A completely under-rated show. Now called "Shasta" for some reason - probably because the "McNasty" part was turning off too many people (like me). This show is every bit as funny as "The 70s Show" and "Futurama". I always find myself laughing out loud at something. I really hope it gets renewed for another year. Anyone who likes to laugh owes it to themself to watch this show at least once. The addition of Vern as a major character is great. He is a complete riot. Jake Busey is stellar every show too - as is the entire cast.
Six o'clock is the one time that no phone in our whole town rings. Everyone is watching Shasta. Why not? It is cool, hip and trendy. Fresh, new and innovating. Just about everyone finds something to their liking in this extremely funny series. We in South Africa support it. Do you?
I saw the second Vern Troyer guest episode (Oct 99) of Shasta McNasty and my friends and I all loved it. I didn't know this guy can act really well!! -(And, no, I didn't make it a priority to see Austin Powers 2). Troyer's character is just great. (I don't even watch sitcoms! But this was just great, so maybe I ought to be more open-minded.) This is the episode that opens with Troyer as a buddy of the regular cast characters, and they come across him working as a crab-cracker at a crabhouse (he gets on the table, slips a plastic bag over foot, and smashes crab claw for customer). As caring friends, they are aghast, and tell him that they feel he deserves more dignity than that! Then there's some stage talent competition as the informal entertainment at this restaurant, which Troyer and his friend jump in to improvise and win - which starts a fight with someone who's jealous... Troyer's character beams him beautifully well, and they all realize that a new career as boxer is begun... Troyer's character loves the idea... soon they are all taking bets, there's ring-girl humor from both male and female perspectives, etc... they search for contenders, which brings more than they bargain for. Troyer's character learns to work out the wrong way, and the right way (both with a number of twists on traditional methods that are hysterically funny). The whole 1/2 hour was just a scream, and at the same time VERY human, very practical straight-shootin' earthy humor, dealing with little people, man-woman, etc. life issues universal to everyone, while keeping you laughing and riveted on the sitcom level. Included great site-gag spoofs on many well-known films (rocky, pulp fiction, etc.).....--- I sure hope this is rebroadcast! ......(& if anyone knows if/when, please email ).
Shasta McNasty was a great show when it first began, because it was willing to be brutally politically correct, and not follow the traditional mainstream attitude that their storylines must be cliche. They did things that were so stupid, but funny that it was fantastic, but in recent episodes, it is as though they are bowing to pressure, and trying to become a more mainstream sitcom, by employing standard storylines. Let's hope they come to there senses and go back to the craziness of the first half of the season. We don't need another friends, but we always need a Shasta McNasty.
The best new show of the season, "Shasta Mc Nasty" may very well be one of the funniest sitcoms of recent years. I've always been a fan of Jake Busey and I think he has finally found his vehicle with this outrageous, undefinable instant classic, and the other cast members are equally fantastic.
Avoid this show at all costs if you are not looking for an over the top, irreverent romp that packs more laughs per minute than the best of the Marx Brothers' films, a comedy team which the Shasta boys resemble quite a bit.
I urge people to watch and support this show before it is too late, as I fear this film may be too outrageous and ahead of its time to survive on Network TV.
