This animated short film is a great example of Jan Lenica's cut-out stop-motion animation-a technique that offered an experimental and budget-friendly way to depict even surreal subjects. Here, the surreal premise involves a man minding his own business who is suddenly harassed by a giant letter "A," prompting him to try a variety of extraordinary methods to get rid of it. The visuals reflect Lenica's background in both architecture and poster design-the architectural influence is especially evident in the abundant straight lines and symmetrical shapes. The story leans into dark comedy, and overall, it feels like a western-infused, more polished counterpart to the works of fellow animator Yoji Kuri from the same era.
