Why Oscar-Winner Mikey Madison Turned Down Ryan Gosling's Star Wars Movie
Image
In April of 2025, /Film reported that director Shawn Levy, the Hollywood journeyman behind "Big Fat Liar," "The Pink Panther," "Real Steel," and "Deadpool & Wolverine," will be overseeing a brand new "Star Wars" film called "Star Wars: Starfighter." Little is known about the project at this juncture, other than it will star Ryan Gosling as a heretofore unknown character, and that it will be set after the events of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." The vast bulk of the "Star Wars" projects made by Disney since its acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012 have been flashbacks, prequels, or interquels, so "Starfighter" will be the first "Star Wars" film since 2019 to push the timeline forward.

Mikey Madison, the Academy Award-winning star of Sean Baker's "Anora," was reportedly approached to play a role in "Starfighter" as well. Evidently, she was being tapped to play the film's central villainess. Madison was a rising...

10 Best Amanda Bynes Movies And TV Shows, Ranked
Image
Hollywood has seen plenty of child stars come and go, their talents spent on any number of teen sitcoms and romantic comedies before life -- and in many cases tragedy -- pulled them in a different direction. But few if any were as remarkable in their genuine comedic talent as Amanda Bynes, the former Nickelodeon star who disappeared from Hollywood just as she was crossing into a career as a mainstream film actor.

Bynes cut her teeth as a stand-up comic at a very young age before joining the Nick family, frequently working with Dan Schneider, the infamous writer, creator, and mega-producer responsible for a massive portion of the network's success -- he's also the subject of all of Nickelodeon's most harrowing allegations of misconduct and abuse. After working on several projects with Schneider, Bynes appeared in a few movies outside his direct sphere of influence before taking a step back from the entertainment industry.

Taran Killam Praises Amanda Bynes For Giving Him “My First Job”: “Truly One Of The Best”
Image
From The Amanda Show to Saturday Night Live, Taran Killam is reflecting on the sketch comedy pipeline that paved the way for his current career.

The actor and comedian recently praised Amanda Bynes as “one of the most talented people I’ve ever met,” expressing his gratitude for her helping launch his “grown-up acting career” when she cast him on her Nickelodeon variety show, which ran for three seasons from 1999 to 2002.

“It was my first job, literally the last week of high school I got cast on her show,” he recalled on the Fly on the Wall podcast. “We worked together for three weeks then. I went away to college, I didn’t have an agent anymore, I was focused on school. They called me back to do more, they helped me get an agent.”

Killam made his debut on The Amanda Show in 2000, playing the lovesick Spalding in the...

Hollywood is the entertainment capital of the world of entertainment and for many, it is a lifelong dream to make it in the cutthroat world of Tinseltown. Even though it is hard to say relevant for it requires an unprecedented amount of dedication, resilience, and hard work, the fame, acclaim, and money make it all worth it in the end. So, even though it is hard to reach the top, some would literally make a deal with the devil to remain in the game.

Amanda Bynes's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
Amanda Bynes was just about everywhere in the late 1990s and early 2000s thanks to her presence on Nickelodeon, but not all of her best movies and TV shows were part of the children’s network. Nickelodeon certainly provided Bynes with her big break thanks to appearances in the children’s sketch comedy series All That, but she also branched out into teen rom-coms and even musicals as she got older.

These days, Amanda Bynes is not acting anymore. After some mental health struggles, it appears that staying out of the Hollywood limelight is what works for Bynes. She has been active on social media as she dabbles in other creative fields, like fashion design and more traditional art, but her fans can still relive her time as an actor with the best movie and TV projects that Bynes made during her career.

Why Frankie Muniz Disappeared From Hollywood
Image
If you were a kid around Y2K, chances are Frankie Muniz was a mainstay on your TV set. The New Jersey-born actor made his breakthrough at a young age, playing smartass kid genius Malcolm in the boisterous family sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle." The Fox show was a major hit that built its brand on the unstoppable hijinks of the Wilkerson clan, a working poor family raising five boys. Malcolm was, of course, the middle kid, and he often addressed the camera directly with his signature sardonic commentary.

