I've heard people dissing this movie, but I don't agree. I loved this movie as a child, and even now (I'm 19) I still enjoy it. Sure, the whole gang isn't there, but that's fine. I was never a hardcore fan of the series, but this movie is fabulous. The "little ghouls" are adorable and lots of fun. Matches, the "pet" dragon of the boarding school, is really great, and the friendship he develops with Scrappy is nice to see. The beginning to the movie is actually really funny, and the exercise scene (don't ask, you'll just have to see it yourself!) that follows soon after always puts a smile on my face. It all starts as a misunderstanding that results in Shaggy and Scooby meeting monsters they (gasp!) aren't afraid of... and, of course, some new villains that *are* quite scary. All in all, this is a really entertaining watch. I love it, and gave it an 8 out of 10.

It was a joy to see Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy true to character. Shaggy's clothes--and the Mystery Machine--appear as they premiered in "The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo" (1985-1986), providing continuity. Glenn Leopold weaves a multi-character story with traditional Hanna-Barbera charm. I think it would have made more sense to include Daphne, but it still lives up to Scooby-Doo cannon established from 1969 to the late 1980s. A must-see for true fans!

I saw this TV movie a few times when I was a kid and, from what I remembered, it was a pretty good movie (where Scooby Doo, Shaggy and Scrappy Doo visits a haunted school and attempts to save its kidnapped students) that captures the some of the humor and spirit of the original cartoon series.

The animation was bright and the plot was actually somewhat intriguing, making you eager to know that the events unfold. Although Fred, Daphne and Velma were absent from the movie, Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy did deliver some great fun and laugh-out-loud comedy. After the conventional theme of villains disguised as ghouls and goblins in the series, it was interesting and noteworthy to see this movie contain real ghostly creatures and real witches as villains, such as the villainess Witch Revolta.

There are corny moments here and there, but this is a cartoon and is still better than some of the more contemporary cartoon counterparts of the 2000s and beyond.

What made me laugh more and more is that little pis$ed off dragon. It made the movie as far as I'm concerned. The movie took a while to get going, but it grew on me......but I'm easily entertained. In the realm of kids movies, I'd probably give it a 6/10. Definitely enjoyable.

It is not perfect and it is not the best Scooby Doo movie, in my opinion that's Witch's Ghost, but Ghoul's School is I think better than people say it is. I admit I hated this movie when I first saw it as I thought it was corny and lame and the fact that I was going through a Scrappy-hating phase probably didn't help either. I watched it again, and like with Reluctant Werewolf which I also hated at first, I am glad I gave it a chance.

It has its flaws mind. The pacing is draggy in spots, Scrappy while not as contemptible as he can be is still rather annoying and I really could have done without Scrappy's rap, then again I have a dislike of rap in general so maybe I'm biased.

That said, the animation is not too bad really, there are some lush backgrounds and a majority of the characters are well drawn. The incidental music is decent, and the jokes, script and puns are funny, perhaps corny in parts but the original show wasn't always sophisticated humour either and that worked. The story is a departure from usual Scooby Doo fare but it does hold interest, and has a lot of entertaining parts especially the party with the ghoul girls' parents, the match between the girls and the boys and any scene with the villainess of the piece Revolta.

And I liked the characters, Scrappy you either love or hate, but Scooby and Shaggy are delightful as always and their antics are just as wildly funny as before. The pet dragon is a very nice addition, and almost makes the movie, and I liked the ghoul girls too, Sebella is my favourite as she is quite beautiful and has this seductive element to her. Revolta who looks as awful as she sounds is an intriguing villainess, her motives aren't exactly original, but she does have some great lines, a sinister presence and a chilling voice. Finally the voice acting is well done, especially Don Messick and Casey Kasem who never fail to bring a smile to my face as Scooby and Shaggy.

So overall, it isn't brilliant, but it's better than people give credit for. 7/10 Bethany Cox

Parental Warning: This film contains scenes of Scrappy-Doo.

It should be rated XXX just for that, shouldn't it? But, honestly, this was one of the "easing off of Scrappy" films, so, like in the Werewolf one, he isn't nearly as annoying as he is in his involvement with the rest of the franchise.

Really the bad taste that comes in your mouth is the premise. Shaggy and Scooby go to an all girls school to become gym teachers.

First, that sounds like a teenage sex comedy. Second,how on earth did Shaggey get a job as a PE teacher? What does that say about the school that hired him? Gym teachers like him are the reason that American Education has taken a nose dive and we have a problem with obesity in this country.

