A Transitional Event Featuring Much New Talent

More than any other period to this point in Wrestlemania history, it seems as if the entire WWF roster changed from VI to VII. Yet, it is pretty much a change for the better, as older, less relevant wrestlers take a back seat to a whole new generation.

The highlights of this event for me include:

-The British Bulldog (always a fan-favorite) in a singles match with The Warlord. -The Hart Foundation (now solidly in the babyface camp) taking on the new Nasty Boys tag team. -The first WM appearance for The Undertaker (with Paul Bearer, of course!) -The epic "retirement match" between "Macho King" Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior. Probably the best overall match of the entire event in terms of both execution and excitement. -Mr. Perfect, one of the greatest technical wrestlers the WWF had ever seen, against the Big Boss Man, who could execute moves very well for a big guy and had a great persona to boot. -Even the Virgil/DiBiase feud was kind of fun.

Ironically enough, however, the reason I can't give Wrestlemania VII the full five stars is because the final Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter match just isn't very good at all. The buildup is incredible and it may have been one of the most publicized matches of all-time playing on the tensions surrounding the Gulf War at the time, but the match just doesn't live up to the hype. Nowhere near the Hulk/Warrior clash of a year earlier.

There is also a shakeup in the broadcast booth for this event, with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan replacing Jesse "The Body" Ventura beside Gorilla Monsoon. I have always thought that "The Body" was one of the best color commentators the WWF ever had, and while "The Brain" is okay, that great Monsoon/Ventura chemistry is no longer apparent.

Overall, though, this is a solid Wrestlemania. What it lacks in a "grand finale" it more than makes up for with an infusion of new, fresh talent into the business.

    Wrestlemania 7: An underrated classic!

First off, yes, the Slaughter/Iraq angle was stupid. But the Heat for the main event was off the charts and, shockingly, Slaughter carries Hogan to a decent match! The Warrior vs Savage is one of the best booked matches in history, and to not enjoy it is a travesty! A 5 star classic for sure. Some other bright spots included a great opener between the Rockers/Haku & Barbarian. Bulldog/Warlord was also much better than expected! Surprise appearances for Elizabeth & Andre the Giant just added to the big event feel here!

Sure, there was a lot of filler at this show too, but its still a fun card and was the first Wrestlemania I ever got to see.

A must to see for sure!

Not the best Wrestlemania, but not the worst.

If you look at the match listing for Wrestlemania VII, you're probably going to think, "Wow, there are a ton of WWF Superstars on this event. Don't be fooled. Guys like the Texas Tornado, who was an Intercontinental Champion, didn't get much match time. Demolition, a huge draw for years in the WWF, seem boring and not quite the same tag team you would've seen years before.

Now that doesn't mean there aren't quality matches on this event. The Blindfold Match between Jake Roberts and Rick Martel was pretty good, especially if you haven't seen it before. The British Bulldog/Warlord match was worth it. The Rockers/Barbarian & Haku match was a great starter. Of course you have the Ultimate Warrior vs. Macho King Randy Savage. Now I've read mixed reviews about this match. I'd say it's the Ultimate Warrior's greatest match. I think anyone can enjoy this match, but because the Ultimate Warrior didn't have the best ring skills, a lot of people are quick to write off anything he does. All in all, this match is very entertaining and one of the best on this event. The Slaughter/Hogan match wasn't all that, but because it was a patriotic, USA vs Iraq match, it worked for the time. People in 1991 were into it because, we were at war. Overall, it's no classic, but it worked for the time.

Wrestlemania VII isn't the best Wrestlemania, but it's definitely not the worst. I'd say the average wrestling fan can appreciate what comes out of this event.

    A definite classic

Wrestlemania 7 is one of the all time classic-wrestling events, and is well worth watching, especially for those who like a bit of nostalgia.

Its great to watch because these are some of the classic wrestling stars in their prime. Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Mr Perfect, Andre the Giant and the Legion of doom are all here.

Macho Man Randy Savage versus the Ultimate Warrior in a loser must retire match is one of the all time classics, this match had everything - they told a great story and the ending was the icing on the cake, and a perfect way to end someone's career, (although these stipulations are never honoured, just look how many times the McMahon's have been `fired' or have lost these type of matches in recent years).

There are some other great matches on here, including the Nasty Boys versus the Hart Foundation, Mr Perfect (one of my personal favourites) versus The Big Boss Man, and although it was a silly idea, Jake the Snake versus Rick Martel in a blindfold match provided a fair bit of entertainment. The main event was Hulk Hogan versus Sgt Slaughter for the Title.

Plenty of the legends are here, and although some weren't used properly on the night (demolition), it still made for a great event and is well worth watching now to see how great things were, before the McMahons decided that they were the real stars.

No feuds really settled but one

i really enjoyed this at the time e my first wrestlemania but looking back a complete waste it had probably the most enjoyable match ever Warrior Savage but the main event result was never in doubt this made the match completely unentertaining. Wrestlemania should where all feuds are settled instead of meaningless matches like bulldog warlord etc.A better card would have been Demolition vs l.o.d, Perfect Tornado rematch Rockers vs hartfoundation Jake vs model Undertaker vs hogan for the title. sgt should

have never won it. With talent like Dibiase and Earthquake around why bother giving sgt the title people would rather see a title match they cannot predict than hogan winning again

    • Curiosidades
Randy Savage reunited on-screen with Elizabeth after his match and made marriage plans with her shortly after. In reality, he had been married to Elizabeth for seven years up to this point and divorced her a year later.
    • Erros de gravação
As the referees are placing the blindfold hoods over Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Rick "The Model" Martel before their match, the camera does a close up shot of Jake as he reaches into his mask to adjust it. Clearly showing two mesh eye holes in the hood to allow the wrestler to see.

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts: The blind leading the blind? Even a fool knows that a man has only five senses. Snakes? We have six. We *always* do it better in the dark.

    • Versões alternativas
The DVD version edited out any reference to "WWF". The DVD version also replaced the entrance themes for a number of wrestlers. This was likely done because of song rights. They were:
      • Jimmy Snuka
      • Demolition (Crush and Smash)
      • Tenyru & Kitao
      • Big Boss Man: "Hard Time" replaced with the song that eventually became his music when he returned in 1998 to 2002.
