Bret Hart and Steve Austin would later confess that their match at WrestleMania 13 was their personal favorite. Austin has stated many times that his match with Bret helped make him the great WWE Legend he is perceived to be.
In his autobiography, Bret Hart claims that the original plans for this event were that he would challenge Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship, a rematch from the previous year's WrestleMania, and defeat him for the title. However, Michaels injured his knee and was forced to surrender the title, therefore forcing a change of plan. Hart believes that Michaels faked the injury in order to get out of having to lose to him. Thus, when Hart confronts Michaels before the Undertaker/Sid match, he is expressing his true feelings, more or less.
It's sometimes believed that Steve Austin had not bled in a match before and that that was why Bret Hart bladed him rather than Austin doing it himself (which is customary). Austin in fact had bladed many times in his WCW career. The reason Hart did it for him in this match is because the WWF had a no-blood rule at the time and Hart felt that as a long-since established star he was safer from consequences than the still up-and-coming Austin. Both men agreed that the match finish would be dramatically enhanced if Austin "got colour."

Last WrestleMania appearance for Bret Hart until WrestleMania 26. He was invited to participate but declined to appear at WrestleMania 22 but appeared the night before for which he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