Anyway, all jokes aside, it's still a girls school, but the girls are Ghouls and their parents come...hilarity ensues...despite the premise.

It's actually not that bad and has better moments than the reluctant Werewolf, which is in the same era of Scooby Movies and really oddly made all things considered.

Ghoul School feels better, it looks better, and it has better laughs...despite Scrappy's involvement.

The whole thing's pretty simple: Scooby-Doo, Scrappy and Shaggy go to be gym instructors in a girl's school. What they don't know is that in this particular school, the students are all monsters (don't worry - they're good monsters). There's a werewolf, a vampire, a ghost, a Frankenstein and a mummy. To crown everything, the headmistress (who's also the mummy's mother) has a pet dragon who prefers to breathe fire at Scooby-Doo. Then, while they're all out on an excursion to a swamp, an evil witch kidnaps the girls, and Scooby, Scrappy, Shaggy and the pet dragon have to go save them...if they can.

I don't think that I've seen most of the Scooby-Doo cartoons - and I deliberately avoided the 2002 movie - but "Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School" wasn't bad. It's really something now that I realize that "Mary Poppins" matriarch Glynis Johns did the voice of headmistress Ms. Grimwood.

"Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School" would come of as one of the lame TV movies they make nowadays, but due to fantastic voice-acting, catchy characters, and an unorthodox(if not expectable) plot{volleyball game, WTF?] this becomes a movie for fans of the original SD series, Casey Casem fans, or for the newer 'What's new, Scooby Doo?' fans to see what it's elder counterparts were like. The drawbacks are continual graphic hiccups and outtakes they never edited out, Lack of sense in few places(Only five girls in a private school?, and lame villain(Mistress Revolta). Also, for a movie based on three people who absolutely fear monsters, they seem to take a liking to the girls in the film. Also, fan films on the website YouTube prove that the girls in the film and the film itself are cult classics.

I was something of a Scooby Doo fan when I was younger, and seeing this movie recently brought back some good childhood memories. This movie and "Scooby Doo and the reluctant werewolf" were my favourite animated movies when I was a little kid. Now , of course I look at it differently , but I still have got a soft spot for it in my heart.

This was made after the "13 Ghosts" series, so Fred, Velma and Daphne are not in it. Shaggy wears a red shirt and blue pants and he has a red Mystery Machine. This might be a problem for the hardcore fans , but not for me. The story reminds me kind of a mix between "Police academy" and "The Addams family" . It's quite refreshing to see Scooby,Shaggy and Scrappy with REAL monsters , not some costumed villains. Matches, the "pet" dragon of the boarding school, is really great . The other characters are also catchy and very likable . Our heroes at first are scared of the girls, but later Shaggy and Scooby actually warm up to the girls.

This movie lacks sense sometimes - private school with only five girls ,the boys don't seem to notice or mind that girls are ghouls , during the volleyball match the players break all the rules. Still , the movie is charming , the humour is nice , characters likable and the voice-acting is fantastic.

I give it 5/10.

This film is very cool. However, this movie was actually aired as part of the "Hanna-Barbera Superstar" 1987-1989 TV series which featured TV movies starring various Hanna-Barbera characters (a notable example is "The Good, The Bad, and the Huckleberry Hound") and "Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School" is one of them! It isn't like "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" or "What's New Scooby-Doo," but it is more like the 70s and 80s TV series. It is quite entertaining, despite some of the lame jokes and puns. But the only main problem with this film is that SCRAPPY-DOO is in it! However, he is not that annoying in this film. The ghoul girls are also neat, from Sibella (the daughter of Count Dracula; her catchphrase is "Fangtastic") to Winnie the Werewolf (her father looks a lot like the Van Heisling werewolf!) Plus, since this was made after the "13 Ghosts" series, Shaggy wears a red shirt and blue pants and he has a red Mystery Machine, and Fred, Velma and Daphne are not in it. But I find that a bit OK. Plus, the evil witch Revolta is AWESOME!!! Overall, I recommend it to those who like Scooby-Doo, but not to the anti-Scrappy people!

I do love Socoby-Doo, but this one doesn't hit the feels like the rest of the series, it does feel like a second draft switched into a film that's stitched together primarily on other Scooby Resources. For example, they seem to take Scooby and Shaggy differently, this has been done before, but goes to the extreme.

