Literally!
This exciting and explosive three-part police thriller begins with a security guard arriving home and pouring himself a glass of sherry when suddenly, everything around him explodes! Glass shatters all over the place, furniture is destroyed and all because of several masked men carrying shotguns. This would have been the perfect pre-credits teaser for a certain crime series about a duo called Regan & Carter.
Not so long after, a Pakistani man is arrested at an airport for possession of drugs. A mysterious caller notified the Met about him which led to his arrest. Assigned to the case are detectives John Miller and Jim Collis who interrogate the suspect and their investigations involve night time surveillance, following accountants and lawyers and chasing up leads. In the meantime, a gangster called George Payne is residing in Spain, organizing secret business and property deals and planning the crime of the century.
As this was written by Ian Kennedy Martin, a veteran of gritty, realistic and impeccably researched crime dramas, this has all the hallmarks of a gripping Euston Films thriller - dangerous villains, salty dialogue, wry humour, violent situations, cops tailing leads and narrowly avoiding being killed and a pulsating climax at a warehouse where our heroes take desperate measures to crack the case. A pity this wasn't followed up with a regular weekly series.. In its wake though, we had other crime/action/buddy-buddy thriller shows like the underrated Saracen, The Paradise Club, Spender, 99-1, Circles Of Deceit and Thief Takers which was more the direction a series of The Fourth Floor could have taken.
