Still trying to figure this out. The last scene shows each character's true appearance in "Sedah" and yet the slick shape-changer "Satan" isn't there. Surely he's a satanic minion, since he's not the Devil himself. Or was he merely an image of Delazo's power to deceive? I'll have to go back and see if the two characters ever appear together. Even if they do, it's possible the Devil can appear as two separate beings united, since the LORD appears as three.

This is possibly the most important question of the film. I believe Eriq La Salle's character, The Man, is not present because because he was simply Dr. Ty Adams' need to externalize his inequity, pride, failure, and sins. The Man is that part of Dr. Adams which Dr. Adams cannot accept. Dr. Delazo is the real Devil and ruler of Hades. This is the answer to question, why does Satan punish sinners her is supposed to love in order to prove a point to a God he is supposed to hate. The man says he was born the moment men and women decided they could not handle responsibility for their own sins and evil because they needed to blame someone else. Satan was born when people needed a scapegoat. Dr. Delazo tells Dr. Adams, "I know you'd rather kill yourself than admit you were wrong..." Dr. Adams did kill himself because he could not admit his responsibility for the deaths of his wife and daughter. Dr. Adams was alone in Hell insisting, "I am a good man," because his deadly sin, Pride, would allow nothing else. But what the hell do I know?
