Pavitram (1994) : Brief Review-

Too many complexities for a family drama, but still holds till the end to make you cry. You must have seen many movies made on those emotional family melodramas where you see a much cared and adored son or daughter of the house forgets the favours his or her parents have done to nurture him or or her, once he or she is grown up adult. Sometimes it's an elder brother. Pavitram is the same old story, but with new complexities. It is pretty much like a mix of those two formulas - a father plus a brother and his sister, or more like a daughter. A young man's relationship with his career, fiancee and brother is brought under stress by the birth of an unexpected sister. He gives everything he has to raise her, but as she matures and comes into contact with the modern world, she forgets everything he has done for her. The peak of it is when she says that he hasn't actually done anything for her. Only if she knew what he had been through. She would have worshipped this man. Sadly, Pavithram never concentrates on that emotional realisation, maybe because it's too mainstream. But whatever new it tries, it doesn't really come out that effectively when it could have made it so. Recently, Bollywood saw a Super Hit like Badhaai Ho (2018), which was about the same issue but only the beginning of it, not the full story. Pavitram still feels way ahead of its time and the performances of all the actors make it a Must Watch. Especially Mohanlal. The legendary actor was in the best phase of his career, a phase that any actor can only dream of. From 1987 to 1997, these 10 years were like a heavenly period for him. He made one classic after another, and what classy performances he gave. He gets strong support from the rest of the cast members in this TK Rajeev Kumar's fine directorial and the cumulative result definitely leaves you wet-eyed.

If a movie has a solid storyline,brilliant acting,superb music,beautiful screenplay it can be categorized as one of the best..& 'PAVITHRAM' certainly falls in that category.It is one of the movies that will always be remembered for its brilliance.Outstanding acting by Mohanlal(one of the finest actors in India) is the highlight of the movie.This film is set in a village in Kerala.The movie captures your heart with every scene being lit up with brilliant acting,music..The film has one of the most solid stories ever made in malayalam movie history.Supporting roles by nedumudi venu,Thilakan,Vinduja menon,KPAC lalitha,innocent,late narendra prasad etc is simply superb.Female lead,Shobhana is brilliant.Music is composed by Sharath which is outstanding..PAVITHRAM has a story that is realistic..

Overall this is a beautiful movie..Everybody who has a heart that cares will love this..One of the best movie I've seen till date..Mohanlal's performance will glue you towards this movie for sure...I rate it 10/10...

One of the best ever movies in Malayalam(Indian cinema actually).. Brilliant acting by Mohanlal(He is India's best ever actor).... It deals with the relationship between a brother and his very young sister.. This sister is born at a time when Mohanlal is already ready for marriage and his mother dies during childbirth.. Mohanlal forgoes his love life and marriage plans as his dad also deserts him and decides to take care of his young sister's upbringing... But as she grows big she goes to a city for college studies and soon the city culture gets embedded inside her.. Her aunt(Mohanlal's brother's wife) who had not even cared for her when she was young now becomes close her and is a big reason for this change.. Mohanlal becomes very sad and depressed on the changes which the city life brings upon his sister.. The climax will definitely leave you crying!!!!!!!!!!! He sacrifices everything for his sister and in the end loses her.. She does realize all her mistakes and comes back to him at the end.. But by that time Mohanlal has become mentally unstable and doesn't even recognize her..... 10/10....

No words. Mohanlals acting was its best. A movie which will make you go through a emotional breakdown

One of the great malayalam film.once again Mohanlal proved that why he is called as complete actor. He comes in two getup in this film. Romance, comedy, family... everything is in its finest. But family sentiments is given more important in the film.

A must watch movie from Mollywood. You will understand why Mohanlal is one of the best actor in the country. Nothing more to say. MUST WATCH.

All acted well accordingly and mohanlal as always he did in 80s and 90s just nailed it especially in the last 30 minutes.