"Malcolm in the Middle" made Muniz a household name, and he appeared in several high-profile movies and even headlined his own action franchise as a young adult. Eventually, his star power rose so much that the majority of roles in his TV filmography are just titled "himself," where he showed up as some version of Frankie Muniz in shows like "Arrested Development,...

Frankie Muniz Felt “Really Sad” About the “Sacrifice” His Family Made for His Acting Career
Image
Frankie Muniz is opening up about how his child-star fame influenced him and his family.

The Malcolm in the Middle star recalled, on Tuesday’s edition of the Inside of You podcast, how when his career started to take off, it took a toll on his family because they had to move across the country.

Before Muniz’s role on the hit TV show, his parents got divorced and he decided to live with his mom in New Jersey. Muniz’s sister first lived with their dad before eventually moving in with their mom, too. However, shortly before he landed the role of Malcolm, they had to move again which caused a “weird dynamic.”

“It was the first time I thought about the past enough to think about the sacrifice that people made, and it made me really sad,” Muniz said.

However, his time on Malcolm earned him an Emmy...

Why Amanda Bynes Disappeared From Hollywood
Image
Amanda Bynes had always been a natural performer. She began acting as a child, appearing in several TV commercials, demonstratively oohing and ahhing over the Cut N' Style Barbie or snacking on Buncha Crunch to a variation of the "Addams Family" theme music. At school, she appeared in the musicals "Annie," "The Sound of Music," and "The Music Man." She was bitten by the theater bug early on.

Bynes experienced her big break in 1996 when she joined the cast of the hit sketch comedy series "All That" on Nickelodeon. She was 10. "All That" ran for a whopping 11 seasons from 1994 to 2005 and proved to be a stamping ground for up-and-coming talents, serving sort-of as a junior version of "Saturday Night Live." Keenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Jamie Lynn Spears, and Nick Cannon also broke out thanks to the popularity of "All That." Bynes was a regular cast member for the show's third through sixth seasons,...

What Happened To Amanda Bynes?
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag. Amanda Bynes left acting after Easy A in 2010 due to body image issues, leading her to focus on mental health recovery. Bynes experienced substance abuse, struggles with Bipolar Disorder, and was under a conservatorship for her well-being. Despite no recent acting roles, Bynes graduated from Fidm in 2019 and is open to a return to the industry. Growth continues.

Amanda Bynes was once the darling of American teen comedy, but she hasn't played in a movie in several years. The actor's last moment in the limelight was with the release of Easy A in 2010, but since then, she hasn't taken on any new acting roles. Instead, it seems Bynes has been focusing on her mental health recovery, though there's always a possibility that we will see the teen icon again in roles down the road.

Planet Of The Apes: Paul Giamatti Fought His Agents On His Casting In The Tim Burton Movie "I'll F**king Kill You All."
Image
Featuring a star-studded cast of actors, Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes remake focuses on impressive sets and makeup for a B-movie vibe. Paul Giamatti's role as Limbo in the film showcases his dedication to transforming his appearance for an impactful performance. Despite initial doubts from his agents, Giamatti's commitment to playing an ape in the franchise highlights his love for Planet of the Apes movies.

Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes features a large cast of notable actors and actresses, many covered in ape costuming and makeup, and Paul Giamatti had a lot to say about that. The 2001 Planet of the Apes is the sixth film in the Planet of the Apes movie franchise and the first remake of the series. Unlike the previous Apes movies, Tim Burton's is not as interested in a grand political or societal statement, and the remake instead operates as a B-movie...

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy on creative empowerment and secrets to success
Image
Films directed by Shawn Levy – a list that includes Big Fat Liar, Just Married, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, the Night at the Museum trilogy, Date Night, Real Steel, and Free Guy, among others – have earned about 3 billion dollars at the global box office, and that number is likely to receive a substantial boost with the release of Levy’s contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine, this weekend. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Levy revealed his five “secrets to success” and discussed the creative empowerment he felt while working with Marvel Studios.