I do like the different clothing, I do enjoy the atmosphere, although abit chaotic given all the villains and voice acting work. I feel it's second rate due to too many ideas, too many different storylines that I don't think works for Scooby. Take, "Camp Scare" or "Zombie Island" for example, both were simple and easy to follow but had good characterisation, good scripts, and decent pacing. This has some of these things.

The little witches are fun and Entertaining, if serviceable. But the main-point would be that the characters aren't well developed as they seem to change the rules to suit a different narrative, and it doesn't work fully for me. Due to the voice acting being screechy, and the complete change up for Scooby and Shaggy, and Scrappy.

But I feel with great costume designs, decent cinematography for it's time, everything seems serviceable but also fun and cooly made.

I'd give this a 6 out of 10 Because the Movie was Fun and unique, but missed the core functions that made Scooby-Doo brilliant.

I watched 3 SD movies as a kid. "Zombie Island," "Witch's Ghost," and this.

I'm gonna say it: "Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School" is not as good as you remember. It's a LONG movie, it does the same joke over 5 times in its runtime (and DEAR GOD the puns! They are actually painful.), and it's like episodes of a show that never happened were all slapped together into one long viewing. And it has Scrappy. 😕

The ghoul designs are still great, though, so I'll defend them and the Liza Minnelli knockoff. I don't know why I was so enamored with it as a kid.

It's TEDIOUS!

My older sister and I grew up with this movie I love it. I've seen it now and I admit it's bit lame but I love it. I also love the Scooby Doo movie where Shaggy turns into a wolf. If you grew up watching these movies you just have to love them.

This one takes me back. Watching it now with my little cousin I can relax and enjoy it too. There's no real life lessons expect seeing how much little girls love their dads and Shaggy and Scooby accepting the girls just like any other girls. The military school was a nice comparison but still had health rivalry and compassion between the two schools. The voice talents were absolutely amazing! I can see how they became so iconic. It was nice to get a young kid into the old Scooby Doo with nothing to worry about other than explaining how there was no cell phones and internet. She really liked the movie and the old 70's show more the the modern ones. Hopefully the oldies will make a come back and just stay immortalized.

Overall sweet & simple Scooby Doo 6/10. Nothing wrong with it.

The Ghoul School was the movie I grew up w/ so it holds meaning to me more then the others...my brother & I always liked the van Shaggy, Scooby & Scrappy were driving during the opening credits w/ the workout equipment in the back. I thought this film was funny w/ pretty good characters throughout & of course Matches who is a pet, little fire-breathing green dragon. It also had a good, slightly creepy feel to it that I also identify w/ in other 80's cartoons. The private boys school next door to the ghoul school was funny & seemed like a perfect scenario for our Scooby trio...good beginning & good ending. Loved it.

I have no idea why people hate this movie so much. It's better than any of their adventures that I've ever seen, and I do enjoy seeing Scooby & Shaggy dealing with real creatures. The animation here is, as is traditional, very good. The story is great. The chemistry between the two stars is, as always, spot-on. And did I mention the story is great? Featuring an evil witch and a boarding school filled with young girl ghouls, the conflict is refreshing in that it doesn't follow the traditional Shag & Scoob formula. Also, it's nice to have a little break from Daphne, whom I have always found a little obnoxious (it's okay-- Sarah Michelle Gellar was worse). But the point is, this is a great Doo gang movie. I only wish my copy were still intact.

I picked this up for $5 at Wal-mart, expecting another fun full-length Scooby feature in the vein of "Camp Scare" or "Witch's Ghost." Wrong.

There are so many things that make this film painful to watch. First of all, it doesn't even make sense. Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy are headed to teach P.E. (huh?) to an all-girls school (huh?) where the students are also the daughters of the world's scariest monsters (huh?) who are REAL monsters, not men in masks (huh?) as they're gearing up for a volleyball tournament with boys from a local military school (huh?) outside their creepy mansion.

Secondly...there's no Mystery, Inc., no Mystery van and...NO MYSTERY. Shaggy and Scooby are great characters, but the movie feels empty and foreign without the rest of the gang.

Thirdly...THE CHARACTERS!! Okay some people think Scrappy is bad, but he's actually a likable character compared to the rest. Revolta is simply fugly, and a weak villain at that. The monsters are ridiculous. And the girls...they might just be the most annoying cartoon characters I've seen in a long time. The phantom daughter is screechy and squealy, the werewolf's daughter sounds constipated and howls constantly, Frankenstein's daughter sounds like they were trying to make fun of mentally handicapped people and walks around calling her dad "dada" even though she looks at least a teenager. The only one that was semi-cute was the mummy's daughter, but her voice was still a bit irritating. Miss Grimwood was the only one with a pleasant voice, and I thought the little dragon/dog was pretty cute.

