makes a bold statement by picking the most abused commonplaces of Japanese popular culture and combining them into a somewhat fresh, perfectly timed action shounen manga that hooks the reader until the last page.

A skilled swordsman, perhaps the most skilled of the whole Archipelago, Tsukitsuba Ginko longs for an honorable death on the battlefield. Volunteer at the Battle of Sekigahara (1600), she is shot at very short distance but the metal headband deflects the projectile, depriving her of the last chance to die in combat. Not finding any opponent that can match her prowess, she prays the venerable soul of Buddha to grant her a life of violence to end her own existence. In the blink of an eye, Ginko...

‘Berserk’ and ‘Tokyo Ghoul’ Feel Like Masterpieces in Front of the Isekai Anime That Is Worse Than a Slideshow
Image
Anime adaptations of prominent manga and manhwa stories might not always feel like an upgrade, and this has been proven by anime series like Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk. These stories are some of the greatest projects in history, but they have consistently failed in getting a proper anime adaptation.

Now, another story has joined their ranks and, according to some fans, might even surpass them in terms of failing to adapt its manhwa source. The anime is none other than The Beginning After the End, which recently started streaming. When Tbate was announced, fans were excited for the series as it is one of the greatest manhwa stories in the world.

However, the anime produced by Studio A-Cat was a disappointment from the first episode. There are multiple aspects that contribute to the failure of the anime, but the biggest one is definitely the animation style of the series, which literally feels like a slideshow.

“Guts kidnaps Sonia, forces her to read his mind”: The Perfect Berserk Ending We Wanted From Kentaro Miura
Image
The world of manga was left in utter despair as the legendary mangaka, Kentaro Miura, passed away in 2021, at the age of 54. Because of that, he couldn’t even finish his signature work, Berserk, which is arguably the best-written piece of fiction to ever exist.

While Miura’s friend and fellow artist Kouji Mori stepped in to continue the series, you can still feel there’s something off. That unmistakable touch of Miura that made Berserk, “Berserk,” is nowhere to be found.

However, ever since then, many fans have tried to come up with their own interpretation of how Miura must have planned the ending. Recently, one such fan theory has popped up, and quite surprisingly, it has also resonated deeply with the community. This homemade conclusion might just be the perfect sendoff for Guts’ epic storyline.

Guts could use Sonia’s powers to turn her against Griffith

We already know how powerful Sonia is,...

Landmvrks' Florent Salfati: Anime and Manga are a Big Part of Who I Am
Image
With the release of The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been , French nu-metalcore giants Landmvrks have firmly planted their flag as one of the most powerful creative forces in all of heavy music. The album blends elements of metal, hardcore, and hip-hop flows, while also telling a riveting, terrifying story. This is the genre at its peak. So of course, there has to be anime involved somewhere, right? I had the chance to speak with Landmvrks frontman Florent Salfati about pushing the limits of their sound, anime fandom in France, and the ways that anime has affixed itself into his creative mind. To start things off, it’s been about four years since your last album! It seems like your fanbase has grown a lot since then, so how does it feel to have such a sense of anticipation for a new release of yours from fans around the world?...