While it’s often assumed that Marvel micromanages their productions and doesn’t give directors space to be creative, Levy said, “Contrary to so many assumptions out there, and even within myself before I had this experience, I’ve been arguably more creatively empowered and trusted on this movie than just about...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Director Shawn Levy: Hollywood’s PG Guy Finds His Edge
Image
Shawn Levy has long chafed at the labels Hollywood has placed upon him.

That helps explain the evolution of the Montreal-born filmmaker from go-to family comedy guy (Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen) to the producer of cerebral Oscar winners (Arrival) and cultural behemoths (Stranger Things).

After a string of successes in the aughts, Levy branched out with the 2011 Amblin-esque feature Real Steel, which earned nearly $300 million globally and showed he could bring his trademark emotionality to the action sphere. It also teamed him with Hugh Jackman, who, like others who have worked with the producer-director, says he creates an empathetic environment on set. “There isn’t one scene that necessarily was ‘the moment we clicked,’ ” Jackman recalls. “It was more a feeling on Real Steel that it made me know this was going to be a lifelong friendship.”

After the death of his Museum star Robin Williams...

The 10 Best Blockbuster Performances By Character Actors, Ranked
Image
This week marks the arrival of "Twisters" (read /Film's review), a sequel arriving nearly three decades after the original blockbuster hit "Twister." Because of how much time has elapsed between films, the cast for "Twisters" is entirely different. Although "Twisters," like its predecessor, boasts plenty of flashy special effects to create the sensation of powerful tornadoes popping up throughout Oklahoma as it tracks different groups of storm chasers trying to wrangle these bouts of Mother Nature's anger, the film doesn't quite live up to the secret weapon that "Twister" had: surprisingly committed character actors delivering better-than-needed supporting performances. But character actors popping up to steal the show in big-budget blockbusters isn't unique to "Twister" or its sequel, so let's rank the 10 best blockbuster performances by character actors.

Big Fat Liar: How Blue Paul Giamatti Defined My Entire Childhood
Image
Paul Giamatti's role in Big Fat Liar made me appreciate his talent more than ever before. The film may not be his best, but it kickstarted Giamatti's rise to stardom in Hollywood. Giamatti's range as an actor can be seen in his explosive anger and soft, sweet sides in various performances.

Before I even saw Big Fat Liar, I knew it would be a defining movie of my younger years, and that was without even knowing who Paul Giamatti was. Big Fat Liar came out in February 2002, starring two of the most important people in my life at the time: Amanda Bynes and Frankie Muniz. Amanda Bynes was the Nickelodeon it girl, a newcomer on All That; so popular she got her own, and I think better, sketch show The Amanda Show. What's funnier than ending a courtroom session with a bunch of dancing lobsters?

Paul Giamatti's Weirdest Movie Ever Is Strangely Similar To His 2023 Oscar-Nominated Hit
Image
Giamatti's versatility shines in "The Holdovers" & "Big Fat Liar," with both films' similar themes but different genres. Both films focus on the theft of ideas and plagiarism, highlighting Giamatti's interactions with younger characters. Giamatti is a versatile actor, delivering nuanced performances in serious roles and comedic flair in films like "Big Fat Liar."

Paul Giamatti's Oscar-nominated The Holdovers features a lot of surprising similarities with his weirdest movie yet. Giamatti has played a number of different characters over the course of his career, highlighting an impressive range in supporting and central roles alike. Some of his best performances have been highly acclaimed, earning him nominations for Academy Awards as well as several Emmys and Golden Globes. The nuance he brings to his The Holdovers character is impressive, but he's just as effective when using his considerable talents for comedy, as in Private Parts or Sideways.

Hostel | Paul Giamatti to star in TV adaptation of Eli Roth’s horror franchise
Paul Giamatti
Paul Giamatti will star in a TV version of Eli Roth’s grisly Hostel franchise. Both Roth and the films’ original producers will be involved in the new series.

A gold star to anyone who saw this coming.

Paul Giamatti, of Billions and Big Fat Liar fame, as well as his collaborations with Alexander Payne including Sideways and this year’s wonderful drama The Holdovers (pictured), is starring in a television version of Eli Roth’s Hostel, which is not a sentence I expected to type today.

