I watched this film in disbelief that anyone would choose Jaws 3 and remake it!......Of course they rip off other shark movies along the way but the "highlight" was when our hero is on the beach watching people surfing and swimming and the film-makers actually have the nerve to copy the reverse dolly shot as used in jaws when Brodie sees the shark attack. Spielberg should sue them! Having said that the film is not that bad......The two main leads are OK and could go on to do better movies. All the Hollywood films Creature Features are at least good for a laugh in a cheap and cheerful way. But Jaws this aint!
There isn't much good to say about Shark Attack II if you ask me. One of the nicest things you will probably hear me say about this film is: 'Ive seen worse.' which by the way is the absolute truth. But unfortunately having seen worse is not an excuse for poor film-making. The acting, while bad is certainly as abominable in a way that will make you laugh throughout the film. I'll give the filmmakers that, but basically THAT'S IT. That's all the credit I'll give them...plus that they shot some nice shark footage perhaps. When the evil beasts get into action gear it becomes a whole other story though: you can actually see cardboard shark-heads on those occasions...which is really sad. I mean Jaws (30 years ago my friends) had better shark effect than this film, so if you're into watching a shark hunting exercise I suggest you watch that one (again). If you're drawn by the story (yes they pretend to have one) about genetically mutated sharks I suggest you stick to Deep Blue Sea, which has a somewhat similar premise and to be honest, this one could actually have been 'Deep Blue Sea 2: The Ones that got away'. What really kills this film in the end though are the roaring sharks...come on people this isn't 'Godzilla takes a dive' this is a shark film and sharks don't roar...they bite...and so does this film.

It's hard to believe that the first "Shark Attack" movie was popular enough to justify making this sequel. It's also hard to believe that this sequel was popular enough to justify making a part 3! Anyway, it's nice to see a Nu Image movie filmed in South Africa that's actually set in South Africa (though the credits reveal some of the movie was filmed in Bulgaria.) And a few shots look fairly slick, though there are also some real cheap-looking moments, not just because the movie is filled with an ample amount of stock footage. The movie also rips off several elements from the original "Jaws" movie, even recreating a famous moment using the zoom lens of the camera! But the biggest problem with the movie is that it isn't very exciting or involving. There is a curious casual feeling to much of the movie, much of this coming from the fact the movie runs way too slow for its own good.
Mutated Great White sharks are gobbling up sea divers and surfers off the coast of South Africa, more than a nod to Jaws, it even manages to squeeze in some of the latter's famous music. It's many years since I watched Shark Attack (1999) and I remember nothing about it, going by this sequel that's probably no bad thing. This movie is set in Cape Town yet there's barely a genuine local accent to be heard, the place appears to be populated mainly by Americans, even the Mayor. We get a famous shark hunter from Australia but the actor's English accent keeps slipping out. For some reason sharks roar, sadly this was to become normal for countless other bad shark movies to come. A lot of stock footage is used, probably the best thing here, but some of the shark effects are laughably poor. However the attacks are quite vicious, the movie doesn't lack guts! Plenty of nice Cape Town scenery but the film drags in places, in particular during the predictable love story scenes. Bad shark movie but trust me there are far worse out there.
I love creature flicks - especially Shark movies ! I had already seen the original "Shark Attack" film and just had to see this follow up ! As direct to video movies go - it ain't that bad - some neat underwater photography and shark attack sequences - The acting is pretty lame but this is not exactly "Oscar" material !Some of the actual shark effects are pretty hilarious - they almost look inflatable and at one point the shark looks like a small "wind up" toy you would play with in the bath ! Overall - not bad for a night in with your mates and a few beers !!
