Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake (Ed Leslie) was originally supposed to be the challenger for the WWF Intercontinental Championship against Mr. Perfect (Curt Hennig). But on July 4th, Beefcake was injured in a para-sailing accident in Lutz, Florida, causing him to have nine hours of surgery done on his face, forcing Vince McMahon to take Beefcake out of the match. As a result, Kerry Von Erich was brought in as a substitute for Beefcake, and won the title.
First WWF PPV in which the Hart Foundation wear jackets to the ring. Weeks before the PPV, Bret Hart showed Jim Neidhart a photograph of a chimpanzee wearing an army jacket with adorned shoulder fringe, something akin to a Sgt. Pepper's coat. Bret told Neidhart that this was going to be their new look come the PPV.
A few sources have stated that Ravishing Rick Rude was furious after discovering what the Ultimate Warrior was paid for their steel cage title match at SummerSlam and that was mainly the reason Rude left the WWF.
Shawn Michaels, prior to his match, was attacked by Hercules (Ray Hernandez) with a chain seemingly leaving Marty Jannetty to fight both members of Power and Glory (Hercules and Paul Roma (Paul Centopani) by himself. By the end of the match, Michaels came back to defend Jannetty, but ended up having to be stretchered out after Power and Glory attacked him again. In reality, Michaels had injured his ACL during a match against the Orient Express (Akio Sato and Pat Tanaka) at a house show in Augusta, Georgia on August 4th. Michaels claims in his 2005 autobiography "Heartbreak and Triumph" that the injury occurred in a motorcycle accident mere days before the PPV. However, Michaels' injury was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter right after it occurred, and subsequent house show results would prove that Michaels was out of action for weeks before the PPV, while Jannetty would either work singles matches or team with Shane Douglas throughout August.
Tito Santana (Merced Solis) was originally meant to face "The Model" Rick Martel, but Martel was injured and was replaced by The Warlord (Terry Szopinski), who won. The storyline reason for Martel's absence was that he was attending a fashion show in Paris, France.
