James's gun holds only one round, but he fires twice.
In the beginning of the movie, Tripp mentions that James is a junior. At the end, the head of the English department says that he is a sophomore.
After Tripp gets his car jumped on, there is a visible dent in the hood which disappears in the following scene when he is pulling up to the auditorium to recover Leer's backpack.
When Tripp is looking around James' room, he opens a books by Sherwood Anderson. In the next shot, the book is closed and Tripp opens it again.
During Grady's drive away from campus early in the film, and the drive back with James following the chancellor's party, the campus scenes visible through the car windows indicate Grady is driving on several roads simultaneously.
Grady parks next to the fire hydrant and it wobbles when his door hits it.
In the scene where Trip's manuscript goes blows away into the river, he later states that he had lost it in the Monongahela River; however, the scene is shot outside of the Rochester PA bowling alley which is located along side the Ohio River, which is the result of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers that form at the Point in Pittsburgh PA.
The story takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - yet there are no inspection stickers on the windshields nor emissions stickers.
