Bye-Bye Souirty

One year after seeing "Adieu Forain" at the Paris Film Festival, I am not surprised to see that the film has not even received five votes. It's been shown at more than five film festivals. But this slow paced film addresses a very small audience, namely Moroccan immigrants, and is frankly of little interest to anyone else. Though its main theme is the pros and cons of emigrating from, or staying in Morocco, the film also touches on prejudices against gay men and all women in Moroccan towns, as well as the rule of a few greedy and unsavory characters over the overwhelmingly poor and desperate majority. None of these themes is ground breaking, and the film does little to render them appealing. The bleak locations, and shallow development of the film's character don't help either. The movie really hasn't much to offer most people.