It seems this collaboration has been on the cards for some time. Giamatti told Entertainment Weekly in a 2013 interview that “Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague and I was shooting The Illusionist and I met him. We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie but it never panned out”.

Hostel is a film often, and perhaps quite rightly in the case of its sequel,...

Deadline hears that Levy has been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, though sources add that he has not given an answer on whether he will take the job, and the studio is still planning to meet with other directors while they wait on a decision from him.

Marvel Studios could not be reached for comment.

We can’t say for sure that Levy will take the job; he expects to be heavily involved as a director and executive producer of the final season of Netflix’s signature series Stranger Things, and there is also a Star Wars film in his future. Still,...

Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).

Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28

Here’s everything else coming to Netflix this month. Note that Netflix marks its international offerings with that respective country’s two-letter country code.

Paul Giamatti's surprising next movie role will be in Downton Abbey 3, following his well-received performance in The Holdovers. Fans are scratching their heads over Giamatti's decision to reprise a minor role in Downton Abbey 3 after his award season successes. While Giamatti's return to Downton Abbey 3 is unexpected, his talent will undoubtedly shine in this follow-up to The Holdovers.

Paul Giamatti is set to appear in his first new movie after being nominated at the Oscars for The Holdovers, but the pick is entirely unexpected. Paul Giamatti received all kinds of praise for his role in The Holdovers, with it being one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2023. Whats Up With Paul Giamattis Eye In The Holdovers? Mr. Hunhams Lazy Eye Detail Explained
Image
The lazy eye detail in The Holdovers is a deliberate choice for Paul Giamatti's character, adding depth and uniqueness to Mr. Hunham. Paul Giamatti revealed that the lazy eye effect was achieved with a special contact lens, making him blind in one eye throughout filming. The lazy eye serves as a metaphor for the struggle to see eye to eye between Mr. Hunham and student Angus, showing their growth and understanding.

Mr. Hunhams lazy eye is a distinctive characteristic of Paul Giamattis character in The Holdovers, but there is more to be seen behind the curious detail. Giamatti took home a Golden Globe for his performance as Mr. Hunham, a strict and strange teacher at an all-boys boarding school in 1970. When troubled student Angus (Dominic Sessa in his acting debut) has to stay on campus for the winter holidays, a reluctant Mr. Hunham watches over him. The teacher-student duo butt heads often,...

Frankie Muniz Says ‘I Walked Off’ the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Set and Missed Two Episodes When ‘Everyone Was So Afraid to Stand Up’ Against Disrespect
Image
Frankie Muniz shared on the latest episode of “I’m a Celebrity Australia” (via News.com.au) that he once “walked off” the set of his beloved Fox sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” when everyone else was refusing to stand up to certain people who were “controlling or rude or disrespectful.” Muniz starred on the comedy as the eponymous child genius for seven seasons, but he missed two episodes because of his decision.

“There were two episodes I’m not in. I walked off the set,” Muniz said, explaining that his actions were due to set tensions. “Everyone was so afraid to stand up when certain people were controlling or rude or disrespectful. Like they walked on pins and needles. I was so mortified by seeing people afraid to stand up for themselves, I was like: ‘Say something.’”

“I didn’t care if they told me I was never going back,...

News.com.au website reports that the American former actor was sharing confidences with his campmates in I’m A Celebrity Australia when he revealed:

“There were two episodes I’m not in. I walked off the set.” And he explained his actions were because tension on set had reached a boiling point, because of the behavior of other “certain people.”

10 Movies & TV Shows You Totally Forgot Amanda Bynes Had A Role In
Image
Amanda Bynes had a prolific career on Nickelodeon in the late 90s, appearing in shows like Figure It Out and Rugrats. Despite notable roles in films like What A Girl Wants, her last appearance was in Easy A in 2010, portraying a Christian antagonist. Bynes showed her versatility by voice acting in animated films like Robots and taking on a comedic role in Hairspray as Penny Lou Pingleton.

As a child actor in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Amanda Bynes was among the most recognizable and popular actors in the world. Bynes only has 20 official credits to her name, but some of those credits account for more than 100 episodes of television. In the early days of her career, Bynes got her big break thanks to Nickelodeon, so she's likely recognizable to those who came of age around the turn of the century for her prolific work for the network, including commercials and award show appearances.

