    While at summer camp, seven kids, Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, and T.K., come across seven Digivices and are transported to a strange "Digital World". In this new world they make friends with little creatures that call themselves "Digimon"-short for Digital Monsters-who claim to be the children's chosen partners. The seven "Digimon" prove to the kids that they are who they say they are when they digivolve-get much bigger, evolving into a different Digital Monster-and fight as a team to defeat a large, red beetle-like Digimon named Kuwagamon.

Meanwhile, Matt goes out to search for his brother against Gabumon's advice and gets hypothermia. Once the two boys meet up, they end up fighting each other until a Mojyamon attacks them. They defeat the Mojyamon and expel the Black Gear that was controlling him.

After they reunite, Mimi and Tentomon get lost in a labyrinth and are attacked by Centarumon. Izzy and Palmon finally find them and their Digimon battle and destroy Centarumon's Black Gear. After the battle, Leomon appears and attacks the children, but is driven back by the light of their Digivices.

The group goes back to Infinity Mountain for the final showdown with Devimon. There, Devimon absorbs many Black Gears and grows in size and power-turning the fight in his favor until Patamon digivolves into Angemon and destroys him. Angemon, having used up so much power, reverts into a Digi-egg.

They build a raft and leave File Island, but are soon swallowed up by Whamon who is still under the control of a Black Gear. After the gear is removed, Whamon takes the kids to where their Tags-the objects that the Crests are stored in-are hidden.

Greymon digivolves into SkullGreymon and loses control of himself-attacking the others who are unable to stop him. SkullGreymon eventually reverts back to Koromon and apologizes for his behavior.

When Matt finds his Crest of Friendship and Izzy finds his Crest of Knowledge, they are spotted and attacked by Tyrannomon. Tai and Agumon reappear just in time to defeat Tyrannomon.

    WarGreymon isn't doing so well and is about to be destroyed. Just in time, Whamon jumps out of the water and takes the blast ment for WarGreymon. Whamon destroys MetalSeadramon using his own "River of Power." Whamon is destroyed. It isn't long after that Puppetmon comes up with an evil plan to destroy the kids. He makes dolls of each of the kids and uses these to make them do what he wants them to. He then separates Matt and T.K. from everyone else. Kiwimon attacks the other kids while Puppetmon corners T.K. T.K. realizes what the dolls are used for and tricks Puppetmon and destroys the dolls. The Digimon easily defeat Kiwimon and Puppetmon says that no matter what it takes he will get revenge on T.K. Matt thinks that T.K. no longer needs him around, so he goes off somewhere by himself.

LadyDevimon defeats Angewomon in their brutal brawl with a devastating roundhouse kick, but just as LadyDevimon is about to finish Angewomon off, AlturKabuterimon saves her, paving the path for a final confrontation with Piemon.