Possibly the WORST thing about this movie was the dialogue. There's literally a really REALLY bad pun every 30 seconds. They start out as a bit eye-rolling, but it gets cringe-worthy and, about 30 minutes into it, downright torturous. There's one in about every other line, and some of them are recycled multiple times throughout the film. (Just count how many times Dracula's daughter says "Fang-tastic" for starters) Finally...there's no real plot. It's incredibly boring and at 1 hr. 33 minutes it lasts longer than some non-children's movies, which makes it even more drawn out and lame.

Seriously, avoid this at all costs. It doesn't feel like a Scooby Doo movie...at best, it feels like a really bad spin off. Like if Luna and Neville from Harry Potter moved to America and started bakery in New York City. That's about how this film fits in with traditional Scooby repertoire. Don't waste your time and, especially, your money!!

If you're looking for a good Scooby Doo movie to wet your appetite, then this one's for you! Shaggy, Scooby, and even Scrappy go to a Grimwood School for Ghouls where they are made the official coaches so that the ghoul girls can square off in a volleyball game against the Calloway Military School for boys. Elsewhere is the evil witch Revolta, who has plans of her own to kidnap to ghoul girls and put them under her control. Later on, the Calloway boys show some loyalty and respect for the ghoul girls when they rescue them from Revolta's clutches. Overall, this movie's pretty good, and probably the main reason I watch this movie is Cybella. She's HOT! Watch this movie! You won't be sorry! It's fangtastic!

Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (1988)

Good feature has Scooby, Scrappy and Shaggy going to a "school" that is attended by famous monster's children. At this female school they play an annual volleyball game against a military academy and Shaggy has been hired to make them winners. The first sixty-minutes of this feature are absolutely delightful with all sorts of laughs but sadly it really runs out of gas and barely makes it to the end. At 90-minutes it just runs way too long and the second portion of the film has a fairly weak story involving someone at the school trying to take it over with a new kind of evil. I thought the final thirty-minutes really dragged in spots and nearly ruined the entire film but the first part is just so good that horror fans should really enjoy it. I thought some of the best moments involved the monster children and the nice homages to previous movies. We get Count Dracula's daughter, a mummy, a werewolf and Frankenstein's daughter who is made up to look like the Bride and of course she's named Elsa (Lancaster from the 1935 film). We also get some pretty good jokes once the parents show up and of course they're enough to scare Shaggy and Scooby. Fans of the TV show should really enjoy this and monster fans will also have a good time with the creatures on hand.

Personally speaking I love Ghoul School, it's not as good as Reluctant Werewolf or Boo Brothers (my personal favourite) but I enjoy it a lot more than Scooby Doo goes Hollywood. I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid I only stopped watching it so I could prevent the video from completely wearing out.

I'm not really a fan of the newer movies like witches ghost or zombie island, it's not that I think their bad I just prefer the cell animation that I watched when I was growing up.

Any kid who loves Scooby Doo will probably enjoy watching this film, there are some cheesy puns in it but I don't think that will bother them.

Eesh! What is this supposed to be? Shaggy and Scooby's solo outings usually make for good movies. But Ghoul School comes nowhere near the surprisingly good Boo Brothers or Reluctant Werewolf and is so far behind modern Scooby Doo animation. It really is the cheapest, shoddiest Scooby effort I've ever seen.

There isn't even a mystery, thus explaining the lack of the Mystery Machine (an ugly red van is the replacement). So why on earth they bothered to make this a Scooby Doo movie is puzzling if they weren't deliberately exploiting a popular character.

It's just all wrong! Shaggy gets a job in an all-girl (actually Ghoul) school teaching Phys. Ed. I'm sorry but when did Shaggy become a qualified Gym Teacher? There's some pointless story involving a volleyball competition with a Military School next door that isn't good enough to distract from the bore and then after that some old hag called Revolta turns up and turns them all into zombies. Uh...yeah.

Shaggy obviously saves the day but by this point I had dozed off. It bored me to sleep!

The 1.33:1 full frame picture shows how cruddy the animation is and the sound is plain old mono. Aside from the usual 'how to draw' extras this DVD also features a trailer that cheekily uses lots of footage of modern Scooby animation and mixes it with Ghoul School to make it look new. I wasn't fooled.

Don't buy this. Rent it for the kids if there is really nothing else.