Frankie Muniz on Why He’d Never Let His Son Become a Child Actor: “Insanely Negative Experiences”
Image
Frankie Muniz is opening up about his experience as a child actor and why he would “never” let his son follow in his footsteps.

The actor-turned-nascar driver told Pedestrian TV in an interview shared on TikTok Sunday that he wouldn’t let his son Mauz, who’s currently 3 years old, start working as an actor at a young age because “it’s an ugly world in general.”

“I would never let my kid go into the business,” Muniz said. “And not that I had a negative experience, because to be honest, my experience was 100 percent positive. But I know so many people, friends that were close to me, that had such insanely negative experiences.”

“I just think it’s an ugly world in general,” he added. “I never cared about rejection, but there’s a ton of rejection.”

Muniz, who shares his son with wife Paige Price, rose to fame...

Rumors: Shawn Levy To Get More MCU Projects
Image
Marvel Studios currently has several movies in development, with one of the most notable being ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on early comments from viewers, it’s expected to rejuvenate faith in the MCU among fans.

Reportedly, this movie was chosen as the sole release for 2024 following disappointing performances of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’

According to Daniel Richtman, a well-known source, director Shawn Levy has impressed MCU executives, leading to expectations of more projects for him in the future.

Shawn Levy began his career directing television and gained fame in the 2000s with comedies like ‘Big Fat Liar’ and ‘Just Married.’ He went on to helm successful franchises such as ‘Cheaper by the Dozen,’ ‘The Pink Panther,’ and ‘Night at the Museum.’ In the early 2010s, Levy directed ‘Date Night’ and ‘Real Steel,’ alongside developing TV pilots and producing ‘Last Man Standing.’

He received an Academy Award...

Shawn Levy to Reportedly Get More Marvel Projects
Image
Marvel Studios has quite a few movies currently in development or rumored to be currently in development and one of the most notable ones is certainly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on the comments so far from the people who have seen parts of the movie, it’s going to be an McU-saver and restore the faith of the fans in the franchise as a whole.

Reportedly, that was the reason why it was selected to be the only movie to release in 2024 following the abysmal results of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ movies that barely scraped by when it comes to the box office.

Now according to Daniel Richtman, notable scooper and leaker, the movie’s director Shawn Levy impressed the execs of MCU and we can expect him to get more projects down the line.

Paul Giamatti’s Best Performances: ‘The Holdovers,’ ‘Sideways,’ ‘Private Life,’ and More
Image
If there’s one word to describe Paul Giamatti’s most common type of role, it’s “curmudgeon.” The Yale-trained actor has the extraordinary range needed to take on various parts, but his most famous characters tend to have sharp minds and even sharper tongues. His most acclaimed roles, like the wine aficionado Miles in “Sideways,” are irritable and short-tempered with an arrogance and wit that masks their more sensitive interiors.

Giamatti’s latest role leans into that casting type harder than almost any of his other parts, and has clinched the actor his first ever Best Actor nomination. In “The Holdovers,” which reunites Giamatti with “Sideways” director Alexander Payne, the actor is at his surliest as Paul Hunham: a stuffy and strict English professor at an all-boys boarding school. The ’70s throwback Christmas comedy is an astonishing actor showcase for Giamatti, as well as his two co-stars Dominic Sessa and Da’Vine Joy Randolph,...

How A Phone Charger Led To The Creation Of Shawn Levy's Real Steel
Image
Shawn Levy's 2011 sci-fi film "Real Steel" takes place in the near future of 2020 when boxing and Mma have been banned, having been replaced by high-octane robot fights. Robot "trainers" buy up powerful, tank-like fighting bots, program their unique fighting moves prior to a match, and then pit them against each other in outsize, heavily sponsored arenas. The robot to remain un-smashed is declared the victor. Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer turned robot trainer who aims to purchase a high-profile robot called Noisy Boy and relive his glory days, but his attempts fail. Instead, he begins seeing potential in a battered, unassuming, out-of-date sparring robot named Atom salvaged from a dump. The robots in "Real Steel" aren't alive, but Levy does throw in a handful of shots implying that Atom may be ... feeling something.

"Real Steel" wasn't talked about a lot upon its release, and only opened to $27 million domestically.

Paul Giamatti Flustered, Meryl Streep’s Surprise Appearance and 3 Other Notable Moments From the Palm Springs Film Festival 2024
Mary Hart
After a year that saw actors hit the picket lines for four months, it’s no surprise that the awards season has felt more urgent and emotional than previous years. That was no more apparent than at the 35th annual Annual Palm Springs International Film Awards Thursday. The event, hosted by Mary Hart, honored 9 acting nominees and one feature film (Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon”) that, no doubt, we’ll be hearing more of in the coming months.

The night was filled with tears and laughter, starting with Danielle Brooks, who won the Spotlight Actress Award for her role as Sofia in “The Color Purple.” The actress gave Oprah Winfrey a shout-out, praising her for taking Steven Spielberg’s advice while making the 1985 film and not losing weight. For Brooks, it allowed curvy women to feel they had a space in Hollywood. She also talked about the...

Paul Giamatti Threatened His Agents Over Tim Burton's Planet Of The Apes
Image
One can't say much to defend the clunky script or the bad casting decisions for Tim Burton's 2001 film adaptation of Pierre Boulle's "Planet of the Apes." Not only did Burton's film alter the story of the original novel into something far less poignant, but Mark Wahlberg didn't project the "square-jawed space hero" archetype that his character was clearly written as. Estella Warren and Kris Kristofferson also didn't fare well as put-upon wilderness dwellers, coming across as dainty weekend warriors who had never been camping before.

Where Burton's film excels, however, is the ape design. The makeup effects by Rick Baker are some of the best in cinema history, looking eerily natural on the faces of previously recognizable actors. Additionally, the ape cast went through extensive movement training and their chimpanzee, gorilla, and orangutan body movements are impressive and convincing.

The ape cast also did its job with aplomb.

This Is Where I Leave You: Why Shawn Levy’s Critical Misfire Is One of His Best Movies
Image
Shawn Levy's film This Is Where I Leave You marks a turning point in his career, showcasing his ability to balance comedy and drama. The film's humor is dry and grounded, reminiscent of Jason Reitman's style, and never undermines emotional moments with unnecessary jokes. The chemistry among the main cast, particularly the core quartet of siblings, adds to the relatability and authenticity of the film's portrayal of family dynamics.

Shawn Levy has a lot on his plate at the moment. Besides recently releasing All the Light We Cannot See on Netflix, he’s also in the thick of Deadpool 3 and the final season of Stranger Things, two properties that people will chomp at the bit for the tiniest new sliver of information they can get. It’s hard to believe that a director who has gone on to become a filmmaker of major blockbuster films – more impressively,...

Big Fat Liar Showed Paul Giamatti's Comedic Genius
Image
Once upon a time, Hollywood did not take the talents of Paul Giamatti as seriously as we take them today. Though this Oscar-nominated actor has been working in Hollywood since the 1990s making appearances in hit films like Saving Private Ryan and The Truman Show, it wasn’t until the 2000s that audiences really began to see him for the leading man he would become. Prior to then, Giamatti was featured in comedic supporting roles in movies such as Private Parts and Big Momma’s House. However, it’s not until he took on the role of evil movie screenwriter-producer Marty Wolf in Big Fat Liar that audiences were given a true showcase of his talents.

Shawn Levy To Be Honored With TIFF Inaugural Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award
Image
The Toronto International Film Festival will honor one of Canada’s own, Montreal native Shawn Levy, with the inaugural Norman Jewison Award, also named after another Canadian great filmmaker.

The Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award is presented by The Budman Family, and recognizes Canadians in the film industry who have made a global impact with their careers. The awards presentation will take place at the TIFF Tribute Awards gala fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Levy originally set about pursuing a career in acting, attending Yale University. He turned to directing and received an Mfa from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1994. One of Levy’s first acting gigs was the low-budget horror 1987 movie, Zombie Nightmare, which got poked at on an episode of Comedy Central’s Mystery Science Theater 3000.
